What Does Your DD Squad Look Like?

I know we're only a day after launch, but lets see what the DD squads look like so far? I played 8 online games yesterday (6-2) and ran into teams that were loaded up with diamonds already (clearly players who had bought excessive stubs).

C - Wilson Ramos (I picked him up last night, I only played a single conquest with him. He's painfully slow, but his hitting is great and his defense is alright.

1B - Anthony Rizzo (I just picked him up last night and moved him in, I have not used him yet. However I needed a few more leftie bats in my lineup. Miggy was killing me with 4 overall speed as well.)

2B - Matt Carpenter (I was really struggling with Carpenter when I first got him, that's really changed. I've been able to absolutely destroy right handed pitching with him. I've got him hitting lower down in my lineup (I believe 6-7) and I don't know if that helps, but any mistake a pitcher makes seems to end up in the bleachers. I've got him playing second base, because for whatever reason I don't see alot of balls hit to second. He's played much better defensively at 2nd than he did for me at third.)

SS - Cal Ripken Jr (This was my diamond preorder. To me it was a choice between he or Steve Finley, as they are the most well rounded options. I went with Cal because there are far fewer SS. Great decision, he plays really well, solid contact with a bit of pop. But the stand out thing is his defense, if the ball is hit anywhere near him, it's an out.

3B - Josh Donaldson (He's done well. He is absolutely no problem at the plate, I've got him hitting right in the middle of my lineup. On defense he's looked fine for me as well, I had one throwing error that cost me a game (threw the ball into the stands with one out in the 8th) but aside from that, he's been great. I also have pretty strong feeling that if JD stays healthy this year, he's going to go diamond again.)

RF - Charlie Blackmon (I've struggled with Blackmon thus far but I like his contact ratings and he makes for a solid top of the order guy. His defense is serviceable, aside from his throwing, I haven't found my timing with him just yet.)

CF - Lorenzo Cain (I picked him up because defense was supposed to matter... I haven't seen a difference between he and Pollock. In fact Cain dropped a routine fly ball late in a game that turned into a triple. He's alright at the plate, great leadoff option, I don't think I've had an extra basehit with yet, but he has the ability to hit and run and steal he also gets on alot.)

LF - Marcell Ozuna (He's solid. Similar to Pollock but will cost you a bit more. Good power, good contact, speed is OK and so if the defense. I think the cost of his card is climbing, I got him for around 2300. At that price he's a steal.

Bench - Miguel Cabrera - Great in pinch hit situations, the down side is his speed is TERRIBLE.
Ben Zobrist - Good versatility, decent contact rating against both righties and lefties.
Jeff McNeil - Really high contact rating against righties. I don't think I've ever even swung and missed with him. Great guy if you need to hit and run etc.
Ken Griffey Sr - Great contact (especially against lefties) and can run quite well.
Logan Forsythe - Another guy with a ton of versatility, decent in the field, decent contact.

1P - Carlos Carrasco (I've yet to have him pitch.. so I can't really say much)
2P - Jameson Taillon (He's solid. He feels like a pitcher who won't win or lose me the game. His stuff is good enough to keep you in the game, but he's not going to shut down many lineups.)
3P - Mike Clevenger (He's alright, nothing to write home about.)
4P - Madison Bumgarner (Great control. You can really paint the corners and he has a wide array of pitches. The problems seem to occur when he leaks over the plate, combine that with him being a leftie and if you make a mistake you're going to get punished)
5P - Dennis Eckersley (It really depends on your opponent. I think if the windup messes with the timing of your opponent, you're going to be able to toy with them. However if your opponent makes you bring pitches into the strike zone you're going to get hit around. He doesn't have swing and miss stuff in the zone. The slider needs to leave the zone to be effective and his fastball is only mid 90s.

Closer - Dellin Bettances (Absolute beast. He's yet to allow a baserunner. 100 Mph fastball, combined with lethal breaking stuff. He makes opponents look silly.)
SU - Will Smith (Solid lefty to come out of the pen, reasonable price, great breaking ball)
SU - Kirby Yates (He's better then I expected. He actually has done pretty well for me thus far.)
Notables - Jeremy Jeffries (this player is going to climb in rating.)
Chris Sale - (79 Silver rookie card, a great option as a lefty to come out of the pen)
Brad Hand - I actually prefer Sale as my leftie out of the pen, but Hand is good as well, he an inexpensive strong leftie relief option.

Some of the cards that I've run into that look good.

Joey Gallo - This card is stupid. Like honestly stupid. Half the teams I run into have him. I played a guy who hit 3 HR's with him, not once was the pitch in the zone, or hit by an on time swing. It basically looks like if you make contact with the ball, it's going to go.

Whit Merrifield - I've had a hell of a time getting this guy out. He's a really intriguing card for me (great speed, versatile and solid contact) as he fits my play style.

Aaron Judge - This card is stupid OP. I've played against him twice and both times guys were pulling low and away sliders (out of the zone) over the fence in left. They were early and only getting 'OK' contact. I strongly dislike this card, simply because I don't have him.

Joey Votto - If you strike out with Joey Votto you should just give up. He seriously makes contact with everything. I've had 12 pitch at bats against him, where the opponent was clearly just normal swinging on directional and still managed to foul everything off. I sometimes will just walk him.

    *****

Feel free to post up your thoughts, I feel like my team is decent enough that I should be able to compete in most games. The unfortunate thing for me is I'm now starting to run into the try hards who spend hundreds of dollars chasing diamonds. My second last game last night I ran into a guy who had 5 (yes 5!) diamonds already....

Re: What Does Your DD Squad Look Like?

This is my first year playing DD after being mainly an offline franchise and RTTS guy. I must say that I am having a blast and am really struggling to turn the game off.

I preordered the digital deluxe edition and a couple of other bonuses so I had 60 packs to open when the game released. Terrible luck I pulled six or seven gold players but that was it. I selected Frank Thomas as my diamond choice (Auburn legend, I have an autographed baseball from him when he played for the Birmingham Barons).

However, after playing the market and buying some more stubs last night I bought two 50 pack bundles. What a time it was. I pulled Judge, Harper, Betts, Votto, and Mark Prior along with countless golds. Now I am trying to decide on if I should sell any of those guys to help complete my Cleveland Indians collection. I'm three cards away and could get a diamond Kenny Lofton for it.

Damn. Your bad pack luck would be considered great if it was me! I've yet to ever pull a diamond (been playing since 16)

Mine is Mike Trout plus 8 others at the moment, but I'm closing in on pretty much a great team. I'm just a few levels, few thousand stubs and a few innings away from this

C- ? CAP or Wilson Ramos I guess
        1B- Hoskins/olson
        2B- AS Zobrist
        3B- Arenado
        SS- AS Reyes
        LF- Acuna
        CF- Trout
RF- AS Kemp/HW Ichiro (still haven't decided who to pick)

How have you found Seager? I've debated him a few times and usually end up picking up someone else. He has 2B as a secondary?

                    Re:

this is really a work in progress, since I had to sacrifice some offense to not have a completely awful defense

                    1. 2B 85 CAP ("The Only" Norman Arredondo). My Imitation Nolan Arenado is a contact focused 2B with bumped up stats thanks to equipment is an excellent leadoff hitter that can field well enough
                    2. LF 88 Ty Cobb. I have a small sample with him, but while his fielding is awful, he's in left so it isn't completely awful and his offense protects him
                    3. RF 86 Bryce Harper. He's been an insanely good hitter for me, and his fielding hasn't come into question yet.

                    4. 3B 87 Mike Schmidt. It's a good card, and he creates a balance in what seems to be a lineup that hits righties harder than lefties, but I feel like Torii Smith, Nolan Ryan, or Rickey Henderson would've been a better option
                    5. SS 83 Corey Seager. He's my only gold shortstop, and he's gold fielding/hitting, so he's solid here. I would like more speed there though
                    6. 1B 80 Robinson Cano(Secondary). A brand new card to this lineup, so I don't know. I was using Hoskins for a while and he's very good for a silver slugger. I also have Abreu, but I'm not a fan of his card
                    7. C 83 JT Realmuto. He used to be my 2 hitter, and he's very good for that and defense. Probably the best catcher without breaking the bank
                    8. CF 78 Billy Hamilton. I'd have someone like Eddie Rosario here, but I need defense and speed there, and what better than Billy Hamilton at his price for that?

                    Bench
RF 81 Jay Bruce. Good bench piece who can field and hit for power
C 82 Buster Posey. Great against lefties, good defensive catcher
2B 81 Ozzie Albies. I've never even used this card
LF 84 Minnie Minoso. My old LF, if Cobb stinks he goes back in. Very reliable
LF 81 Tommy Pham. Again, a very good card.

                    Rotation
96 Cy Young. Could throw a hair harder, but I love this card for making bats miss
87 Cole Hamels. If you had the fortunes I had, get the Phillies collection done. Hamels has been a very good arm for me
85 Aaron Nola. Sadly he's probably the weakest diamond(Kinda like being the poorest billionaire), but I love him and He's going nowhere

84 Robbie Ray. I think this card plays better than I use it. I struggle, but I just can't get his timing down
81 Charlie Morton. a solid card that's just there for the Tampa Bay innings I need to eat

                    Bullpen
79 Chris Sale. Probably the best lefty Option I have, and I have Jonny Venters
78 Eric Gagne. Used to be 80 Archie Bradley, but I don't think that card is very good
80 David Robertson. Solid card, but not going to overpower people
79 Seranthony Dominguez. What a stud this card is. Whiffs everywhere
82 Dellin Betances. If you can keep the ball in the zone, Whiff City
81 Jonny Venters. another good lefty option, but not as good as Sale
84 Craig Kimbrel. Super reliable closer. Only reason why I took Cy Young over Goose

Yeah he can also play 2nd. I just packed Story last night so I've been playing him at 2nd and Seager at SS. I like Seager a lot. He was the second player I bought with stubs on launch night. First was Chipper.

I would say Seager is offensively probably the 2nd or 3rd most consistently productive player in my lineup. It's really a toss up 1-3 between him, Cain, and Chipper. Kris Davis and Sal Perez also ALWAYS seem to come thru with home runs when I need them the most. Defensively you know what you're getting with Seager, and offensively he's been very steady. Don't think I've hit a homer with him yet, but he finds the gaps a lot. I don't see myself replacing him, if I do, it would be for a diamond probably.

Re: What Does Your DD Squad Look Like?

Here's the lineup I was going with today, I change things up based on the IE boosts for some spots:

RF Stan Musial - Special Edition Diamond
                            SS Javier Baez LS
CF Jim Edmonds - NL Central Collection
                            3B Nolan Arenado LS
                            LF Christian Yelich LS
1B Albert Pujols - Cards Collection
C Jonathan Lucroy - Brewers Collection
2B Ryne Sandberg - Cubs Collection

                            Bench
                            Adrian Gonzalez - Padres Collection
                            Kris Bryant LS
                            Willie Mays - Moments Reward
                            Dave Parker - Reds Collection
                            Justin Turner LS

If Yelich has a lowered IE, I put Pujols in LF and play either Goldschmidt or Votto at 1B.

                            Rotation
                            Orel Hershiser - Dodgers Collection
                            Clayton Kershaw LS
                            Babe Ruth - Moments Reward
Bob Gibson - Cards Team Affinity
#5 goes to whatever live series has good IE boosts, today it was Chris Archer. In 4 levels, this will be Signature Ryan.

                            Bullpen
                            Andrew Miller LS
                            Jonny Venters - XP Reward
                            Josh Hader LS
                            Kyle Barraclough - Marlins Collection
                            Kirby Yates LS
                            Kenley Jansen LS
Rob Nen - NL West Collection

Re: What Does Your DD Squad Look Like?

Haven't got any diamonds players, did pull Simmons im a simgles pack but sold him and a couple of golds to buy 10 bundle with zero luck so my squad isn't that good yet but this is what I'm rocking with so far.

                              C Grandal (absolute beast)
                              1B my CAP (78 ovr)
                              2B Mondesi
                              3B Donaldson (loyalty reward)
                              SS Seager (most consistent hitter)
LF Winker (with 5* IE hits everything)
CF Buxton (surprisingly a good hitter for me)
                              RF Puig

Bench: Scwarber and Renfroe are always there and I use whoever has 5* IE to fill out the rest of my bench.

                              Rotation
                              Bauer
                              MadBum
                              Grienke
                              Clevinger
                              Corbin

                              Bullpen
                              O. Perez
                              Rogers
                              Castillo
                              Rodriguez
                              Clippard
                              Goody
                              Hand

Mainly playing conquest on AS and HOF and yet to take my team online.
