The Hunter : Call of the Wild

I got this game for Xbox this weekend. Have to say - Wow. Some of the best graphics I have seen on the One X (it's a 4k enhanced game). Humongous 50 mile maps with zero loading. The most realistic sound and atmosphere I have ever experienced in a game.

It's a slow, chilled game. It's an actual hunting sim, so the game is partly about patience and stalking. But one you get in the flow of things, it's pretty simple to find locations where you can get some lower level kills and get cash, level up..etc.

If you need fast pace, breakneck pace games, this is not the one. I get that, because I like those games too. It's a nice break from PUBG rounds.

If you want something extremely immersive and chill where you develop your skills at something while enjoying the environment, this game is amazing and quite slept on. It's actually only $40 on Xbox - IMO a nice deal.

I bought for ps4 a couple of months ago and although I like it, one thing that will make me trade it in soon is the animal rendering distance. There is a vid on youtube showing that once you're over 300m - no animals will appear. So if like me, you're into ultra-long distance shooting, that was a big let down. Everything else is great and I've def had fun, but once I realized that it is a big enough draw back for me personally that I can keep it.

Haven't had that issue on the One X. Honestly it may just run better on the more powerful machine.

Maybe I have not scoped from full 300m distance though. I will keep a note of this, but most of the animals in the game don't need to be shot from that far. Interesting point though.

totally. I do it on purpose, on some maps go to high vantage points etc, just because I like to see how far I can do it, more me that is the most gratifying thing - for others it totally is not. I have it on the regular ps4 and I'm actually looking to grab an X soon + finally grab a 4k.

I agree with everything you said, it's a really satisfying game overall and totally under the radar.

Funny you mention this, as it is definitely an under the radar release. I'd never heard of it until this past weekend when I logged on and my brother and cousin and two other friends were playing it.

I joked with them about not getting out for some real-life hunting, and they sent me some screenshots and my first response was "damn, that looks pretty good!" With more and more people bringing it up, I'll no doubt end up biting. Besides, it's actually on sale on the PS Store for $28 until the 16th.

Its such a gorgeous game. I have been playing all evening in between watching CFB championship.

My main problem with the game is when I go back and play PUBG now with my friends, it really makes that game look bad in terms of graphics..lol.I can only imagine playing. PUBG style game on this map. It would be the most engrossing and intense game of all time.

Honestly have not played anything more immersive than this.

Re: The Hunter : Call of the Wild

I bought this game when it first came out on the PS4 Pro. Looks good on that but I can imagine how it must look on the X. I really like it. I've always wanted to go hunting in real life but I don't want to kill animals so this game is perfect for me. Don't get me wrong I'm not against people hunting at all I just don't think i could shoot an animal , a person no problem but an animal is where i draw the line, lol.

To make the game more realistic I've turned off all the on screen hints like footprints , poop ,(lol) and so on so it's harder to track them. I usually just find a nice spot somewhere and lay down and with in 15 to 30 minute I hear an animal walking near by. I've had them walk right in front of me.

Definitely a nice game when you want to relax a bit, and the sounds are excellent.

I hunt in real life and I love it. Nothing better then sitting in a tree stand before sunrise and watching the sun come up in the woods and listening to the sounds of the woods come alive for the day. Then the adrenaline rush you get when a deer comes into view. I don't think of it as killing an animal, I think of it as putting food on my table. Also the sport of it, being able to outsmart an animal like a whitetail on his home turf is awesome. People that don't hunt think it is easy, trust me it's not.

That's a pretty high level of play. Impressive. I totally can see myself doing this at some point too.I'm still doing missions so it helps to have the tracks.

I love how you can make it that real though. Definitely will have to try this. I am getting a 4K tv soon and I can't imagine how the game will look then. It already looks unreal on 1080p, One X.

Honestly the tracks and poop are realistic to be left on. As a hunter it helps, coming from experience.

I think he's referring to the "glowing" hints it shows. As those aren't realistic at all.

Re: The Hunter : Call of the Wild

Been playing multiplayer with friends (about 10 hours). I know I have read that this is a bit glitchy, but so far it has been a pure pleasure for me. Nothing like walking around with someone while spotting game and working together to get kills. Plus you can split off and do your own thing while sharing what's going on.

Random people also join and are far away on the map. But it is cool because you see them getting kills and if you hold start down it shows the score for everyone.

I am hoping that they implement more competitions for online play. I believe they are doing that on the PC version. I also read that the 3rd map coming to consoles is priority for the Devs, so that will really be awesome too.
