What Causes All Of The -1 To Ratings After A Franchise Game?

In franchise, the season starts with a - or + to various ratings (this is not an effect of morale, the changes to ratings due to morale are only seen in game). It’s usually a point here or there, sometimes a 2 or 3 point ratings change to one rating. After you’ve played a game, your first game of the franchise, between 1 and 3 players have a -1 to almost every stat. I’m sure this have never been officially explained, as most things rating related are never explained. But has anyone figured out what causes this?

I wish overall ratings were weighted separately, with in season performance ratings. X Pitcher might suffer a midseason injury and lose velocity then gain it all back after rehab. Y Pitcher might move to the bullpen midseason and gain velocity but he's a starter with an average velocity rating. I really think franchise should separate overall ratings from performance ratings then develop an algorithm to setup which dynamics we see in game.

Sorry to distract from your question because it's a great one. I wonder if there's even a justifiable answer if there is one for it.

I know for the older players (usually 32 and older) this is the "regression" of their abilities. Now, keep in mind, that if these players are B or A potential, they can still "progress" while they are regressing.

For the younger players, It is "regression", but I also chalk it up to wear and tear over the course of a season. But, officially, it is "regression." But, for younger, higher potential players, the progression is more than the regression.....

Isn't it the mgrs. & coaches ability ratings doing it?

No, I'm pretty sure (99.999%) that it is progression (+) and regression (-) of the players.

If you notice, players 35 and older regress really fast.

When it’s the first game and their ratings are not changed, then they regress after one game? It’s not just older players either. Trea Turner has all -1 for me after one game.

For some reason trea turners potential is 81 so his overall keeps declining because of that I'm pretty sure

There is different forms of "regression"

There is regression due to age. Some older players will lose 5-8 points per attribute, and 20 points overall in one season, if they are over 35.

Then, there is regression due to "fatigue" over the course of the season. That is why even with young players you will occasionally see them go down a point or two in some categories.

You don't notice this as much, because for the younger players with high potential, their "progression" is far superior to the "regression" due to "fatigue"

If I'm understanding correct, you're talking about players regressing -1 on a lot of attributes early in the season. And that's a well known issue. The good news is that it usually reverses after about a month. But some players, like those who are older or not playing well, may continue to regress.
