    Sinkerballer quirk?

    Johnny Cueto and Jake McGee both have this quirk so far, and neither throws a sinker.

    "Throws an extremely effective sinking fastball"

    I wonder if that is a bug or if that means their regular fastballs will induce more grounders?

    They both throw 2sfb I bet. Movement is similar.

      They both do, wonder if that is it. The three other pitchers I found with it all had sinkers though.

        This is because the 2 seam FB and the "Sinker" are the SAME pitch.

          Yeah, I think there can be some variances in grip or the angle of the hand/wrist at release that can cause some guys to throw a "sinker" and some to throw a "2-seam fastball". Traditional "sinker" guys usually rotate their wrist some so the palm of their hand turns out somewhat. Maybe some "2-seam" guys control it more with finger pressure and the depth that they grip the ball. But they are very, very similar.

          Some guys, like Corey Kluber have a 2 seamer with more horizontal movement, those guys work all over the strike zone with it. Some guys have more vertical movement, seems like those guys usually work down in the zone with it primarily (Trevor Cahill comes to mind initially, just since he was on the Cubs last year and I'm a Cubs fan). Then there are freaks of nature like Greg Maddux that could make the same pitch move in a variety of ways whenever he wanted, and still maintain perfect control.

          Somebody with more pitching experience would certainly be able to describe it better than I just did I'm sure....

            Re: Sinkerballer quirk?

            you can get a little more movement on the sinker vs the 2 seamer but they are basically the same pitch, like the forkball/splitter and changeup/palmball
            as for speed the sinker tops out at 95 mph and the 2 seamer at 97 mph
            break= advantage sinker
            velocity= advantage 2 seamer
            so 2 seam pitcher should definitely be eligible for the sinker quirk

            now for some pitchers, the Show has both sinker and 2 seam in their arsenal, most notably Zach Britton.
            If you can get the control on his slide piece up to 70, you get the knee buckler quirk too, thats just filthy. and Brittons already devastating as it is.

              pardon the double post please
              also, Andrew Millerand Chris Sale has the sinker and knee buckler quirk, and neither throws the sinker, just the 2 seamer.
              Wade Davis, Matt Harvey, Glen Perkins, Tanner Roark, Robert Osuna and David Price also have the sinker quirk despite not throwing a true sinker
              looks like this is quite common, and probably should be

                FYI I posted in the bug reporter and SDS replied that it was intentional due to the 2 seam FBs.

                  They gave Kershaw a sinker last year and took it away this year and gave the sinker to Kenley Jansen.
