When does the next roster update come out?

I'm getting excited to start my seasons.

Should I wait or start now?

How up to date are the rosters of now?

I play the play-off mode until the opening night roster drops. Then I'll start my franchise.

Probably not until late October, early November. So do what Sody did, or play three's circuit, or trophy hunt until the time comes. Or play a different game so that when the update does come out you aren't burnt out on this game

It'll probably be the opening night one. If I recall, they usually have it out by the first Friday of the season.

However, beware, a lot of players that make the jump from the CHL to the AHL, and haven't signed their pro imaging rights paperwork disappear from the game. In other words, prospects linked to NHL teams in the game right now will disappear from the game for a while. It usually takes until December for EA to totally update the AHL and CHL, and for the players to return.

I was wondering the same thing. If they are in the game now, I wouldn't want them to disappear.

I may start a franchise with just the prospects that are in the game and maybe create a couple for nyr (shestyorian,etc)

I'm doing an expansion franchise to hold me over until a solid roster with the majority of prospects drops (Likely mid November). Uses a roster from before the entry draft, so you can't edit anyone anyway.

Will we ever see a patch that allows us to use custom rosters/updated rosters with the expansion draft or is that just a pipe dream? Should be doable, I remember you could start from the Entry Draft in previous NHL's and the draft would be full of CPU generated players/players who went undrafted since the real draft picks were on their current teams already.

I find the cpu does a pretty good job this year allocating its overage prospects in the CHL to the AHL or to its NHL rosters at the start of Franchise. For instance, I ran a test sim and Dylan Strome (on the Erie Otters roster) played the whole season with the Coyotes) and a lot of other players starting on CHL rosters but aged 20 or 21 (21 is an inelligible age to play in CHL) were on AHL rosters.

Another thing to be wary of is if you move players from the CHL to the NHL manually in roster moves outside of franchise, the draft position on their player card switches to "undrafted" and they won't qualify as a rookie.

Riffing on that, if you edit any player on the roster who is 25 and under they will be listed and tracked as a rookie in Franchise. So, say you edit Tarasenko, he will appear in rookie stats, and can (and likely will) even win the Calder. If you edit, say, Crosby this won't happen. Similarly, if you move a CHLer to an NHL roster, you can edit anything about them and save, and he'll be treated and tracked as a rookie again, although his player card will still say "undrafted."

I did some poking around and all the top draftees are there anyway.. so while I won't have the real life starting rosters.. I like having what's in there now and don't want wait a couple of months for them to be 100% accurate.

Time to get it going!

I did some poking around and all the top draftees are there anyway.. so while I won't have the real life starting rosters.. I like having what's in there now and don't want wait a couple of months for them to be 100% accurate.

Time to get it going!

I think I'm going to start one too, especially since they've rated the top prospects for the the 2018 draft much higher than in years past. I used to have to edit them, but guys like Dahlin (a 78 or 79 I think) are rated much better this year. I was also pretty impressed with my test sims on how stats, injuries, and roster management played out in general. It's not perfect, but it's good for what the game is.

I also generally edit all the LTIR (Clowe, Clarkson, Bolland, Grabovski, etc...) guys down to the lowest ovr possible and release them to FA so their teams have that cap space available like in real life. I release a lot of the players on rosters who are on PTOs in real life too. Like I don't think Ryan Malone is going to make the Wild's final roster.

It didn't even have the McGinn/Demers trade again. Maybe it fixed some kind of glitch.
