Re: The Changing of the Guard | Madden '19 New York Giants Franchise
Sense of purpose surrounds Giants camp In walking around the Quest Diagnostics Training Center in East Rutherford, NJ, it is clear that there is one thing on the minds of everyone in the New York Giants organization: be better. "I think everyone in this organization was flat out embarrassed last year. We let things happen that should never be happening here," said longtime veteran quarterback Eli Manning. Manning was referring to a 2017 season in which the Giants had their worst record in many years at 3-13 and watched their biggest rival claim their first Super Bowl trophy. There has been a large amount of change throughout the organization, perhaps none bigger than the sale of the team. Feeling themselves reaching the end of the road, John Mara and Steve Tisch sold the team in March, citing that they felt they were no longer the best people to be at the top of the show. Taking over the team is young financial mogul and lifelong Giants fan Justin Bogen, who has promised nothing short of success for the Giants. Bogen immediately started to make changes, as he fired GM Jerry Reese in his third day owning the team, hiring Dave Gettleman in his place. Gettleman started making his mark immediately, as he hired Pat Shurmur to replace Ben McAdoo as the head coach. He also made waves in the draft, as he drafted a potential superstar in Saquon Barkley out of Penn State, as well as an immediate offensive line improvement in Will Hernandez from UTEP and a new backup quarterback in Kyle Lauletta from Richmond. In their dealings with the media, Shurmur and Gettleman have driven home the point that fans will not see the Giants fail to compete like last year. As with any organization, it will not always be sunshine and roses, but the Giants will be back to having the success that the Big Blue faithful deserve to see. The Giants play tune-up preseason games against the Browns, Lions, Jets and defending AFC Champion Patriots to try to get ready for a rebound season. |

End of Preseason
After rough preseason, Giants ready for Week One The New York Giants went 1-3 in the preseason, and the theme in all four games was getting throttled on the defensive side. The Giants gave up more than 30 points in all four games, and it is clear that there is some serious work to do on that side of the ball. Still, coach Pat Shurmur seems unworried by the results of the games, which is understandable. It was, after all, the preseason, and the starters played less than half the snaps in each game. Shurmur points to depth as the biggest problem, as there are significant dropoffs within the two-deep at several positions. The starters, however, seem very capable, with great talents around the defensive lineup including Landon Collins, Janoris "Jackrabbit" Jenkins, and Damon "Snacks" Harrison. Offensively, there are fewer questions about where the team is, although the outlook is a bit grim. Returning from last year are some established talents in Odell Beckham, Jr., Sterling Shepard, and Eli Manning. The Giants signed Jonathan Stewart in the offseason to try to develop a running game, but then they drafted Saquon Barkley, who won the starting job for the season. The left side of the offensive line looks improved with Nate Solder and Will Hernandez, but the right side, which includes the controversial Ereck Flowers, is going to be incredibly suspect. <html><head><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;
