Introduction

Hey again! My name is KSWgrad2012. After months away from Operation Sports, I have decided to make my return. I'm excited for this new series, a TeamBuilder for the first time. The Wichita State Shockers are a program I've always wanted to resurrect, after first hearing about the school in 2013 during the NCAA Men's Final Four. I loved the mascot, plain & simple. The Shockers haven't sponsored football since 1986, and after 30 years, the sport is set to return to campus. We embark on a journey to bring championships to the Sunflower State. Join me.

Wichita State votes to revive football
After 30 years, Shocker football will return in 2016

It's been rumored for years that Wichita State University was considering reviving its football program. The program shut down in 1986 after years of losing money, losing football games, and the tragic 1970 plane crash that killed 31 people. The WSU Board of Regents announced today that they have concluded a year-long study that investigated the long-term feasibility of Shocker football, and the results were promising. The school announced that they will revive football in time for the 2016 football season, and they will compete at the highest level of college football, the FBS. NCAA rules require the school compete as an Independent for two years unless they can find a conference to call home. Wichita State will have two years from now to construct the program, and the first step will be finding a head coach.

John Bardo (WSU President): "I am excited for the return of Wichita State football. This is a day thirty years in the making, and we are excited to see what will come of this."

There is hoopla on the WSU campus today as the students celebrate this news. The Wichita Eagle will continue to report on this story in the coming days.

D-2 mastermind set to bring his talents to FBS

The Wichita State Shockers have announced the hiring of a new head football coach, a month after the school announced it would resurrect its football program. Kaelyn Willingham, originating from D-2 Thomas More College in Ohio, will be introduced at a press conference this afternoon. His pedigree reigns supreme, having descended from a huge coaching tree & enjoying success at numerous small programs. Willingham is known as an offensive wizard, and his high-octane Spread Option offenses have devastated D-2 college football defenses for years. After having won so much at the Division 2 level, Willingham felt the need for a bigger challenge.

Kaelyn Willingham: "I'm proud of what I have accomplished here at Thomas More, but it's time to move on. Wichita State was the only D-1 school to approach me with a job offer, and when I heard the offer I was intrigued. The opportunity to build a program from scratch at the FBS level is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I could not pass it by."

Willingham's first task will be to construct a roster that can win. And it won't be easy in the heart of the Midwest. Kansas produced just three recruits rated 4-stars or higher, and all of them will be leaving the state for college. Wichita State will need to establish pipelines, and they'd be best to start with the state of Texas. Willingham will also need to hire a coaching staff that can make something out of nothing. It will be interesting to watch this unfold.

Renovations set to begin at Cessna Stadium
45-year-old stadium to receive expanded seating, new amenities

Step One of the process of reviving Wichita State football was hiring a head coach. The school did that just recently with Kaelyn Willingham. Step Two will be to begin renovations on the old Cessna Stadium, which is currently used by the WSU track & field team. In its current form, the stadium seats 31,500 people, but only occupies 20,000 readily. Renovations will return is usable occupancy to the original 31,500, with the ability to expand to 40,000 if needed. There will also be a remodeling of the concession stands, restrooms, luxury suites and locker rooms. The natural grass will also be replaced with turf. The circular track will remain in place for track & field events. WSU president John Bardo expects the renovation project to last through early 2016.

Bardo: "We expect this to be a long-term project. We hope to have it completed by the start of Spring practice in 2016, just in time for our first football season."

The school raised the funds needed for the renovations through a series of private fundraisers and alumni donations. The project is expected to cost about $60 million. Shocker football is on track to return in 2016, and Cessna Stadium should be ready by then.

News & Notes:


**This section will be for news & information that I felt didn't deserve an in-depth report. This will be frequent in this dynasty in an effort to save time.


-First off, credit as always goes to the ones who make this place fun. Cheese, Hellisan, RoundingThird, LopaKa, DeeGeezy, gsutiger, djp73. And many others, I'm sure.

-Second, I'm really excited to get this off & running. This is the first time I've even USED TeamBuilder, let alone run a dynasty with a created team. I've thought about it for a while, and it was finally time.

-Third, it's great to get out of the Southeast United States. I've gotten comfortable in that part of the world with these 'chises, but I was ready for a new challenge. We move to the Great Plains, where the recruits are sparse and the battles are fierce. We're up against Big 12 teams, Big Ten teams, Mountain West teams, etc. I'm excited to start recruiting in a new part of the country for me. Plus, being in Kansas, I can finally play SNOW FOOTBALL.

-Lastly, Coach Willingham has rounded out his coaching staff, hiring OC Jarvis Gray and DC Eric Johnson. Both coordinators were on Willingham's staff at Thomas More College.

HISTORIC: Four programs announce drop to FCS
Cite lack of success as primary reason

In an unprecedented move, four universities today announced that they will end their affiliation with the Football Bowl Subdivision and drop down to the Football Championship Subdivision after this season. The schools are the University of Idaho, New Mexico State University, University of Massachusetts-Amherst and Georgia State University. All four schools have struggled mightily in recent years to support their football programs at the FBS level. Idaho & New Mexico State were hit hard after the collapse of the now-defunct Western Athletic Conference (WAC), and have failed to find new conference homes to this point. With the nearby Mountain West Conference uninterested in extending either school an invitation, dropping down seems like their only option. UMass & Georgia State are recent additions to the FBS, and have failed in every way to gain traction. With these moves, the MAC and Sun Belt are the only conferences affected.

News & Notes:


-North Dakota State has announced that, after years of speculation, they will JUMP to the Football Bowl Subdivision. After years of dominating the FCS ranks, the school is looking for new challenges, I suppose. With no one interested in adding the juggernaut to their conference, the school will compete as an FBS Independent.

-Hawaii has also announced that will pursue independence after terminating their deal with the Mountain West. Travel costs were a primary concern, and neither side was able to work out a deal.

-After learning that Georgia State planned to demote themselves to FCS, the Sun Belt Conference decided to do a little expanding. The SBC agreed to add Appalachian State and Georgia Southern to their ranks for the 2016 season. The move puts the conference at 8 members strong.

Mountain West expands after losing Hawaii
Conference adds Wichita State, UTEP, Tulsa

After losing a member over a month ago, the Mountain West Conference dropped to just 11 members, putting its conference championship game in jeopardy. The league resolved that matter today with the announcement of not one, but THREE new additions. The MWC hopes that expanding to 14 will secure their future. The league first reached a deal with the UTEP Miners, who have been looking to get out of Conference USA for years. The move puts the Mountain West back in the state of Texas, and also eases UTEP's travel burdens & reestablishes old rivalries. Looking to expand their footprint further, the league then reached an agreement with Wichita State, who will be restarting football in 2016. This move helps MWC basketball, as the Shockers have been one of the top mid-major programs of the past several years (including a Final Four run in 2013 and a #1 tourney seed in 2014). Looking to add a travel partner for Wichita State, the league made another surprise move in plucking away the Tulsa Golden Hurricane from the American Athletic Conference. Tulsa was a surprise move as the AAC appears to be stable for now. But with many schools in that conference angling for a move to the Big 12, Tulsa may have felt vulnerable.

Craig Thompson (MWC Commissioner): "We're excited for these new additions. These schools will make our conference better, and more secure in the long run."

The moves are set to take effect next year. With the expansion to 14, the league may see a realignment of its divisions. It has been reported that Boise State is interested in moving to the West Division for recruiting purposes.

No problem man! I need to check out your Grambling State 'chise!

Yeah, I'm looking forward to this build-up. Never played in the Mountain West before, so that should be fun. It takes me out of my comfort zone as I'm used to recruiting in the Deep South. I searched for all recruits in the state of Kansas, there were 12! We'll definitely be recruiting the Midwest & West Coast a lot, which should be interesting.

Plus, I can finally look forward to snow football in December
