A New Era of College Football-NCAA14

    Intro

For many of you my username might look familiar. I have been around the boards since 2007, starting with College Hoops. Career changes and new hobbies took me away from posting threads the past couple of years, but with winter coming outside and yet another job change, and the fact that I have come to realize we will never get College Football or Basketball on the XBOX One, has led me to bring the 360 out of retirement.

I am old school (probably cause I am old, 43 this Feb) so don't expect to see lots of great graphics with Photoshop and capture cards and what not. This tread will be pretty basic, but I have found that it's become impossible for me to be able to play a coaching dynasty without sharing it with someone. I will try my best to give you enough info to feel like you can be invested and feel its worth you time to stop, read and follow along.

My plan for my posts will be more of as a sports/media member of the school then as one of the actual coaches. So instead of me getting a job offer to go from a Offense Coordinator or DC to a Head Coach, my plan is to stay at a school until I feel a desire to play with someone else, then it would be my character getting a new opportunity to report on that new team.

I am pretty sure I have the school picked up that I will start with. My plan is to play probably at least half the games with the other half being simmed, but I will still report on them based on how I feel the game played out in my head. If the school manages to make a conference championship or bowl game I will most likely always play those.

    Settings

    Roster
I am running with original rosters with auto name. I might occasionally make a reference about a player actually being similar to their real life counterpart. But I don't plan on using real names in my posts other then referencing Coaches.

    Recruiting

I can recruiting anyone who has my current team interest at a Top-3 team regardless of location at the start of the season.

I can recruit anyone who is a 3* or less if they are in a Pipeline State or in my Top-5 at the start of the season and I can recruit 1 and 2* recruits if they are in neighboring states in which I am trying to setup as Pipeline states.

Player scouting will the following week of a players visit to the campus.

    GAMEPLAY SETTINGS
It's been 2 years since I have played this game, on a regular basis, so I will most likely be looking at current threads to build my slider and gameplay settings from, to give me a challenging game.

I am going to be doing a massive ReAlignment of Conference and Divisions. There will be no more Power 5 Conferences.. My next post will be that ReAlignment process.

I then will be gone for the weekend, so i won't have any game posts most likely until next week.

Looking forward to spending some time on the boards again and playing some football. I have missed it. As always comments are appreciated.

As a fellow 43 year old, I'm going to live vicariously through your dynasty until I catch a break from life to have one of my own. LOL Currently coaching an elementary basketball team, 11-12 year old fall baseball team, and attending son's middle school soccer games and practices. Nearly every free second of time that I have outside of work is wiped. I'm going to count on your dynasty to get me through until late this month when I will finally have time to dive into one of my own.

Re: A New Era of College Football-NCAA14

The Landscape of College Football is changing. The Power 5 is no more. Boise State fan’s won’t have to wonder what would happen if they had a chance to join the Pac-12/14.. College football buffs will no longer be able to argue if the Big Ten is better then the SEC. The Big 12 will now get to decide who really is the best team in Texas. That right folks College Football will never be the same.

No conference was left untouched in this year realignment process… 125 teams have a home with Old Dominion as the only team left in the Independent Conference. Here is a look at the new conferences. Divisional names are still being discussed (open to suggestions)

          The New Pac-12
          Division 1
Fresno State, San Diego State, San Jose State, Hawaii, UNLV, Nevada

“These schools have a lot of history playing one another from their days in the WAC and MW Conferences. Now the question is who will rise to the top and challenge for a Pac-12 title each year?”

          Division 2
USC, Stanford, Cal, UCLA, Arizona and Arizona State

“6 of the original Pac-12 teams stay former a super division and to keep rivalries intact. Will it be USC and Stanford battling it out each year or will someone else make a move”

          The New Mountain West
          Division 1
Oregon, Oregon State, Idaho, Boise State, Washington and Washington State.
“Can the Broncos keep pace with the likes of the Ducks and Huskies. What does this do for recruiting?”

          Division 2
Utah, Utah State, BYU, Colorado, Colorado State, Air Force
“Ins-tate rivalries just went up a notch, fans are loving the new season ticket plans that include both home and away games.”

The Pac-12 and Mountain West will always be linked together as both these Conferences Champions now meeting in the Rose Bowl each year.

The New Big 12 (the Lonestar Conference)
Texas Football is considered to be the best in the nation. Now we will know who is the best in Texas.

          Division 1
Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, N. Texas, UTSA, Texas State
“With the Aggies move out of the SEC, and into a conference with Texas and TTU things are heating up”

          Division 2
          Houston,Baylor,SMU,Rice,UTEP,TCU

“Another grouping of teams who have a lot of past history together. If Rice and UTEP can build a couple decent recruiting class’s this horse race could be won by anyone.”

          The New Big Ten (now14)

          Division 1
Michigan State, Michigan, Minnesota, Penn State, Wisconsin, Ohio State and Notre Dame
“On Paper this has to be the best division in college football”

          Division 2
Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Kansas, Kansas State, Tulsa, Wyoming
“Will this just be a 2 team race eacher year with the Sooners and Huskers? Or will someone step up?”

The Big 12 and Big 10/14 Champions will face off against each other in the Fiesta Bowl.

          The new CUSA

          Division 1
Kent State, Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan, Western Michigan, Ball State and Northern Illinois

“Former members of the MAC keep some rivalries going well now getting a chance to face off against some much bigger competition and a spot in a major bowl game”

          Division 2
Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State, Purdue, Northwestern, Indiana

“Former Big 10 schools keep some rivalries intact well also putting themselves in position to start winning some conference titles.”

          The New American
Southern Miss, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Louisville, Kentucky, W. Kentucky

Tennessee, Mid Tennessee State, Memphis, Missouri, Vanderbilt

“only 11 teams, with 5 from the Old SEC. Fee like both divisions have good balance”

          The New MAC
Cincinnati, Miami OH, Toledo, Bowling Green, Akron, Temple, Ohio make up the Mid Division

With Boston College,UConn,Umass,Buffalo,Syracuse and Rutgers making up the Atlantic Division

“Right now the BCS Committee has decided that if the MAC can produce better football teams (ranked or better ratings) then those teams in the American or CUSA, the MAC will have a opportunity to grab a spot in the Orange Bowl, until then the Champions of the American and CUSA will face off in the Orange Bowl each year”

The new look ACC will now play the new look SEC in the Sugar Bowl each year. Here is a look at those 2 conferences before we finish out with the SunBelt.

          ACC
          Division 1
Navy, Pitt, Maryland, Virginia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and Marshall

          Division 2
Clemson, South Carolina, ECU, Duke, Wake Forest, UNC, NC State

“Basketball fans are in tears now if this is the new look ACC, but from a Football standpoint, it’s more balanced. The question is will someone emerge to give Clemson a challenge in the Title game or is it a given Clemson will play in the Sugar Bowl every year?”

          The New SEC
          Division 1
Florida, Florida State, Miami FL, UCF, USF, FIU, FAU
“Who will be crowned the best in Florida?” Will UCF make the jump, will Miami return to their glory days?”
          Division 2
Georgia, Georgia Tech, Georgia State, LSU, Alabama, Auburn, South Alabama
“LSU, Georgia, Alabama, Auburn continue to keep SEC football amongst the nations best.”

And Finally the New Sun Belt.

          UL Layfette
          UAB
          Troy
          La Tech
          UL Monroe

          New Mexico
          New Mexico State
          Arkansas
          Arkansas State
          Tulane

"Rumors are Arkansas was hit with a 3 year recruiting penalty, and in the process lost their spot in the SEC to South Alabama. If the Razorbacks can prove they can win and become a viable team again, then they will be reinstated back into the SEC taking the place of South Alabama"

Re: A New Era of College Football-NCAA14

History.. Typically when it comes to a Top-25 Preseason Poll, history comes into play. How did the team do the year before, does the school have a tradition of Top-25 finishes. Who won the National Title, how many players are returning, Who had the best recruiting class.

Well here is a look at this year's Top-25. Now the question is will these teams be able to duplicate history. Will schools like Boise State continue their reign in the Top-25 polls in the new look Mountain West. What about UCF will they become a power in the SEC. or what about schools like Louisville who now find themselves one of the best teams in the American.

Alabama starts the year off in the #1 spot. The Tide are coming off a SEC Championship and National Title and SR QB Luke Johnson is a lock to be drafted in the 1st Round of the NFL draft and is a Top-5 Preseason Heisman pick.

The Ohio State Buckeyes are #2. Like Alabama, the Buckeyes will rely on Heisman hopefull JR QB Cam Brown to lead the way. Most NFL scouts fill like Brown is most likely a WR at the next level but in the college game, he is one of the most explosive players on the field when he has the ball.

Stanford starts the year at #3. The Cardinals are coming off a Pac-12 title but havn't won a National title since 1940.

Texas A&M is #4. Like the Tide and Bucks, the Aggies have one a Top-5 Heisman hopeful under center. SO QB Gene Kirkly can do it all. He runs he throws and he party's. Most NFL Scouts feel he will be in the league less then 3 years if he can't control is off the field issues.

The Georgia Bulldogs are #5. Georgia hasn't won a SEC title since 2005 and their only National Title came back in 1980, but with a avg attendance of 92,000+, they are one of the toughest places to play in the nation.

The Oregon Ducks are #6 and have to be a favorite to win the new Mountain West. Like 3 schools ranked ahead of them, they have one of the nations best at QB. SO Ken Fisher comes from the Big Island of Hawaii, and has NFL scouts drooling over his potential at the next level.

Notre Dame starts the year at #7. The Irish have zero Conference titles in school history, but do have 11 National Titles to their resume, with the last coming back in 1988. Now in the Big Ten, the Irish boasts one of the hardest schedules in college football including matchups with 6 Top-25 opponents including #16 Oklahoma State, #19 Michigan and #22 Nebraska the first 3 weeks of the season.

South Carolina comes in at #8. The Gamecockz start the year with 7 games against non Top-25 opponents but a road trip in Week 9 to Georgia and a home battle with instate rival Clemson in Week 14 will be the test on where or not they can earn their first ACC title since 1969.

Clemson is #9. The Tigers will be looking for their 15th ACC title and look to challenge for a National Title something they havn't won since 1981.

Florida rounds out the Top-10. The Gators have 3 N.C.'s in school history but the last being 2008 also the last time they won the SEC. Can they end a 5 year drought.

Louisville is #11. The Cardinals will rely on Heisman hopeful JR QB Greg Harris to lead them to a 7th Conference title and hopefully break their current record of 8-8 in bowl games.

LSU is #12. The Tigers have a history of titles. 12 SEC Championships as well as 3 National Titles. They also boast the title as one of the toughest places to play in college football with over 92,000 fans packing the stands every week.

Oklahoma is #13. The Sooners have 44 Big 12 titles in school history and have won 7 National Titles dating back to 2000. However now they are in a new look Big 12 with 6 games vs Top-25 opponents this year.

Florida State is #14. The Seminoles have 13 Conference Titles and 2 National Titles, but those were back in the day's of the ACC. Now in the SEC how will they fair in their Week 4 matchup vs #1 Alabama?

Texas is #15, Like many of the schools above them, the Longhorns have a history of winning. 30 Big 12 titles, 4 National Titles, but this year they have to get by #4 TAMU if they want to add to those #'s.

Oklahoma State is #16 only has 1 Conference Title in school history winning the Big 12 2 years ago. Now in the Big 10 I am not sure their chances got any easier.

TCU starts the year at #17. The Horn Frogs have 16 Conference Titles and actually own 2 National Titles with the last back in 1938 but with the move to the Big 12, the Frogs will face 4 Top-25 opponents including #4 TAMU as well as #11 LSU and #12 Oklahoma in non-conference games.

Boise State starts the year at #18. The Broncos have made a name for themselves in the history books and despite only 35K at Bronco Stadium the Blue Turf has become known as one of the toughest places to play in college football.

Michigan is #19. The Wolverines have 42 Conference Titles and 7 National titles to their resume. Over 100k fans show up every week making The Big House the toughest place to play in college football. But this year all 4 of Michigan's Top-25 opponents on the schedule are away games including #2 OSU in Week 14

UCLA is #20. The Bruins have 17 Conference Titles to their name but the latest being 1998. They also have won a National Title but that was back in 1954.

Kansas State starts out #21. The Wildcats don't find themselves in the Top-25 often but coming off a Big 12 title and 11-2 season, K-State will hope that their success will carry over in their move to the New Big 10. However with 6 games vs Top-25 opponents this year, plus some very tough road opponents in Texas Tech, Minnesota and instate rival Kansas. It could be very hard to duplicate.

Nebraska is #22. The Cornhuskers have 43 Conference titles and 5 National titles in school history, but it's been over 14 years since their latest.

Oregon State is #23. Like K-State, you typically don't see the Beavers name associated with Top-25 rankings. OSU has 5 Pac-12 titles in school history but the last was 12 years ago. With Road games at Boise State and at Oregon, we don't expect to see the Beavers making it #6 this year.

Northern Illinois is #24. The Huskies are coming off a Conference Championship but that was in the MAC. Now in CUSA it's all ?????

Vanderbilt rounds out the Top-25 at #25. Vandy has never won a Conference title when playing in the SEC but now with the move to the American, one has to wonder. Their biggest challenge will be Louisville and maybe a road game against instate rival Tennessee.

SEC Central announces the hiring of Sports Reporter Ryne Young to the network staff. Young comes from a past history of covering sports on the West Coast, more specifically Boise State Football and Basketball.. With the SEC currently getting a major overall of new schools including a entire division of Florida schools, many wonder which school Young will be assigned to cover....

Ryne Young asks to cover Georgia State.

As a sports reporter covering and writing articles for the #126 ranked team in college football wouldn't be at the top of any persons career goals. But when Young learned that the Panthers who are in just their 4th year of playing football was hiring Deuce Vader as their new Head Coach, Ryne knew this was the team he wanted to follow.

You see Young and and Vader have history together as Vader comes from the Boise State Bronco coaching tree. A former player who joined the staff as a grad assistant, Vader worked his way up to Wide Receivers and Quarterbacks coach.

When asked why the Georgia State program hired such a young and inexperienced coach, school A.D. Pepper Wolf said this "This young man Bleeds Blue and that's what we want from our players and from our fans. We see no reason why Georgia State can't duplicate the type of success Boise State has had on and off the field"

The Boise State "Bleed Blue" mentality is just that. Hard Blue collar work ethic and Vader plans to install that in his new program Day 1.

                  GEORGIA STATE 2013 MEDIA GUIDE

                  ROSTER

                  Coach Vader takes over a program 68 players including 22 Seniors,15 Juniors, 10 Soph's and 21 Freshman.

Coach Vadar knew coming in the first thing he wanted establish the fact the program would be built around 2 and 3* caliber players. They would look instate first and then work their way out to surrounding states, but their priority was looking for kids who wanted to Bleed Blue no matter what their star assigned grade said they were. Deuce also knew that a program like Boise State wasn't built overnight and sometimes even your best players have to redshirt.

So here is a look at the depth chart and roster for the upcoming season.

Starting QB- RS SO Chris Handy (70 OVR)
"Handy is a dual threat QB out of Athens Georiga. At 5'11 and 180 lbs he isn't the biggest player on the field but for a Panthers team lacking stars, he is one of their best"

Backup QB- RS SR Matt Mullins (69 OVR).
"Mullins like Handy is a dual threat. He doesn't have as strong of arm as Handy, but odds are you will see both QB's throughout the season"

Redshirt QB- SO Brandon Franklin (64 OVR)
"Franklin is what Handy and Mullins isn't.. He is big. 6'4 and 220lbs. He is a pocket passer and frankly on a team lacking player makers, Franklin likely doesn't fit the teams current needs, but he could see some action next season as the backup"

Starting RB-RS SR Josn Durbin (67 OVR)
"Durbin is more of a power back at 5'11 190lbs he isn't going to blow past all the defenders but instead will look to hit holes hard"

Backup RB-RS SR Leon Donaldson (65 OVR)
"Donaldson is smaller at 5'9 180 lbs. He will most likely see the bulk of his action on the kickoff and return teams"

Backup RB-JR Ryan Reynolds (63 OVR)
"Reynolds as the size and speed coaches look for. 6'2 195 lbs sub 4.6 40, expect Reynolds to see at least 5-10 carries a game and depending on how well Durbin does, he could push for more P.T."

Redshirt RB-FR Mike Bryan (61 OVR)
"6'0 220lbs, Bryan could be the future back Coach Vader needs. He will get plenty of opportunties next season with Durbin and Donaldson both set to graduate"

Starting FB-RS JR Derek Griffin (67 OVR)
"Griffin has solid size 6'0 215 lbs and pretty decent speed (78). I would expect to see him get some carries around the goal line."

Redshirt FB-FR Stevie Deloach (61 OVR)
"Deloach is most likely a special teams player and nothing more but he could work his way into a starting role 2 or 3 years down the road"

Starting WR-SR Sam Brown (74 OVR)
"Brown is by far the best talent on the team. Scouts say he reminds them of Miami Dolphins WR Albert Wilson. Even though he is just 5'9, Brown has a knack for making big plays both as a return man and as a WR."

Starting WR-RS SR Jeff Reed (68 OVR)
"Well Brown is little, Reed is the opposite. At 6'4, Reed will be Handy's red zone target guy"

Starting WR-JR Jordan Rodgers (65 OVR)
"Rodgers is a clone of Brown just not quite as fast despite being 20lbs lighter. Rodgers will play the bulk of his time out of the slot"

                  #4 WR-JR Loren Malone (63 OVR)
"At 6'2 Malone will give the Panthers another bigger target in 4 reciever sets."

Redshirt WR's- FR M. Wright (63 OVR) and FR A. Adkins (62 OVR)
"Both players have the potential for massive playing time next season. Adkins is a Reed clone at 6'4 well Wright is similar build to Malone at 6'2"

Starting TE-RS JR Leon Pitts (66 OVR)

"At 6'5 250 lbs, Pitts provides a huge target over the middle. He also has pretty solid hands (72) and decent speed for a bigman (76). With Coach Vader installing a similar play style of Boise State I expect Pitts to see alot of action"

Backup TE-RS JR Jordan Jackson (60 OVR)
"Like Pitts Jackson is big 6'5 235 and like Pitts he has some wheels (70)" He should see plenty of PT in 2 TE sets"

                  Redshirt TE's-FR R. Hunt (61 OVR) and FR A.J. Blair (60 OVR)
"Both players are similar build and skill sets. Blair is actually the biggest at 6'6 265."

                  O-Line
                  LT-SR T. Parks (66), LG- JR C. Smith (66), C-SR M. Davis (65), RG-SR K. Harrell (66), RT-SR W. Charles (65)
"With 4 of the starting 5 set to graduate, Coach Vader will need to focus alot of time and Recruiting points on future O-Line man. Currently 4 Freshman are redshiritng but only Guard P.J. Billings (63) projects as a possible starter.

                  D-Line
                  LE-SR B. Williams (67) RE-JR C. Mitchell (66), DT-SR C. Nixon (72)
"The Panthers plan to run a 3-3-5 Defense so these 3 make up the starting line. Nixon is a Impact player on "D" and will be looked to squash the opponents run game. Williams has great speed (80) and will look to be the Panthers primary pass rusher.

                  Linebackers
                  LOLB-SO D. Wilson (70), MLB-SR P. Kramer (70), ROLB-SR M. Barnes-(66)
"Wilson is the leader of this unit despite being the youngest. Expect him to lead the team in tackles"

                  Secondary
                  CB-SR R. McCoy (66), CB-SR R. Hill (66), FS- SR A. Cohen (65) SS-SR M. Goff (65), Nickle-SR R. Rice (60).
"With all 5 starters set to graduate this is another huge need for the Panthers this season in recruiting"

                  KICKING/PUNTING
                  PK-SO S. Watson (73 OVR) and Punter-JR A. Johnson (73 OVR)
"Watson I believe has a future in the NFL- He reminds me of Saints kicker Will Lutz"

                  Schedule

The Panthers will open up the 2013 season with 2 straight home games against former Sun Belt members Texas State and Arkansas State before traveling in Week 3 to take on #9 Florida and then another Top-25 battle against #24 Northern Illinois in Week 4.

After a Week 5 bye week, GSU will open up SEC play at home vs #1 Alabama before taking on #5 Georgia in Week 7.

The Panthers then have home games vs Auburn and FAU before traveling to take on Miami FL and Georgia Tech. GSU will then play #11 LSU at home the day before Thanksgiving before ending SEC Play @ South Alabama.

Coach Vader "I know the schedule looks tough and I know not alot of people are even giving us a chance at a .500 record let alone just trying to get 4 wins, but I think we will surprise some folks"

                    PANTHERS FALL IN VADER'S DEBUT

Report is brought to you by Ryne Young of the SEC Network and Panther Football..

Coach Deuce Vader's debut as the Panthers new Head Coach was not what anyone expected.. At the beginning of the season, most felt like the Texas State game was one that the Panthers could and needed to win.

GSU took a 10-7 lead in the 1st Quarter behind the solid play of QB Chris Handy 7/12 for 69 yds and a TD, but Handy was forced to leave the game early in the 2nd Quarter leaving it to backup QB M. Mullins to lead the way.

Mullins helped move the ball down the field along with the help of RB J. Durbin who carried the ball 10 times for a team high 60 yds but stalled drives ended up 3 Field opportunties and Soph S. Watson missed all 3..

The Panther D however held strong and kept the Bobcats out of the endzone and off the scoreboard as GSU takes the 10-7 lead into the half.

The 3rd Quarter however was all Texas State.. QB J. Herron kept the ball inside the 5 yd line to score giving TSU the lead (14-10) and then a 29 yd pass to E. Wilson with 2:28 to play made it 21-10.

Mullins would manage to put the Panthers on the scoreboard early in the 4th quarter with a 8 yd keeper to make it 21-17. Then 4 minutes later GSU cuts into the lead yet again as Waton makes up for his earlier 3 miss's with a 35 yd FG to make it 21-20).

Texas State however would answer back with under 5 minutes to play with a A. Perry 5 yd TD run to make it (28-20).

With Handy out and the passing game struggling, GSU would go back to the ground attack as Mullins and Durbin set up what hoped to be a game tying drive. Durbin would find the endzone with 2:41 to play on a 3 yd run to finish the day with 16 carries and 73 yds plus the TD. Down (28-26) with under 3 minutes to play, Coach Vader decided the best option was to try and go for the 2pt conversion in hopes to tie the game. Worse case they miss it and the Panthers are forced to try and get the ball back and win it on the leg of S. Watson.

Mullins lined up in the Pistol with 4 WR and Pitts lined up off the ball. Mullins would hit SR J. Reed on a slant pattern but the ball was knocked away at the last minute leaving the Panthers down by 2.

Still armed with all 3 timeouts the Panthers could only hope the Defense still had gas in the tank, but the Bobcats were not taking any chances as they turn to their ground game to eat up valuable time off the clock.

Forced to burn their timeouts, the Panthers were left facing a 3rd and 3, the Bobcats converted and the ball game was over....

                    FINAL SCORE TX STATE-28 GSU-26

                    QB C. Handy-7/12 69 yds 1 TD
                    QB M.Mullins 15/29 177 yds 10 carries 24 yds 1 TD
                    RB J. Durbin-16 carries 73 yds (4.5 Avg) 1 TD
                    WR S. Brown-5 rec 80 yds
                    WR J. Reed-6 rec 46 yds
                    TE L. Pitts-4 rec 56 yds 1 TD

                    OLB M. Barnes 11 Tackles 4 solo 2 TFL .5 Sack
                    PK S. Watson 2/5 FG 2/2 XP

Young after the game with Coach Vader..

Young- Coach is Handy going to be ready to go next week against Arkansas State. What's the extent of his injury.

Vader-To be honest Ryne we don't know yet. He told me he felt he could go back in, but our season is to young to potentially hurt the kid. I felt like Mullins still gave us a chance to win it, even at the end, but some mistakes cost us.

Young-Coach S. Watson missed 3 FG's in the 2nd Quarter, how did you feel about knowing it might come down to another kick late in the game for a win.

Vader-We have alot of confidence in "Watts". The kid is still young, but I know he will end up probably being one of the best kickers when he leaves this school in 3 years.

Young-Coach you got Arkansas State next week. They didn't play this week, do you think that will be a advantage to them or you?

Vader-To be honest I don't know. I know we are not happy with the outcome today, and honestly I feel like we are going to be more hungry.. Next week is another game I feel like we will need to win if we have any shot at a .500 record this year.

                      PANTHERS GET WIN #1!!!

After a heartbreaking loss on a failed 2pt conversion in Week 1 vs Texas State, the Georgia State Panthers managed to secure Deuce Vader his first career win as a Head Coach.

Arkansas State won the toss and elected to kick. After leaving the game midway through the 1st Quarter in last week's loss, SO QB C. Handy came out strong connecting on his first 4 pass's to help set up a 3 yd TD run by SR RB J. Durbin to give GSU the 7-0 lead.

ASU ties the game on a D. Clark 15 yd TD run after going for it on 4th and 5 early in the 2nd Quarter, but GSU again answers back as Handy hit's 6'4 J. Reed on a 9 yd slant to make it (14-7). The Panthers extend the lead to (17-7) after S. Watson connects on a 35 yd FG.

Neither team would find the endzone in the 3rd as both teams trade INT's..
Early in the 4th, Handy looks to duplicate his earlier success with Reed, the the ASU defense was ready picking off the SO QB in the endzone for a 3rd time.

With the passing game struggling, Coach Vader turns to his SR RB James Durbin to carry the rock a career high 31 times, and Durbin used those carries to set a new school record. With 2:45 Durbin found the endzone to extend the lead to (24-7). The Redwolves answer back with 45 seconds left to make it (24-14).

But Durbin wasn't done. After ASU failed to recover the onside kick, Durbin took his 31th carry to the endzone for this 3rd score of the day and a new school record.

                      FINAL SCORE GSU 31 ASU-14

                      KEY PLAYERS
Handy finishes the day 20/29 for 285 yds with 1 TD and 3 INT
Durbin finishes with 117 yds on his 31 carries and 3 TD
                      L. Pitts leads the team with 6 catches for 94 yds
                      S. Brown finishes with 4 rec for 42 yds
                      J. Reed finishes with 4 rec for 55 yds inlcuding his TD.

The Panthers will travel next week to Ben Hill Griffin Stadium to take on the #9 (2-0) Florida Gators.

                        AROUND THE NATION UPDATE

Only 2 weeks into the year and we already have some great stories.

Notre Dame started the year #7 but the move to the Big Ten has been less the kind to the Irish. In Week 1 they fell to Oklahoma State (24-21) and then in Week 2 Nebraska crushes them at home (37-10).

#19 Michigan survived a Week 1 scare vs Central Michigan (23-22), but the Wolverines were not so lucky in Week 2 as they fall (37-21) to UConn.

ND and Michigan were not the only new Big Ten members to struggle, as Penn State falls (37-10) to Kent State.

USC opened the year with a big Pac-12 win beating Hawaii (49-34) but the Trojans were not so lucky in Week 2 as they fall to Boston College in a non-conference matchup (31-28).

Boise State opened the year with a huge win in Week 1 as Coach Harsin and the Broncos defeated their former coach and mentor Coach Pete and the Washington Huskies (34-24).

The Mountain West also saw some early instate rivalry games early in the season as Utah beats Utah State (33-13) and Colorado beats Colorado State (27-24 in OT).

If Offense is your thing, then you might want to catch a replay of the Week 2 matchups of Oklahoma scoring 50 against Baylor in their (50-44) win in OT.

#1 Alabama starts strong with a (44-14) win over USF, well Oregon destroys Cal (56-21).

If you like nail biters, then check out #5 Georgia's 4th Quarter win over Florida State (34-28) well Florida takes instate rival Miami (36-32).

                          PANTHERS FAIL IN UPSET BID!!!

The Georgia State Panthers knew defeating the #9 Gators in the Swamp would be a battle from start to finish, but that didn't stop them from believing they could pull off the upset.

GSU won the opening toss and elected to kick but quickly got the ball as Gator's QB P. Bishop fumbles the ball on a key 3rd and 2 play and Georgia State would capitalize as SO QB C. Handy scores on a QB keeper to give the Panthers the lead (7-0) with 3:12 to play in the 1st.

Turnovers would plague both QB's on each of the next 2 series as both players throw INT's to end drives inside the redzone.

Georgia State was also dealt a huge blow early in the 2nd Quarter as star WR Steve Brown was carted off the field after a 12 yd punt return. It was later learned that Brown has dislocated his elbow and will miss the rest of the season.

Playing with very little depth at WR, Coach Vader inserted starting CB R. McCoy in as his 5th WR. McCoy who hasn't played offense since high school responded though catching a 4 yd pass from Handy to give the Panthers a (14-0) lead with 2:37 to play in the 1st half.

The Gators however are the #9 team in the nation for a reason, and Bishop is not as bad as he first appeared to be. The Gator QB first connects on a 18 yd scoring strike to TE J. Grigsby to make it (14-7) with 1:18 to play and then after a 4 and out by the Panthers, Bishop with 8 seconds in the half, hits WR E. Webb on a 56 yd bomb to tie the game (14-14) at the half.

Georgia State would retake the lead in the 3rd Quarter as J. Durbin rumbles in from 1 yd out to make it (21-14) but the Gators answer again as Bishop hits Grigsby again to tie the game (21-21).

GSU had a chance to retake the lead early in the 4th, but Handy's 2nd INT of the day ended the drive. Handy however would get another chance as the defense comes up with a big stop and this time Handy delivers hitting TE L. Pitts from 5 yds out to make it (28-21) with 6:07 to play in the game.

Florida however wasn't giving yet. HB C. Oliver finally finds some holes in the Panthers "D" and scores from 7 yds out. Then after yet another Handy INT the Gators take the lead (35-28) as Bishop finds L. Bell from 13 yds out.

Trailing for the first time in the game with just 3:20 to play GSU goes back to the air despite Handy's 3 INT, and again the SO cracks under the pressure as he throws into double coverage for his 4th INT of the day.

Despite leading with less then 3 minutes to play, Bishop wasnt ready to just run out the clock. the QB drops back and finds his favorite TE J. Grisby for a 3rd time with 2:24 to play putting the Gators up by 2 TD's. (42-28).

With less then 2 minutes to play GSU's only hope was a quick score and maybe a onside kick recovery.

QB C. Handy's day was over as the Soph goes to the sideline with SR M. Mullins taking over. Mullins would deliver completing 7/12 pass's for 113 yds including a 3 yd TD pass to J. Reed to make it (42-35) with 1:06 to play.

After a failed onside kick, the Panthers were left with their only hope of a quick 4 and out, with 3 timeouts still in play.

But Bishop wasn't done showing why he was a pre-season SEC 2nd team selection. The 6'4 JR QB connects on his 6th TD of the day on a 33 yd bomb to G. Martin to squash any hopes of a comeback.

                          FINAL SCORE #9 UF-49 GSU-35

After the game Ryne Young caught up with Coach Vader to discuss the loss.

Young-Coach you lost Steve Brown early who is a huge part of the offense. It seemed like after that, Handy really struggle to find a guy he could trust.

Vader-Brown's loss was a huge blow to our offense, But when a guy like Brown goes down that's when you just have to trust other guys will step up. Handy is a young QB. He still needs to grow and become a better QB.

Young-After Handy's performance and Mullins performance in that last drive, who do you see getting the start next week against #16 Northern Illinois.

Vader-We still have some time to decide but if I had to decide tomorrow, I feel Mullins deserves a shot.

Young- Josh Durbin had 25 carries for 78 yds and a TD. but the rest of the team managed -23 yds rushing. Do you feel like Durbin will last the season with that many carries after 31 the week before?

Vader-To be honest we want to get the other guy's involved more but for now Durbin's success makes it pretty hard to take him off the field.

Young-We don't talk about the Defense very often coach. How do you feel about their performance today

Vader-To be honest I saw a great team effort in the 1st half. So much so I honestly thought we had a chance at pulling off the upset. But in the 2nd half we just gave up to many big plays.

NEXT UP THE PANTHER WILL HEAD TO NORTHERN ILLINOIS TO TAKE ON THE #16 HUSKIES AS THEY LOOK TO GET BACK TO .500

                            PANTHERS GET UPSET #16!!!!

After failing to upset the #9 Gators last week on the road, the Panthers overcame a early deficit with 3 TD's in the 2nd Quarter to improve to 2-2 on the season behind the play of SR QB M. Mullins.

GSU would find the scoreboard early and often, as they opened the game with a 36 yd scoring strike from Mullins to J. Rodgers who is now the teams new #1 WR.

But NIU answers back first scoring on a 15 yd run by RB J. Jones and then again as QB M. Muhammad keeps it from 2 yds out.

GSU however would tie the game (14-14) as J. Durbin scores the first of 3 TD's on the day. Mullins would then connect with Rodgers for a 2nd time in the game to make it (21-14) before Durbin would add another TD with his 2nd score of the day making it (28-14) with less then a minute to play.

The Huskies were not waving the white flag yet though as Jones breaks off a 30 yd run to make it (28-21) at the half.

Durbin would make it (35-21) early in the 3rd Quarter with back to back runs of 20 yds and 7 yds.

The Huskies however would fail to find the endzone on back to back drives and instead were left to settle for FG's from 44 yds and 31 yds out, making it (35-27) as we head to the 4th.

Georgia State would also fail to convert on a 3rd and 3 leaving them a tough decision of going for it inside their 20 or settling for the FG. Vader make the call and sent in the kicking team as S. Watson connect from 23 yds making it (38-27) with 6 minutes to play.

Both teams would continue to struggle finding the endzone until finally with with less then a minute to play Mullins connects with TE L. Pitts on a 24 yd pass to make it (45-27).

Northern Illinois however wasn't giving up yet as Muhammed leads his team on a 6 play 77 yd scoring drive capped by a J. Jones 4 yd run. The Huskies would convert the 2pt conversion to make it (45-35), but with less then 30 seconds on the clock. This game was over..

Re: A New Era of College Football-NCAA14

Here is a look at the current Top-25 and how they have done in Weeks 3-5

Ohio State is #1. The Buckeyes are 4-0 with wins @ Wyoming and Wisconsin as well as home wins over a FCS School and Tulsa. OSU is currently avg over 51 points a week.

Georgia is #2. The Bulldogs survived a Week 2 scare defeating Florida State (34-28) and are sitting a a perfect 5-0 after a (38-28) win over #19 LSU. They now have a bye week until they face Georgia State in Week 7.

Texas A&M (3-0) has moved up to #3 after a (31-17) win over #20 Miss State and a commanding (56-20) win over Baylor on the road.

The (5-0) Oregon Ducks are #4. Oregon is loving their move to the MW picking up wins over BYU, Air Force and Colorado State. The Ducks schedule however will get harder at the end of the season with road games at #9 Stanford and #22 Boise State and the Civil War game on the road against #23 Oregon State.

(5-0) South Carolina is #5. The Game-****$$ are tearing up the ACC with wins at home vs Navy, Wake Forest and West Virginia as well as road wins over UNC and ECU.

Florida is #6 after improving to 5-0. The Gators survived the upset big by GSU and went on to crush FAU (42-28) and South Alabama (55-7) on the road. However they will get a much harder test as they take on (4-0) Tennessee next week (who is unranked for some reason)

Alabama sits at #7. The Tide lost their #1 ranking in a (49-32) loss to #18 Georgia Tech, but rebounded with a (38-14) win over UCF, as they sit at (3-1). They will take on Georgia State in Week 6.

Texas is #8 after a 4-0 start. The Longhorns opened the year with a (42-25) win over #24 Ole Miss, then beat UNC (35-3) before picking up Big 12 wins over SMU (48-10) and UTEP (28-14). They will put their perfect record on the line at home vs #12 Oklahoma next week

Stanford is #9. The Cardinals were as high as #3 in the nation, but a (37-17) loss to unranked Arizona State led to their fall and 4-1 record.

Notre Dame rounds out the Top-10 at #10. The Irish dropped their first 2 games of the season in Top-25 battles vs #17 Oklahoma State and #16 Nebraska, but have rebounded to win 3 straight with wins over Michigan, Minnesota and a Week 5 win over previous unbeaten #12 (3-1) Oklahoma..

The Irish however still face a very tough schedule with home games vs (4-1) USC and road games @ #1 Ohio State and #9 Stanford.
