Why is the Playground Dead(compared to past 2Ks)

Many YouTubers have commented and most say people are running from competition. I think I even made an erroneous comment on saying as such going as far as to say removing seeing OVRs to allieviate the situation. I think it happens but now I don't think it's the main reason

Maybe the real reason is that there are too many parks(it has been said it's the most popular game mode in certain versions of 2K). Also including the amount of new things in 2K19 compared to prior 2Ks meant that there is more to do in the game than just play Playground.

Maybe the TRUE reason is tying the former Rep rewards(rewards for user skill and win percentage) into the Road to 99(just playing the game in any capacity) might also mean more reason to grind for Skill Points then to play games to get better.

What say you(I know this is more of a simulation community for a thread on an arcade game mode)

Is this something that even should be addressed?

Re: Why is the Playground Dead(compared to past 2Ks)

I think the two biggest reasons is the number of different playgrounds/servers. Makes each one have less people. And the people who only want to play with friends or without randoms. I cant tell you how many times I've seen people refuse to play because of someone having a lower overall

I think getting rid of people being able to see others overalls. Maybe just being able to see their skill ratings when you view their 2k card

Another one, not sure any people may even factor this in in their decision to play, but the amount of mypoints they give out in the park compared to mycareer is ridiculous. I dont know a good way to balance it in comparison, but I played for a good 2 hours or so last night and went up maybe 2% towards my points. I could've easily accomplished that by playing one mycareer game.

Idk what the answer is, but it sucks getting on and waiting forever to play. It's gotten to a point where I just hop on and play with who ever sometimes. Regardless of overall

Gameplay in the park is incredibly stale, run a curl around a big, shoot from halfcourt, repeat.

They should try making a 3 v 3 halfcourt game, a smaller court would lead to better defense and more challenging games imo. Nobody getting lost in transition etc.

Youtubers complaining about a climate they helped create is funny.

Just off the top of my head:

Toxic Youtube/2K community placing winning above all else even you have to cheese as a top priority. Doesn’t matter if I used exploits, a win is a win and you are trash essentially

Mode went downhill when 2K made park records public in 17 I think it was. Led to people ducking comp and cherrypicking opponents they think they can beat to manicure their record/win %. Youtubers and other “elite” players creating a false perception with this and too many people chase after it. It’s a vanity record, it doesn’t tell how good someone really is

This generation is scared of losing and building character/getting better through losing. Unrealistic expectation that they should win every game, hit every shot etc. If they don’t feel like they are completely dominating or might lose, they just walk off the court

                      1) Lag
(by the time you are 10 points in, the game gets laggy)

                      2) Too easy to beat down
(Would be nice if they added some sort of comeback system where the ratings go up for teams losing, making more close game, and funner games)

                      3) Cages

                      4) Lack of variety.
(In 2k17 and prior, I liked the different looks and feel to the different affiliation courts. Ballers on the beach, Flyers on the board-walk etc...)

Just think about it, more than ever (especially because of annoying youtubers), people only care about keeping their silly records “clean” in the park. Record snobs have ruined the park. If there were not any public records in this game, you would see purples even playing in squads with brownies all the time because if you lose the lost doesn’t go on your public record. Everyone would have fun constantly playing with each other (without record worries), regardless of what overall their teammate is.

As long as records are public, this beautiful unity will never exist.

EXACTLY. This explains it all. This is what the park has now sadly become. I hope 2K reads this thread and think of new ways to make the park more unified for everyone in 2K20. People have become way too obsessed with public records. It’s beyond silly and killing the park.

What’s the purpose of even having a park if everyone is scared to play with one another?

I think it's more about the showing of overalls than the records, but yeah I agree that both play a huge part in how many games are being played

I noticed many clowns in the park. Thugs too.
