    Pick and Roll has never worked properly in 2k

    When I call for a pick manually, why is it that the person setting the pick rolls when the defender runs into him and not after I move. It manipulates the screener in a way that is counterproductive to the mechanic in general.

    Then Mike Wang had the nerve to increase the sensitivity slider on Moving screens so now if the defender runs into the screener before he even sets the screen, a moving screen is called almost half the time.

    Not sure who needs to read this post (da czar, Mike Wang) but if you want the user to run the pick and roll correctly, let's make sure the pick and roll logic works properly.

    There's a lot of different ways the pick and roll logic can be improved.

    1) If the defense switches, it would be nice if the screener could attempt to seal and post up the smaller mismatched defender rather than just mindlessly run under the basket.
    2) If the defense traps, it would be nice if the roller could cut his roll short and not roll into a rotating defender.
    3) If the on ball defender beats the screen, maybe re-screen?
    4) Get rid of the "black hole" effect when the ball handler is standing still and the screen comes and sucks in the defender (leading to way too many illegal screen calls)

      True, but it's run pretty accurately if though a play or series. There's plenty of quick-action PnR plays that you can use.

        I've seen the computer do this. If you wait they "should" rotate to a box and wait for the ball.

        I want for them to just map pick and roll/pick and pop actions to the AI screener.

        A screener isn't told to roll every time like 2k has it. You have to read the defense. Sometimes I just want my bigman to wait at the freethrow line for an easy pick and pop midrange shot but they never do. That makes every big with a good midrange, no three, and mediocre athleticism less effective.

        I have David West in MyTeam, if I could tell him to pop for midrange jumpers my offense would be so much better. But the pick and pop forces him to go to the 3 point line :/

          Couldn't agree more. I've done mostly cpu streams and sims but the screens are never set properly and it just kills time off of the shot clock. It's awful to watch.

          It seems to work ok whenever I play manually, although sometimes the screen man never rolls despite me telling him to do so.

            Can we go back to being able to set screens facing the direction we choose and not a random direction the game chooses us to face?

              One of the things I have noticed is that against the AI you have to run the PnR at a fairly slow pace; you quite literally have to take a small step or dribble move then wait until the animation where the defender is trying to fight through the pick by the pick before initiating the rest of the play.It also seems to work a little better if you lay off the turbo until this "hung up by the pick" animation plays as well.

                  The screens also take forever to take place and the game engine will change the position of the screen you want your teammate to set regardless of your input. There’s been countless times where the screener takes forever, unnecessarily bouncing into defenders instead of taking the easiest and most obvious route to the ball handler or I call for a screen to the right and the game will randomly switch it to a screen on the left side wasting even more time to get the play executed.

                    Players have very little idea of where they are on the court, let alone where other players are.

                    They need to have an awareness of their position on the court relative to the basket, and a cone of vision so they dont navigate like unbalanced toddlers. Even on defence Cs will have their back turned to the paint.

                    Pick and roll offense and defense is nasty.

                    The screen setter will set the slowest most uneffective screen, miss, and stand there for 6 more seconds, facing the wrong direction, and then bump into every player on the court before going to stand directly underneath the basket.

                    The defender most times will somehow end up between the setter and the halfcourt line instead of between the defender and the basket, and then they'll proceed to waddle, like they ran out of TP and they're alone in the house, all the way to the paint.

                      And, close to the end of nba 2k19, still the Pick and roll overlay Shows the wrong Side from where the Pick will be Set. if i call for a Pick on the left, it will Show a Pick from the right and the other way round. it is so Hard to just swap two images, right?

                        It's really not that hard to use a screen...

                        How about this for an idea? Try not to use it on every possession. I really have no interest making something more OP than what it is now. Fix it so the DEFENDER is no longer sucked into the screener, then maybe...just maybe I'll understand the "need" to fix it.

                          As a Sim player, I believe that both sides of the PnR need to addressed, though IMO there are more issues on the defensive end than the offensive end .

                          The pin down screen especially frustrates me: even with me seeing the pin down screen coming + using a good defender(attribute wise) + having above average speed and strength for my position + Gold Pick Dodger badge I still get sucked into the screener a good 75% of the time.

                            I don't know what's the problem on the offensive side. I call a screen, pick fade/roll, select the side, then hit the screen when defender is set. Sometimes it works, sometimes it don't depending on the defense.

                            What I have been seeing in PNO games is people will call for a screen 2-3 times in the same possession then get upset when the game finally calls an illegal screen. IMHO, the game has been dumbed down where people only want to call screens to create offense when there are SOOOOOOO many options to create good looks with the freelances and play calling. The offball action is crazy in this game, but most people just want to play hero ball.

                              On the offensive side, IMO it's mostly some AI pathing issues and sometimes just plain taking too long to set up the PnR when the defensive isn't actively denying it.

                              Being an offline sim player who tries to realistically play within the team's system and not go overboard with my personal FGA's, I don't really run into issues with playcall cheesing; I will agree that people who just call the PnR over and over every trip down the floor should get shut down just as they would IRL.
