    Lost Data Forever?

I'm afraid I already know the answer to this but I'm just double checking...

I've been playing 2k16 since release day in 2015. I've created several profiles on my ps4 and downloaded dozens of drafts and rosters.

Today I thought it would be a good idea to preserve my disc and use the digital version of 2k16 I got free with ps plus. So I overwrote my 2k16 Disc data with the digital download of 2k16. I kept the save data. However when I re-opened 2k, I got error notices that my files were corrupt.

I now realize I may have made an irreversible mistake. On 12/31/17 the servers shut down for good which means I don't have access to patches for the game, right? I think my save files are a different patch version than the digital game data for 2k16 I just uploaded. Which means I'm SOL right?

I had drafts 2016-2020, RJCs fantasy roster that I really liked and a 2013-14 roster so I could replay my favorite spurs season. I'm bummed. Someone tell me there's a way to save it all

    Re: Lost Data Forever?

    What's up, Coach?

To answer your question, maybe, it depends. You see, save data versions, like with roster files, and game data versions are not the same thing. Usually when a game first ships on disc, the save data version is "locked in" and further versions of the game data like through patches will not make any changes to the way that save data is structured. This is what ensures that a game save will always continue to function if you ever patch the game to a later version.

But your problem seems to be the reverse. For some patches of the game it brings in new assets for the game, e.g. pictures, player models, stuff that rosters use. So if those rosters you had were created with players that use assets that are not included in your game data, that could show up as a corrupt data error because your rosters are referencing a picture or something that doesn't exist.

Now, I'm not sure exactly what version of the game the digital download initially gives you, but even if 2K no longer has their servers online, you should still be receiving patches to install because those come from Sony, Microsoft, Steam, or whereever. Can you check what version of the game you have? Mine says I have 1.06 which should have been the last patch.

Hey Sonic! Hope all is good!

I already deleted the digital download and started thinking about whether to get 2k17 or 18. I got to have something to play but I was so comfortable and familiar with 16. I still feel like there's more to do before moving on. Hopefully there's a way to salvage my files. I'm downloading again to see what patch version the digital comes with. Thanks and good to hear from you

Edit: hey it says 1.06! That's good news I think. My saved game files are backed up on ps plus cloud. I will try again opening them again after the whole game installs.

Looks like you figured it out, but yeah, GM/Franchise mode should work okay even being offline. As long as you had them saved. Rosters too. I hate how 2k limits you to only 10 rosters. They started doing that next gen. Previous gen you could have unlimited roster saves. I had like rosters for nba 2k12, nba 2k13 etc...

Yeah I made 6 profiles to get around the 10 file limit. It's a hassle but i'm glad there's at least a workaround.

No update yet but yeah I have the saves. Not sure why I got corrupt file messages. I'm hoping redownloading will resolve the issue.

Still corrupt. Right after the intro when I open the app, it says the manifest files are corrupted. Any suggestions?

Yea, back up your save files somewhere else like a thumb drive or something, then remove those save files, and let the game start up normally without error. Then put the roster files back and see what happens when you launch the game.

Still corrupt. I'm open to trying anything other ideas.

Sonic I'm glad you responded because I never knew the old games would still have the latest patches. Even with the servers turned off. Which makes my 2k14 and 2k15 copies still relevant. I see the flaws but lately I don't play enough to have it bug me enough to go and get the latest game right away. I can do simple updates to my own rosters and play knowing that there won't be bugs from the game release to worry about. Thanks

You cleared all your save data and it still said corrupt? Then something else is seriously wrong.

Or it only showed you that once you placed your saves back?

Only after I put my saves back. I tried just putting my roster saves back. Corrupt. Then I put all manifest files. Also corrupt.

                      Re: Lost Data Forever?

I don't believe you can restore those rosters. I ran into the same issue when I tried to install 2K19 on my PS5. I had given away my PS4 to my nephew a few months earlier but saved all my 2K19 data files to the cloud. When my PS5 arrived, I installed 2K19 on it and then uploaded my saved data files for my CAPs and rosters. However, I ran into the same "corrupt file" error that you've been getting. From my research, there seems to be some issue where those files have to initially sync with or be validated by the server before you can first access them and you obviously can't do that once the servers are shut down. So you're okay to continue using the rosters once the servers shut down and any changes after that would be saved locally, but if you try to re-install the game, I don't think you can then access those old roster files.
