    CPU Refused to Kick FG

Just had one of the best, most enjoyable and most realistic games yet with a bizarre ending.

I took a one point lead just after the two minute warning vs Chicago. They get the ball back and get into FG range with a 1st down. They take their second timeout with 10 seconds left, but their offence stays out. They run their play and its an incomplete pass. Their offence still stays out with like 7 seconds left so I take a timeout. They come back out in Hail Mary Trips and throw an incompletion from like the 27 yard line and run out the clock.

I've seen the CPU run time down with timeouts but have never seen this before.

Yeah, end of game CPU logic is majorly flawed.

I've had this happen (3) times so far out of my (7) CFM games, all at halftime.

Team is within FG range (30 yards or under), calls their last timeout with anywhere from 10-20 seconds left. They run another play for some reason - get tackled - time expires.

While I'm glad they didn't score lol the logic behind the CPU time management needs to be addressed.

Yeah I've seen it too, one timeout left and the cpu lets the clock run out in field goal range. End of half/game logic needed work before this year but they seem to have taken a step backwards

Classic example of a bug that has not existed in any other previous Madden game introduced to this one for inexplicable reasons, as if nobody actually plays the game versus the CPU prior to release.

This bug has happened to me in previous Madden a few times.

I’m encountering this as well. During gameplay I’d say this and also the cpu qb dropback going 20+ yards and taking a sack are the two more annoying aspects to experience.

Make sure if not already done to report these in the bug thread and let's hope they address it.

Honestly, though, I think that's awesome if the CPU decided to go that route. I mean, we've seen coaches do some stupid stuff before. Going for a 2 PT conversion to win the game (down by 1) and losing? If that'd happen in Madden, we'd all be saying "it's a bug!"

Weird stuff, I like seeing this.

I reported this issue, as did others, immediately on the "Bugs and Glitches" thread. This is a game-breaking bug for those folks playing vs. CPU and will hopefully be addressed sooner rather than later. Disappointed that this game is not tested more carefully regarding User vs. CPU experience.

This is the difficulty of differentiating real life and a video game, isn't it?

In real life, teams can bring in an extra offensive tackle at TE and throw them the ball, especially off of a play action fake, and he is left wide open and unaccounted for. Especially if the offense runs a "tackle over" concept and the starting LT reports as eligible and lines up where he normally would. As a 49ers fan, Joe Staley has done this a few times.

In Madden? The defenders are not confused as to who to cover in a man alignment or when somebody enters their zone... at least not any more than any other player. you will never trick the video game AI. However, if you could, you would easily be able to exploit it and have problems online.

This is pretty much the same with the Philly special. If they program it to not account for the QB, then it is exploitable. if you do, then you cannot really pull off the philly special magic.

The fake spike is more of the same. The AI will never just stand around against a spike formation unaware, and if they did, what would stop players from calling fake spike all game long online?

As for the topic of the thread, yeah... in real life coaches have done dumb things, but it is important that the AI knows how to play correctly and have maybe a random chance of making one of several questionable calls of a branching list of options. For example, roll a die. On 1-99 or 98 or whatever, do the right thing. but on 99 or 100, go for it or go for 2.

I remember a story of Marty Schottenheimer and how he either went for 2, or went for it on 4th and goal from the 2 or the 1 and he said that if his team couldn't convert, then they did not deserve to win.

I still support Belichick going for it on 4th and 2 against the Colts. That Pats defense was not stopping the Colts, and punting was not going to change the outcome, but a conversion would have run the clock down to 2 minutes and the colts were out of time outs. Pats kneel and it was game over if they got 2 yards. Also, we saw what Butler did to the Seahawks. even though the pats failed on 4th and 2, and Manning's Colts were "unstoppable", there was still that chance Manning could have messed up or a fluke would have helped. Also, it was a regular season game and the result decided the #1-3 seeds. 2 yards could have resulted in HFA. You gotta go for it.

I played a game as the Bucs vs the Titans. I was up 10-9 with about 1 minute left. Titans had the ball in the red zone with 2 time outs left. I had 0. Logic would be that they kneel or run a couple times, take a time out and kick the game winning field goal..... They come out throwing, completing passes, and then doing a hurry up offense to throw again. It ended up working out as they scored a TD and got the 2 point conversion to go up 17-10 with about 20 seconds left..... still dumb and stupid though
