THE HAVES AND HAVE NOTS - NCAA '14 RELEGATION DYNASTY

Just a little bit of background before starting:

GAME: NCAA '14, loaded rosters from CallMeLSU from 2 years ago
Playing on: Heisman, modified sliders to make it a little more difficult
Teams controlled: Most likely Ohio State, MTSU, and any other random games I feel like playing
Simulating all recruiting for time being

    PROPOSED RELEGATION DIVISIONS AND FORMATTING:

The set-up for the proposed relegation format is as follows:

*4 conferences of 16 teams, known as the Power Conferences. This is the highest level of play, and will determine the college football national champion
*4 conferences of 16 teams, known as the Second Division Conferences. These teams will be vying for the opportunity to elevate themselves into the Power Conferences each year.
*2 conferences of 6 teams each, known as the Lower Division conferences. The winner of each of these conferences will elevate themselves to the Second Division Conferences at the end of each year.

The teams in each of these respective conferences and divisions will be released shortly.

Not surprisingly, the SEC was the first named conference of the highest level, Power Conferences. The sixteen teams in this conference will remain separated into two divisions, the East and West. The teams are as follows:

      EAST
      Arkansas
      Florida
      Georgia
      Kentucky
      Missouri
      South Carolina
      Tennessee
      Vanderbilt

      WEST
      Alabama
      Auburn
      LSU
      Mississippi State
      Ole Miss
      Texas
      Texas A & M
      Texas Tech

At the end of the season, the team with the worst divisional record will be relegated to the Second Division, swapping places with the Conference USA Champion.

        Illinois
        Indiana
        Maryland
        Notre Dame
        Ohio State

        Purdue

The last of the four Power Conferences named was the ACC, meaning the Big 12 has been relegated to a Second Division Conference. The ACC adds several new members as well, with the American Conference serving as its "feeder" conference to fill in for it's relegated team each season.

            EAST
            Clemson
            Florida State
            Georgia Tech
            Louisville
            Miami
            North Carolina
            NC State
            UCF

            WEST
            Boston College
            Duke
            Pittsburgh
            Syracuse
            Virginia
            Virginia Tech
            Wake Forest
            West Virginia

              RELEGATION SET UP

After announcing the 4 conferences and 64 teams in the top tier, the following teams and conference set-ups were announced as well.

Conference USA will serve as the feeder conference for the SEC conference, with their championship game each year serving as a "play-in game" to the SEC for the following year. In the same manner, the MAC championship will be a play in game to the Big 10, and the Big 12 and American championship games will serve as play-ins to the Pac-12 and ACC respectively.

The teams with the worst divisional records of the four Power conferences will be relegated. Also, the teams in Conference USA and the Big 12 with the worst records will be relegated to the Lower Division Sun Belt and Mountain West divisions, with those respective conference winners moving up. Confusing? Only at first. Also, the two independent teams have elected to not participate in the relegation system, and will remain independent until further notice.

First Relegation Season Will Begin after 2 Years

The first two years of this dynasty will be simulated, for several reasons. One, I wanted to test the waters, and see what kind of results I would be getting. Two, I wanted to get more reasonably current rosters. With simulating two years, I would be up to the current year players in theory, with all freshman and sophomores being computer generated (which I was fine with). Some of the players will be accurate, and some of the juniors that have jumped to the NFL are still around (I saw Calvin Ridley on Alabama for my test game). At any rate, I probably won't update any of the names past what I end up with after the two years of simulating.

This is by far one of my favorite things to do in NCAA & I used to have a setup very similar to yours. Excited to vicariously live through this thread man...

Thanks. The first year two as I sim and set things up may be a little bit sloppier, but I hope to find a good set-up that works for me. I will start posting the results of Year 1 here shortly.

2016 Season In the Books (simulated)

While relegation does not officially begin until the 2018 season, the newly formed conferences began battling it out here in 2016. Let's look at a quick overview of the final conference standings, and take a deep dive into a few of the "what-ifs" before exploring some of the other wild happenings of the season

                      In the Power Conferences:
                      * Auburn defeated Alabama in the Iron Bowl, then followed that with a convincing win over surprising Tennessee in the SEC Championship game to lay claim to the SEC title. On the other end of things, Vanderbilt sputtered to a 1-11 record, going winless in the conference. If this were 2018, they would have been relegated to Conference USA.

                      * In the Big 10, Notre Dame defeated Ohio State head to head to win the Big 10 West despite having five losses going into the Big 10 title game. Ohio State did defeat Michigan in their rivalry, handing Michigan their only conference defeat. Michigan handled Notre Dame in the Big 10 Championship, as Jim Harbaugh may have turned a corner for the Wolverines. In bottom dwelling news, Northwestern went 1-8 in the Big 10 and would have been relegated (even though I accidentally highlighted Rutgers, who was also terrible).

                      * Stanford was impressive all season, running to a 13-1 record overall and a victory over TCU in the Pac-12 Championship. Oregon State goes winless in conference, and is saved the embarrassment of relegation for the time being.

                      * In the ACC, the most surprising team of the year turns out to be North Carolina, led by quarterback Marquise Williams. The Tarheels rode a huge victory over FSU into the ACC Championship, where they knocked off Boston College. On the other end of things, UCF does not impress in their first action in a Power conference. There doesn't look to be any threat of national championship banners coming in this simulation.

In the Second and Lower Divisions:

                      * A few of the teams that probably felt the biggest snub over their initial placements - Army, Navy, and BYU - all perform well in the Second Division. Both Army and BYU would have been promoted if this was in place, and Navy's last second loss to rival Army was probably the only thing that stood in their way of a potential promotion as well.

                      * Western Kentucky and Bowling Green both won their conferences, and raise the expectation levels going forward. On the other end of things, UAB and Colorado State took steps in the wrong direction, and may be in danger of dropping to the forgotten realm of the Lower Division if they don't improve.

                      * Signs of life out of FIU and Texas State, both who coulda woulda shoulda been promoted if it were two years in the future.

*Note: I will be hopefully working on my tables going forward and not relying on screen shots of Excel to post standings. Stay tuned.

Final Top 20 Standings, Heisman Voting, and National Championship Results

In a huge shocker, North Carolina defeated SEC Champ Auburn 35-13 to win the college football championship for 2016. QB Marquise Williams capped off his surprising Heisman Trophy season is glorious fashion, and made folks question whether or not North Carolina is just a basketball school anymore.

In a bizarre twist, the other four Heisman finalists all came from Second Division schools. In this simulation, the Second Division is for losers, so I'm not even going to list them here.
