Reason why FIFA Career mode got no love
Below is a quote in an interview with Matt Prior, FIFA 19 producer. He's basically stating that career mode did not receive much attention as there are not enough players to justify allocating resources to CM.

Re: Reason why FIFA Career mode get no love
Nothing to see here. Back in fifa13 or maybe fifa14 the game menu urged me to try FUT "the most popular fifa game mode". That was the only time I've spent any time in FUT. Just a minute or two, trying to understand what the mode was about. I failed, it was incomprehensible to me at the time, lol.Below is an interview with Matt Prior, FIFA 19 producer. It's basic marketing, if you WANT something to become popular, act like it already is and make people feel like they're missing out on something. I'm still not touching the mode, and I'm missing nothing.
Not saying that it's not popular today, I don't have the numbers. But since then people have also said that CM is very popular, and he's careful to say "from EA's point of view" which could mean anything.
Yes we all know it's all about the micro-transactions. They'd love it if all of us spent an extra couple of thousands after the initial sale. Dream on EA.
Looking forward to their upcoming legal battle with Belgium's gambling authorities. Pop corn in hand. -

BS. **** EA and their micro transactions. I'm fine by this decision. I will protest with my wallet instead. I won't be buying another EA Fifa soccer game. Instead I'll stick with the much superior product in PES. It has the more fun career mode and gameplay anyways.Comment

Re: Reason why FIFA Career mode got no love
Which is exactly why I now only purchase a new FIFA title every other year, as opposed to every year like I would've done not so long ago.
There just aren't enough improvements to justify it.
The real shame is that despite this massive gap in the market that's ready to be taken advantage of, PES still aren't able to make a competent enough game for most of us to want to make the switch.Comment

Re: Reason why FIFA Career mode get no love
now its the biggest EA game mode, across any of their games & has been the number one selling console video game in the world for a few years now. As much as i love career mode, EA cares little about what anyone in here thinks, they're doing fine.Last edited by RonMexico1992; 09-11-2018, 11:30 PM.Comment

Re: Reason why FIFA Career mode get no love
It's their biggest ONLINE game mode. I'd be willing to bet that the most played game mode OVERALL is still Career Mode. Makes them no more than the initial 60 bucks, tho, so it's not a priority for them. I don't think I've ever seen a bigger push for Career Mode improvements than I have this year, so I honestly think that FIFA 20 could finally be the upgrade we've been asking for.#LFC

Nope, FUT is the most played mode. By far. The devs have confirmed this at community and press events for at least the past 3-4 years now. IIRC it's something like 60+% play FUT and under 40% play CM.It's their biggest ONLINE game mode. I'd be willing to bet that the most played game mode OVERALL is still Career Mode. Still, you're dead on - it's not about the reach and people who play the modes, it's about the insane $$$ that FUT brings in.
It's not a popular idea but I'll say it again - if we want a deep and higher quality single player mode, EA are going to need to monetize CM either through paid DLC or some other form.Comment

Re: Reason why FIFA Career mode get no love
Of COURSE they’re going to “confirm that.” Lmao! They’ll tell you what they want you to hear. It makes them millions, so there’s no way they’d say otherwise! When you combine offline and online users, I GUARANTEE more people TOTAL play Career Mode as their primary game mode. But obviously, you’ll never hear that from EA. 😉💰Nope, FUT is the most played mode. By far. The devs have confirmed this at community and press events for at least the past 3-4 years now. Nah it’s pretty easy to tell dude. If you go anywhere on the Internet besides here, all FIFA talk is FUT talk. Check any streams on Twitch/Etc they’re all playing FUT. Most popular YouTube FIFA channels? 100% FUT. Same thing with Madden, it’s all MUT. I’ve seen simple pack opening videos with 10 million views or more lol. It’s not a conspiracy. It’s not EA trying to push people toward FUT... They already are, in mass numbers. Ultimate Team checks all the boxes for this generation of gamers. Pack openings (kids love opening packs on their parents dime), online competition where they can talk smack about your mom, and short fast paced games with a lot of goals. I despise UT in any form, and I think they’re directly contributing to the decline in quality in sports games. But they aren’t going away anytime soon, and the majority of people who purchase these games gravitate toward them. Even in the 2K NBA games, MyTeam (their equivalent of UT) is played more than their excellent franchise mode, the best in sports gaming without question. And MyTeam isn’t even their most popular game mode! In MLB The Show, Diamond Dynasty (UT equivalent) is BY FAR their most played mode. The devs have shared the numbers before and it’s pretty staggering. DD and Road to the Show (MyPlayer) is where like 80% of the playerbase spend majority of their time. Franchise modes aren’t lucrative for devs anymore. They aren’t selling points. It’s the sad truth.Comment

Re: Reason why FIFA Career mode got no love
It's all about the money sadly. Until the day the devs can micro transaction the ability to increase your transfer budget or boost your scouted players' rating, nothing will be improved unfortunately.
Anyone remember "practice match" (not the one currently with the 1v1 against goalkeeper but the one that allows for scrimmage matches horizontally or practicing FK/PKs). Starting to learn the game, practicing skill moves by watching YTers like Hjerpseth and kazooie94 while listening to the awesome soundtrack, those were the days.
And they removed this mode/feature for the same reason as above, it doesn't generate revenue. EA thinking, "Why allow this feature to exist where players sometimes spend countless hours on that doesn't benefit us financially? Instead, lets remove that feature and subtly herd people into playing FUT and advertise coins/packs". NOT surprised at all they didn't improve career mode and wouldn't be a shock either if they removed it entirely in the future.Comment

Extra content from FUT brought in $650 million. That’s why.

And as much as you want to vilify the devs, the ones that I've met have all been good dudes trying their best to make a quality football game while trying to please millions of people with different priorities.
I don't like EA as a company and the FIFA studio is guilty of some poor things but in my experience calling the individuals who work on the game liars is without merit and goes too far.
Believe what you want to believe but there's a good amount of evidence against your argument and pretty much nothing to support your claim. And trust me, as someone who primarily plays single player, I'd love nothing more for you to be right.Comment

Re: Reason why FIFA Career mode got no love
I honestly believe that FIFA 20 will be known as "Career Mode Year." I've just seen too many complaints and Corey Andress seems like he's dedicated to getting that fixed. If it's not, I have no problem with making that the last straw for me and finally walking away. I did the same thing with Madden YEARS ago. I'm really more focused on Open World games, these days, anyway. We'll see.#LFC

We all wish that would happen but i doubt it. EA has shown no willingness to care about career mode players and i won't believe they're changing it until i see it. We're basically still playing Fifa 15 career mode.Comment
