2 realistic basketball ways to fix Pip

Pip has been a problem that has plagued 2k for years. I believe that the main problem with paint defense in 2k is the lack of consistent help defense, and defensive rotations.

A quick fix would be to make any defender in gap or leave autmatically help on drives to the rim. Players in tight and deny would stay home, and players in moderate would help depending on team scheme.

There could also be a poe labeled bigs help on drive, and one that says help off non shooters were the players helped off of players with a 74 and below 3 point rating.

This seems like something they could implement with the current tools in the game.

      Great post.
      1. How much is too much for PIP
      2. Playing against Tucker, Gordon, Harden, Green and Westbrook (ball handler) - who will u sag off?
Or Lopez, Middleton, Korver, Matthews and Giannis (ball handler) - pick one. I think Nick Nurse sag off Lopez as I notice Gasol hung around the paint Ll the time.

Re: 2 realistic basketball ways to fix Pip

I have a mixture of games, sometimes I can legit get low PIP games, even as low as 30 PIP in 12 minute quarters (custom sliders)- other times 60. I am in MyLeague, so it’ll vary. I play certain games, and only one game I didnt crack 100.

I am looking to somehow adjust my sliders so it’s a chore to score in the paint, need to figure it out:

        Currently my key sliders:

        Inside Shot Success: 40 (user/cpu)
        Close Shot Success: 40 (user/cpu)
        Layup Success: 46 (user/cpu)

        Inside Contact Freq: 100 (user/cpu)
        Driving Contact Freq: 100 (user/cpu)

        * Shot Contest Tendency: 100 (user/cpu)
        * Shooting Fouls: 85 (user/cpu
*** Realistic amount of shooting fouls, less PIP

        Attributes:
CPU all 60 (adjust according to skill)
User all 50 (adjust according to skill)
        except... (both user/cpu)
        Fatigue Rate 57
        Stamina 52
        Durability 35 [cosmetic]

        —————

Seems like a good base. I am on 18 though, but I’m pretty sure these would translate well on 2K20.

Its all about choosing how to die. Ha. If i want to help off of Lopez and let him shoot 10 to 15 threes that should be my choice. Ha. Its more realistic to have consistent options to prevent deficiencies in the game. As opposed to watching your bigs not help at all.

Teams average between 35 and 50 pip per game (Give or take).

I think fouls in general are too low, and 2K allows maybe 4-5 extra FGs per game to go into PIP compared to IRL NBA that would a foul.

I still think we need an auto foul button where we hack the arms of a guy about to dunk/lay in. That would be a basketball play and would reduce PIP.

But Rob the question you ask is basically pick your poison. I match up my big on their worst shooter and set it to leave him. This can be a Roberson, but it may be a decent shooter like PJ Tucker sometimes. It's why all teas are above 104ppg.

I think help D gets better every year, but I love your suggestion.

Lopez is shooting 36.5% last season. I'm not sure whats his 3pt rating or badges are but if the sliders work as it should be, he should be getting 5 out of 10 to 15 attempts. If we can take advantage of the miscues and attack in transition for easy baskets, we'll have a pretty good chance of winning the ball game.
So help defense does make sense in 2K.

Very good suggestions and seems pretty easy to implement and simplified.

I 100 percent agree. I have always wanted a hack while shooting button. It could be holding the steal and block button at the same time.

not a bad idea at all.

now here's the thing. as long as you would know that the lower Defensive IQ guys and lower defensive iq teams as a whole would still not do this properly MOST of the time. which would be very realistic since thats one of the reasons those teams lose in real life or those guys are not known as good team defenders in real life. its more of an IQ thing than anything else.

On the note of realistic basketball. What kind of settings are people using for the shot ?
User controlled on are they changing it to the players percentage. The default is user I believe.

Id rather my bigs do a Bad Boy Pistons foul animation everytime then have nobody rotate over on help D.

This is something we have been able to implement for a couple of years now. Defensive Settings are critical to gameplay and ACE needed to be drastically overridden in 2K19 to get defensive rotations right.

Most teams should be set to Gap or Moderate for Off-Ball Pressure, Drive Help should be Help & No Rotation, and Double Team Perimeter should be set to On Drive for teams that are set to Gap Off-Ball. I like to set On-Ball Pressure to Moderate as default and set Gap at the player level for slasher types.

If you’re in MyLeague w/ 30 team control then it’s not that hard to maintain the team based defensive settings. It would be a lot better if we had control in the base roster to set it at the coach level and never have to worry about it again.

even on tight, the players should help out on drives! only defenders tasked with playing deny defense should never help. everyone else is Part of the help rotation.

The main problems in this game is lack of ball movement, which in turn, causes lack of 3 pt shots. All the CPU wants to do is drive.
