NHL 09 to now - which is best?
 

What do you guys think is the game that plays the most realistic version of hockey with the least amount of drawbacks from NHL 09 to now?

I’m simply looking at the realism of the offline hockey experience with the least amount of fuss, disregarding differences in console generations and graphics, etc.

As of right now for last gen, I’m really enjoying NHL 11 for PS3. For current gen now that I’ve finally found a good slider set, I’m really enjoying NHL 19 for PS4.

NHL 11 - interesting..
I'd have to go grab a copy of that.

Better than 14/15/Legacy?

NHL 09 on PC. (I assume you aren't including 2K in the discussion because that would be a different answer)
A close second is Legacy. But although the gameplay is solid and though it's the only solid NHL since the PS3/360 era, it grows incredibly boring with time. It plays a solid individual game of hockey but fails to differentiate among talented players and teams or in any way create any ambience outside of the gameplay regardless of the mode played.

NHL '14 on PS3. We still had roster sharing, custom music, and NHL View.

Isn’t that all available for 15 and Legacy also?

Not sure. I stopped at '14. Just bought '19 a few weeks ago for $20 just because the playoffs were about to start and I wanted a hockey fix.

I haven’t played NHL 14 in years so I cannot speak to that version. I have both NHL 15/Legacy Edition and I don’t like the gameplay in those two versions. I just played a couple of games in NHL 11 today and it plays a lot better IMO. Also, the CPU actually takes penalties in NHL 11. They are few and far between in those other versions mentioned. Overall, I think NHL 11 is the better game. What’s your opinion?
