Anybody get a feeling that 2K is switching game engines for 2K18 or 2K19

I feel like either 2K18 or 2K19, Visual Concepts are gonna make an engine switch. We've been talking about how everything feels like it's flatlined since 2K15 (when the animations seemed to repeat for 15, 16, and 17).

Even graphics-wise, some people feel 2K14 was amazing for next-gen and we peaked there.

Animations felt like they reached a limit in 2K15 where they didn't make fresh animations anymore, just added new ones on the same foundation.

This could end up being 2ks eventual downfall. It's a last gen game with shiny current gen graphics.

About 2k17? Not really; I'm sorry that offends you, but I live in hope that it gets better next time around. Thank you for taking an interest, but I'm not sure your post has any relation to the thread topic.

I don't think they are ever going to switch engines, I think they are just going to keep swapping portions out every year, its a Ship of Theseus kind of situation.

Maybe for ps5 and Xbox two Z, or whatever they'll call it.

The 'engine' is almost unrecognisable from the previous generation.

Madden has had like 3 different engines over the past 10 years...and there have been some big improvements in some places, and in other places, not so much...either way, its always felt like...Madden.

I feel like people look at an engine change as a complete rewrite of every tool and bit of logic in the game...and that its going to fix every issue they've ever had....its simply not the case.

Anyway, to answer the question: No...don't think we will get an engine overhaul until we near next gen.

2K is so tight lipped about any of their architecture that if and when they do change any of their engines, we won't know about it until a blog in the year that they implement it, ... maybe.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

Well most 2k threads you pretty much call for 2ks downfall anyway, so that's why I asked. You're a regular poster and usually it's "2k is trash". I don't see how you think the game is going to be better for you now.

Exactly. These are not "last gen graphics polished up" . There was a legitimate leap that we saw in NBA2k14

I've pointed out a lot of the flaws in this game, because I don't play any modes where I have access to a slider set that can alter the gaming experience. I do think 2k17 is a really bad game with gameplay flaws that even 2k have had to repeatedly try to fix throughout the course of the year.

I've also said that this year has seen the best writing in mycareer story mode since they went in that direction.

If you think I just write "2k is trash", then please report my posts to the mods because I'm sure that's a bannable offence. In the meantime, if you have any counter arguments to the points I make then please feel free to respond to them and we can discuss it like adults. I'm pretty sure an unhealthy obsession with what another member posts, that forces you to mischaracterize and make snide innuendo about the content isn't doing you any favours right about now.
