    Madden 20 Review (SoftDrinkSports)

Not sure if they're being a bit harsh. But certainly disappointing.

He brings up a few thing I definitely agree with, mainly all of the missing pieces of franchise mode. I don't think the gameplay is as bad as he makes it out to be, but I do think CFM and the additions we go to it this year are just depressing. Presentation is also obviously very low on their priority list which is another knock to the game.

I'd give the game a 6.5 out of 10. The gameplay on the field is fun, the locomotion has its flaws, but it does look really good at times. The passing game has gotten better, though I do think the two-man animations are painfully bad more often than not. I still think the trajectories need to be tweaked even more like he even said.

The gameplay on the field is not where most of my complaints lie. My issues are that CFM is so barren. It's just bad and there is no other way to put it. The presentation is the same. Both are so vanilla compared to other sports games these days and it takes a lot of enjoyment out of the game for me. I'll probably spend more time in MUT this year than franchise mode simply because CFM and the presentation are so bad, not because I love MUT.

I love football and the gameplay on the field is good enough like I've said, so I will come back and play the game. Modding it on PC will also add to the value, but overall the game is just lacking way too much depth for me to really give it any better of a rating.

If you want my personal opinion, we know EA's game development is heavily driven by marketing.

Madden 20 was an opportune time to hone gameplay rather than presentation. Here's why:

Last year of a console generation by itself. You're not going to blow anyone out of the water with graphics at this point in the generation as a back of the box feature. Good graphics and good presentation feed off each other. This year was a great time to solidify gameplay and hype it up, as this gameplay is likely what will get ported to the next gen PS5, Scarlett systems next year as teams grapple with how to develop on the new systems.

In the meantime, the marketing guys next year can tout new graphical power and immersion as part of moving towards the next generation. Presentation would go right in hand there as a back of the box feature for "even more immersive worlds."

Given how much I loved the Beta, I'm going to love Madden 20. Couldn't agree more about franchise and presentation needing to make your leagues feel more alive. I'm just saying from EA's business perspective (though I may disagree), it makes perfect sense as to what was chosen to be improved this year.

I wasn't a fan of that intro but you missed what many feel about Madden as a series.

I’m not sure it’s agenda driven. I think it shows his level of frustration...being fair and frustrated aren’t mutually exclusive. I haven’t played 20 yet. Someone who has tell me why he’s wrong.

I’ve played one game so far too early for conclusions from me. However from the jump it’s clear there’s an agenda. I’ll wait for unbiased opinions. Have no desire to give these clowns any of my time.

I’ll give you that the skit gives off the impression you stated but as I watched the review everything he said about the series in general up until 19 was about 95% correct in my mind. Again, haven’t played 20 so his critique of it I can’t say yet. But critique until 20 tells me it ain’t just agenda.

And I am someone who roots for this game to be so good every year, no EA hatred as my default....

Added review source to thread title, as I assume people would be interested to know.

The source is particularly relevant in this case because this is the same YouTube channel that published such fair-and-balanced videos as "The Fall of the Madden NFL Series", "Madden NFL 08 was the last great Madden game", and "NFL 2K5 is the Greatest Sports Game Ever".

By no means do I expect so-called objective video game reviews - no such thing exists, a review is subjective by definition - but given what I know about the Madden NFL community, I'm pretty sure this guy is one of the loud few still grinding an obscenely large axe and broadcasting that grudge via megaphone to anyone who is still around to listen.

To that end, I don't think his opinion about Madden is particularly valuable to anyone in the Madden community. It's certainly of no value to me.

I just played my first preseason game in Madden with the Redskins. A few of my guys are in position battles and are pissed about it but their morale is still up. Im interested to see how things shake out. Competition brings the best out of you...go figure! My starters are only playing the first half before the game takes them out. I started my second preseason game and played til the end of the 1st quarter. I ended up getting sleepy so I saved it and went to bed. I look forward to picking up where I left off tonight. Oh, the Tony Bruno show is a nice touch too.

I enjoyed those. He's very nostalgic about the ps2 Madden Games. A lot of people are. Even if he's a little overdramatic, he's not wrong. There needs to be more people being vocal about it's lackluster franchise mode.

Honestly, he just convinced me to stick to NCAA 14.

He was honest about 2 things that I was most concerned about, franchise and "superstar mode". I played through a little of franchise today, and yes i do like the visual stuff, but it's the same. Nothing will keep this from getting stale by November as 19 did. Once he said the superstar mode kicks into a CFM type experience, with nothing after the initial fluff, that there was another nail in the coffin.

To think, my beloved Madden 06 superstar mode is STILL better, is sad. I played the hell out of that mode, and barely touched franchise that year. Man, i wish I could find rosters for it lol

I know no one cares, but I am convinced on not buying it. My $60 wont matter, but maybe someday it will get better.
