    NHL 19 - Classic Teams

I'll have a major upgrade to my classic teams set this coming weekend for NHL 19 as 10 teams will be added. I'll update the teams on this OP. I'll also post spreadsheets for those wanting to use the info to create the teams for themselves. If you have invested in save wizard and wish to have my teams, just let me know and I'll post them in Media Fire. I hit the sweet spot with sliders for this version and I'm really enjoying it. I didn't play much last year due to getting the game late outta the bargain bin after Christmas and working on my classic teams.

Classic Teams - As of Jan. 6th, 2020
(All teams are under "Custom Teams" section except the ones marked with an *)

I've decided to set up a playoff with the best of the past decade against some of the great teams from the past. I've got the 1973-74 Bruins up against the 2017-2018 Capitals in one of my best of 7 quarter-final series.

My Bruins took the opener 4-0 at the Garden as Gilles Gilbert was unbeatable for the shutout. Boston was lead by the great Bobby Orr (my all-time sports idol) as Bobby potted a goal and added two assists. The Bruins leaned on their big line of Esposito-Hodge-Cashman with Hodge opening the scoring and Espo tipping in a powerplay marker to close the scoring. Check out my highlight pack below for game summary, goals and some of the key saves by Gilbert.

I've updated the OP with the teams that have been completed. Outside of the half dozen that I listed that I'm going to be working on next, there maybe a couple of more teams depending on how long it takes before I lose interest.

Here's another peek at my current quarterfinal playoff series. My 2010-11 Bruins beat the 1976-77 Canadiens in OT to take Game 1 at TD Garden. Patrice Bergeron scores late in the third. Michael Ryder outmuscled Serge Savard to tuck a puck that trickled through Ken Dryden's pads into the yawning cage for the game-winner.

Thanks! Unfortunately, you have to purchase save wizard in order to rename my profile as there is no roster sharing in NHL 19. Not sure you'd be interested in that as it costs 60 bucks. As for removing the helmets, if you select the caged college helmet and save the created player, you then go back to the player and select helmet - large visor and the helmet comes off.

Re: NHL 19 - Classic Teams

Just an update on my 1973-74 Bruins' quarterfinal series.

Boston took Game 2 with help of an unlikely offensive force. Gary Doak opened the scoring and sealed the victory with an empty netter. Doak played 69 regular-season games for the 1973-74 Bruins and never dented the mesh once.

              <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Jm61YN-Mfv8" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

In Game 3, the Bruins' Johnny Bucyk scored his second goal in as many games. "The Chief" is Boston's all-time goals scoring leader with 545 goals. Ken Hodge had the game-winner. Hodge had his only 50 goal season in 1973-74 to earn his second career all-star berth.

              <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/RZuSXL_vVZw" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Washington avoided elimination in Game 4 with a resounding offensive outburst led by Nicolas Backstrom who potted two goals to earn first star honors. The Capitals dominated in the third period scoring three times including a highlight reel between the legs marker by Evengy Kuznestov. Bucyk extended his goal scoring steak to three games with the only Boston goal.

Re: NHL 19 - Classic Teams

An update of my 2010-2011 Bruins' quarterfinal series.

Boston absolutely dominated at TD Garden to take Game 2. Ken Dryden flubbed a clearing pass leaving an open cage for Tomas Kaberle foreshadowing an unpleasant ending for Montreal. Even though it was tied at 1-1 after 2 periods, the Bruins' relentless pressure paid off in the third with Boston scoring three times including an empty netter by Milan Lucic that was left off the highlight reel. Michael Ryder's second goal of the playoffs led the attack and proved to be the winner.

                <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/t0DmP39otIY" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Ken Dryden flipped the script as the scene shifted to the historic Montreal Forum. With Montreal badly outplayed for the second consecutive game, Dryden was brilliant stopping 31 of 32 Boston shots. The Bruins outshot the Habs 24 - 6 in the final two periods, but Patrice Bergeron was the only one who squeaked one past Dryden and Montreal gets back into the series.

                <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/FSJl1JoMbJI" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Montreal's offense finally woke up with legendary goalscorer Guy Lafleur notching a hattrick as the Habs tied the series. Once again, Dryden stood tall with Yvan Cournoyer and Doug Risebrough chipping in with a goal apiece for their second goals in as many games. My only joy in this one was Zdeno Chara absolutely pummelling Serge Savard in a second period tilt.

Re: NHL 19 - Classic Teams

Well, my 2010-2011 Bruins fell to the powerhouse 1976-77 Canadiens in 6 games.

In game five, the Habs embarrassed Boston at home with a resounding 5-2 victory. Mario Tremblay was the offensive catalyst potting 2 goals, and Pierre Bouchard exacted revenge in a bout with Nathan Horton after falling victim to Chara back in game 3. Boston finally broke through against Dryden, who stonewalled the Bruins for 59 minutes, with 2 inconsequential goals in the final minute.

                      <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/i4hzf_oZI2g" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Montreal completed the comeback in front of the home crowd rallying after dropping the first two games of the series. Boston outshot Montreal 39-18 and took a 1-0 lead into the final period on Milan Lucic's second goal of the series. Despite a Bruin onslaught, Ken Dryden once again held the fort, and Pierre Bouchard tied up the proceedings with 5 minutes left to play on a blast from the point. The teams went into overtime, and Steve Shutt rifled home his first of the playoffs to send Boston to the golf course.

Re: NHL 19 - Classic Teams

My 1973-74 Bruins will move on to the semifinals against the 1981-82 New York Islanders after a thrilling seven game series victory over the 2017-18 Washington Capitals.

In Game 5, each team traded powerplay goals before the first intermission. Matt Niskanen put the Capitals on the board, but with Alexander Ovechkin in the box, Phil Esposito knotted things up. Andre Burakovsky pounced on a rebound in the slot to make the score 2-1 and then Christian Djoos widened the margin with another powerplay goal. Espo responded late in the period to narrow the gap. TJ Oshie broke the backs of the Bruins intercepting a blueline pass on going in on a breakway to beat Gilbert with a shorty which would stand as the game-winner. Ken Hodge beat Holtby with 1:11 left, but Boston couldn't solve him with the extra attacker.

                        <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/TVwHLSktJLI" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Game 6 was a crushing defeat for the Bruins as they led 3-2 with less than 5 minutes to play in the third. Wayne Cashman's first-period goal was the only scoring until 34 seconds into the third period. Evengy Kusnetsov wristed a shot over the glove hand of Gilles Gilbert and then Washington took the lead on Lars Ellers' first goal of the playoffs. Bobby Orr tied it up on a slapper from the point for a powerplay goal and Terry O'Reilly drilled a puck home that Braden Holtby probably would have liked to have back to give Boston a 3-2 lead. Bruins' defenseman Darryl Edestrand took a tripping penalty and the roof caved in. TJ Oshie tallied on the man advantage and then Alaxander Ovechkin stuffed home a rebound with 28 seconds left on the clock. Nicholas Backstrom added an empty netter to cap the scoring.

Game 7 would be a masterpiece for Bruins' goalie Gilles Gilbert. He blocked 23 Capital shots and Phil Esposito would have his second two-goal game in his last three games to carry the Bruins to a 3-0 win and send them to the semi-finals.

Semifinal action against the Isles at the "Gahden". A look at the starting goalies who certainly have delivered in these playoffs. Smith was a galvanizing factor in New York's series win over the 2014-15 Blackhawks and is the playoff leader in GAA. Gilbert's heroics in Game 7 against the Capitals has been mentioned here already.

                          Game 1
It was all about the powerplay in the series opener. The Islanders benefitted from a chippy third period scoring twice with the man advantage to put this game away. Conversely, Boston was an abysmal 0-8 on the powerplay as Billy Smith was superb notching his second shutout of the playoffs. Brent Sutter corralled a Dave Langevin point shot and snuck it past Gilles Gilbert for the 1-0 lead. Boston had their chances to draw even in the third with two failed powerplay opportunities. The turning point of the game came with Boston down two men. John Tonelli made them pay with his 4th of the playoffs as he was set up by Bryan Trottier in front of the Bruin net. With Bobby Orr off on a tripping infraction, Stefan Persson's point shot found the mark to make it a 3-0 final.

                          Game 2
Dallas Smith helped set up Boston's first two goals including the winner in the second frame as Boston evened the series heading to Long Island. Carol Vadnais was the first recipient of Smith's generosity banging a point shot past Billy Smith on the powerplay. Don Marcotte picked up a lead pass from Smith in the second and wristing a bullet top shelf on the blocker side. New York made things interesting late in the third as the LILCO (Long Island Lighting Company) went to work. Mike Bossy turned Carol Vadnais inside out and beat Gilbert top corner glove side. Andre Savard cemented the victory with an empty net marker with 21 seconds remaining on the clock.

Ok Fiddy here you go. I led your 1991-92 Penguins to a one game advantage of their quarterfinal series against the 1955-56 Canadiens. After a scoreless first, Bernie "Boom Boom" Geoffrion zipped home a one-timer to beat Barrasso. Jaromir Jagr then tied things up pumping a blast past Jacques Plante and Kevin Stevens tipped home a powerplay goal in the third with three seconds left in regulation.

Great job on these rosters! You do great work on MLB Show as well, I was wondering how you were generating ratings on the classic players? I know in the show you use RBU, was just wondering what method you're using for NHL?
You play fast! You play strong! You go out there and dominate the man you're playing against, and you make his *ss quit! That's our trademark! That's our M.O. as a team! That's what people know us as! - Nick Saban
