    2K18: Proposed Layup Packages

***Please allow access to ALL packages from ALL positions through ALL game modes***

Isaiah Thomas: Currently, due to his size, it is very hard to finish with Zeke the way that he finishes IRL. He deserves a layup package that suits his finishing style.
Video: Isaiah Thomas - Fantastic Finisher 15/16 - YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBmPElVxFhc

Tony Parker: Yes, there is currently a TP package in the game but it needs a slight addition. The focus should be shooting off of the “wrong” foot. TP shoots many of his layups off of the off (same) foot as the shooting hand. Defending this is difficult IRL and it has a place in the game.
Video: Tony Parker: 1-2 Extended Layup - YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2thWy-9aqng

Allen Iverson: Please take time out to honor this Georgetown Legend and his ability to finish amongst the trees. A focus here should be HIGH layups off of the corners of the backboard. Iverson routinely put the ball in places no shot blocker could reach.
Video: Allen Iverson: Top 10 Career Plays - YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2REkZG-dhHc

Giannis Antetokounmpo: Much like the Harden package, Freak needs a lot of step-throughs before the actually release. If there is a way to implement his long strides to simulate how far he actually starts his gather, it would be greatly appreciated
Video: Giannis Antetokounmpo - Freakish Finisher - YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xtGS1SWkWw

Unathletic Guard: For unathletic guards, I have always given them the Basic Bigman Layup package. From this package, we would like to see low elevation but solid form and high release point.
Video: John Stockton signature move - YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vq3nbRZgEWU

Two-Footed Finish (For Bigs): Currently, there isn’t an unathletic, two footed layup package for bigs. (Think Big Baby or Perk). Below are a few finish videos showing the type of layups needed for this package.

Glen Davis Layup vs Raptors Zone Defence - YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GT8XMCr8bqo
George Gervin: Never in the history of the NBA has a type of layup been associated with one player the way the finger roll has been associated with Gervin. Long overdue.
*If you have to change the name because of rights to HIS name, please do so. Don’t let THAT deter you from implementing the package* (Ice, Stone Cold, Freezer, Arctic)
Video: George Gervin: A.K.A. "The Iceman" Mixtape - YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5EjHZJL6Jj8

George Mikan: Out of historical respect, throw this one in here for a few laughs. It should essentially be a short range hook-type shot off of the glass.
Video: Basketball Workout: Mikan Layup Drill - YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZCy9xkSO3E

Magic Johnson: While not as athletic as the high flyers of the old-school players, he had a unique and flashy way that he finished around the bucket. Much like the Rondo package, please include many ball-fakes in the layup animations.

Scottie Pippen: Much like Greek, he uses long strides to take off from further distances than most players. He also uses many finger roll type of finishes.

Reverse Layups: Please make sure that each layup package has it’s own set of reverse finishes that are in line with the athletic ability of the package. Currently, the big man package is allowed to do wildly athletic reverse layup packages in 2K17.

Classic Layup Packages: There have been a number of layup packages that were taken away from the users over the years. Many probably due to rights issues, but it would be greatly appreciated if those layup packages were returned under new names. There were a lot of great animations that were taken from us.

    For Example:

    Nash: O’Canada
    Julius Erving: Medical
    Young Tony Parker: Young Frenchman

Great post..definitely agree with IT and AI; it's difficult to play just like them at times because of how easy some layups are to block. Unless you're doing a whole bunch of euro steps or spins but I know for a fact AI just contorted his body and accepted contact.

Also, I watch Embiid every game...guys like him, Cousins, KAT, etc...are all nimble enough to do guard-like layups albeit slower and more drawn out.
I don't wanna be Jordan, I don't wanna be Bird or Isiah, I don't wanna be any of those guys.
I want to look in the mirror and say I did it my way.

I had a great time with layups in 2k11. The memories are back and oh how sweet they are 😢

          Great research and proposal here!

            Re: 2K18: Proposed Layup Packages

Honestly I think layups need to be broken down like dunks into layup types being addable to a player. So many guys utilize different finishes using a single package doesn't cut it anymore. The rondo package would have to be equiped to half the league now just so they utilize the pass fake or inside hand layup animation and so on

                Re: 2K18: Proposed Layup Packages

I think 2K would benefit from a "contact layup" rating. They already have contact dunk, so why not add that? Also the game's controls are very iffy when it comes to trying to get contact layups to drop or even get the animation. Most people just drive to the basket and press x and pray they get a good animation to finish.

I'd hope to see some signature Derrick Rose layup packages (windmill scoop).

The animation might be in the game, but I've never seen it activated in game.

You are the man for this godly post! I've been meaning to talk about this for some time now and we definitely need to bring it back to 2k 10 and 11 where we had such a variety of layup packages to choose from. Great overall post!

                      2K18: Proposed Layup Packages

To add to this, floaters/runners and should be a separate set of packages from layups. Currently animations like Tony Parker's two footed tear drop can only be used if you also use all of his other layup animations.

Best case scenario would be if you could select sets of animations for driving layups, standing layups, floaters/runners, euro steps, spin layups, and hop steps.

yes this is another one they should focus on and make the lay ups faster as its so easy to be block when your a small guy. i really do think that 2k needs to remove a lot of animation that is unnecessary to make this game more fluid and just add a basic manoeuvres.

                          Great thread DC!

Signature style drew me to this series, I want to see them recapture that magic.

I don't know WHY Floaters are no longer separate animations. We used to be able to select the Floater Animations for each player, then they took them out.

Along with this, I always felt 2K was hindering itself with wanting to group so many things together for no reason.
