PS4 Pro Upgrade Worth It for 2k18?
Gamestop has a PS4 trade-in deal that essentially gives 200 dollars credit, which is half the cost of the PS4 Pro. I've read some reviews of the Pro, and they seem to be mixed on whether it's a massive and essential upgrade if you have a 4k TV, which I do. I've read that some games are almost indistinguishable between the two systems, while others look leaps and bounds better. I wonder which is the case for 2k18. For those of you with the Pro, is it worth it to upgrade specifically for this game?End Game Lineup: http://2kmtcentral.com/17/lineups/10...ine-end-lineup

Yes it is worth it. When I first thinking about buying a ps4 pro, I was trying to find information on if it was worth it too and when I got it, you notice it right away.Gamestop has a PS4 trade-in deal that essentially gives 200 dollars credit, which is half the cost of the PS4 Pro. It is true, some games on the ps4 are not native 2160p but are close i.e 1440-1880p. Even the games that 1440-1880p are noticeable though but NBA 2k is a true 4k 2160p. If you want more information on what games on the ps4 are true 4k - 2160p, check out Digital Foundry on youtube.
In closing, NBA 2k17-18 in 4k is beautiful. The clarity is immediately noticeable. No more jaggies or rough edges and that may not sound like much but you will understand when you play it.
One thing to note about HD televisions though ( I know this because I did A LOT of research on TV's before I bought mine) is that with 4k specifically, the closer you sit, the more pixels you will be able to see. In other words, to really reap the benefits of 4k, you should be sitting at an appropriate distance. (Between 3-8 feet, Check the online and you will find info about it).
Hope this information helps though bro. I was like you when i was trying to find out information so I wanted to give you my thoughts on the matter. -

That's is a great middle of the line TV. It gets a great 4k picture. Doesn't get bright enough to display HDR to its full potential though . The 8 series Samsung is the most recommended 4k HDR Tv. It is also a couple hundred more for the same size. It's still worth it though even on your TV.Excuse the silly question, but what should I know or be wary of when it comes to HDR and gaming? I got my TV for around $500 because it was an open box that someone returned. Best Buy's policy on open boxes is really forgiving, so I gave it a shot and I've been very happy with it. At some point in life I'll upgrade again, but this is all the TV I need for now. I didn't even think about a Pro until a few days ago, but I really appreciate the feedback! Now I'm leaning towards upgrading on Friday when I pick up my copy of 2k18.That's is a great middle of the line TV. It gets a great 4k picture. Re: PS4 Pro Upgrade Worth It for 2k18?
Well it depends on how much of a graphics nut you are. I upgraded 5 months ago. It's a noticeable difference, granted you have the right TV, but it's not so crazy that 1080p becomes unbearable (unlike like standard Def to high def back in the xbox 360 days was). Also It's going to really depend on what size TV you're getting.
I have a 40 inch 4K ultra Samsung and i also have a 24 inch 4K dell monitor. On my 40 inch is where i see a noticeable difference with how crisp the picture was compared to 1080P. On my monitor it was barely noticeable, almost to the point of regretting my purchase.
So if you're going to upgrade, then just make sure you do your research. I game almost exclusively on smaller monitors and TV's , So for me it's not quite worth it. The only what you'll truly know if it's for you is to test it yourself mate.Comment

Re: PS4 Pro Upgrade Worth It for 2k18?
Before upgrading I recommend checking http://www.rtings.com/tv/tests/inputs/input-lag for a list of input lag on various TVs. It also explains the importance of this.
In some cases the input lag between your console/PC to your TV can be higher than the latency to 2k servers. This depends on the TV and which fancy processing is enabled on the TV. Most newer TVs have game mode which lowers the input lag.Comment

fwiw, I don't have the Pro, and I had problems with gameplay pausing during the Prelude... haven't had this problem with any other game, if that even has anything to do with it.Comment

Re: PS4 Pro Upgrade Worth It for 2k18?
I was going to make this exact thread in a couple weeks. Just moved to Long Island a few weeks ago and am waiting on my siblings to ship my tv to me, plus my ps4 HAS to be coming to the end of its life soon lol. I got it shortly after release, and have thus far survived the ominous repetitive beeping and disc eject issue, so have been thinking about the Pro recently.
Thanks for the feedback fellasDie hard Heat and Dolphins fan since '89

Re: PS4 Pro Upgrade Worth It for 2k18?
Overall I think the upgrading to a PS4 Pro is worth it for games other than just 2k18. As alluded to above, make sure you get a 4K screen that supports HDR 10. I picked up a 65" Samsung KS8000 back when they went on sale in the spring and I can't recommend it enough (if you can find one, newer models have come out). One word of caution with the Pro is that while 2k17 looked beautiful in 4K/HDR, the fan on my launch Pro sounded like a blow dryer at times. Oddly enough, it was the loudest when in a menu compared to actual gameplay. I think I read somewhere that it had something to do with uncapped frame rates in the menus. Hopefully this is fixed in 2k18. 2k17 made my Pro so loud that I ended up getting the Xbox One version during a Black Friday sale just so I could play in peace.

Re: PS4 Pro Upgrade Worth It for 2k18?
So I upgraded to the PS4 Pro in anticipation of tonight's 2K18 release. I got it all set up, but when I go to settings it says HDR isn't supported on my TV. That's whether I put my TV into game mode or HDR+ mode. A link to the TV I have is below, and it certainly looks like it supports HDR. Can anybody with a deeper understanding of this stuff help me out? Did I just waste my money?
