    2K19 being advertised as a 20th anniversary?

    So 2k10 was advertised as a 10th anniversary (1999-2009)

And now 2k19 is being advertised as a 20th anniversary. I don't even know what to say?

Is it because a large part of the community despised 2k18? So they need to give people like "an extra motivation" to buy the game. I mean we all know it's a marketing move, but to just blatantly lie?

Re: 2K19 being advertised as a 20th anniversary?

So I figured out why 2K claims 2K19 as the 20th anniversary in the franchise. That's because it's the 20th installment of NBA 2K since it debuted back in '99. Just check the wiki page and count the number of NBA 2K games listed. 2K19 is the 20th version of NBA 2K that's why it's a celebrated edition based on that and not a numbered year. Like how the last anniversary edition coincidently aligned with the 2K10 version to be the exact 10 year anniversary even tho it was released in 2009.

"An anniversary is the date on which an event took place or an institution was founded in a previous year"

"The NBA 2K series is a series of basketball simulation video games developed and released annually since 1999"

NBA 2k10 was the 10 anniversary, because it came out in 2009, 1999-2009

NBA 2020 is going to be a 20th anniversary, because it is going to come out in 2019, so 1999-2019.

Is 2k going to advertise 2k20 as a 20th anniversary game as well?

How do you not understand that they're one game ahead of the number 2K1 since they debuted NBA 2K0 in '99? Let me show you the list that shows 2K19 as the 20th installment of 2K hence the reasoning for it having an 20th anniversary edition for 2K19 in 2018 instead of 2K20 in 2019. So 2K10 Anniversary represented the traditional developmental cycles by year but not the total installments made. While 2K19 20th Anniversary represents the installments made in the franchise but not the developement yearly cycle. So I'd honestly say that this is a more authentic video game anniversary edition than 2K10's to be honest from a real 2K fans viewpoint.

Would make more sense to wait til 2k20 for this.

The original game came out in 1999, 2k10 in 2009, and 2k20 would come in 2019.

This would be the 20th edition in the series but only the 19th year (2K10 was called the 10th Anniversary Edition)

It's the 20th game in the series, that's a pretty big milestone for a game no matter what way you look at.

They never said it was the 20th YEAR in the series, but it is in fact the 20th game in the series. I swear some of ya'll look for any reason to throw hate at this game. LOL

I understand what are you saying, but 20th edition isn't the same as 20th anniversary

From the dictionary: "The date on which an event took place or an institution was founded in a previous year."

"from Latin anniversarius ‘returning yearly’, from annus ‘year’ + versus ‘turning’"

The date, the year, anniversary refers to a point in time.

You can't say "LeBron just played his 1000th game in the league. That's his 1000th anniversary"

You still don't understand that they are going by the definition from a different aspect? This is the date an the year that refers to a point in time in which 2K19 is the 20th edition. They can't keep the definition of anniversary accurate because they would of had to release every NBA 2K the same date yearly after it's debut in November 10th, of 1999 the same. So I mean come on its just a video game franchise that's an annual yearly series. Not a nation celebrating it's Independence from July 4th, 1776 and there forth after.

Echo everyone saying it's not its 20th anniversary, because it's not. It's its 19th anniversary.

For those of you not grasping the concept, let's look at marriage for an example. When you get married (akin to VC releasing NBA 2K), it's not the first anniversary. The would be one year after your marriage date (akin to NBA 2K1). So, logically, NBA 2K19 would be the 19th anniversary.

I think the reason people are getting upset is because it very obviously is a marketing ploy to justify releasing a $100 anniversary edition and get people to say "Ooo, it's the 20th anniversary! I'll buy it!" So yes, it is a big deal that they are falsely advertising this as a 20th anniversary.

There's really nothing further to grasp....hova broke it down pretty clearly...I guess folks could not accept it, or use it as further footing to express dislike of the franchise...but the concept is pretty clear...

as someone at the company said, its actually their 30th year as a team together, 20th anniversary of the 2k series....they are aware how long they've been doing this.

Same collectors edition announcement as every year....you would think they upped the price or something, lol

It's released early September..... pretty much only 4 months of it's life will be in 2018, 8 months or more in 2019. The 20th year as well as 20th game.

It's not hard to notice that 2K is always based on the season following the release. Your rookie year in 2K19 will be the 2018-19 season.

Don't know why this is even a debate.

Then why was NBA 2K10 their 10th anniversary? Using your logic, the NBA 2K9 edition should've held that distinction.
