Umpire tendencies

Does anyone have a list of umpire tendencies? You know when DeRo says "Rusty Valentine loves east and west" etc. Love to get a compilation of all the umpires. Or when you guys come across them post them in here, and your experiences with umpires. Thanks for everyones contributions.

Stuff in quotation marks are what commentators say, stuff not is users experience.

Ed Drummond
"Well like around baseball amongst players, managers, batters, pitchers" - Marlins Park
"Straight down the middle" - Camden Yard

Calls a good game, sometimes he gives a call, sometime he doesn't. Will call lower strikes more than the high strike.

noticed he didn't give many (any) high strikes (borderline or even 3/4 in strikezone) and you can't steal low ones from him. Seems to be hitter friendly but I did notice you could steal low inside corner occasionally (Vs RHB). Small sample size on him thus far though

Gary Simmons
All around just terrible, especially on pitchers low in the zone.

James Kingley
''if you pound the outer half, he'll give it to you'' - Fenway
"Very pitcher friendly if you pound the outer half of the plate" - Marlins Park

Earl Hendricks
"Well liked umpire throughout the league, very consistent" -Marlins Park

Don't bother trying to paint the corners, if the ball isn't 75% in the strike zone he isn't calling it. Especially on inside/outside pitches belt high in the zone. Does call borderline low pitches.

Joe MacDonald
"Very frustrating behind the plate, one inside pitch is a strike, the next pitch is a ball, its a cat and mouse game with him behind the dish. Batters tend to focus more on the umpire, when they should be focused on the pitcher" - Truist Park

DeRo and Matty V were right about MacDonald, not very friendly with inside pitches. Definitely pinches the zone in full counts. Overall wasn't too bad, did miss 2 big backwards Ks, which ended up hurting me later in the inning.

Patrick Johnson
"Decent strike zone, but isn't always consistent, could frustrate the offensive side as the game goes along" - Nationals Park

Gary Simmons is terrible! Awful!
He does not like the bottom of the strike zone at all, you put in right at the knees and he's not even consider it a strike.

I'm sure someone will advise on this but I'll try and keep track when I play. I keep track when im in game so I know where to steal strikes or know where I need to swing/lay off but if I remember i'll get it written up for you

Sounds good! I'll edit the first post to include what announcers say about an umpire and then add what our experiences are as well.

Thanks Caulfield, this can help tremendously in the scouting department for umpires.

Re: Umpire tendencies

some of these umpires are brutal, totally changes my approach to pitching in that particular game. So many close pitches not called, so of course i start to hit the middle of the zone and get pounded for it.

Re: Umpire tendencies

The lack of information on The Show's ump tendencies is why I personally prefer to set balls and strikes to Perfect, as if the real-life technology for robo-strike-zones had finally been fully realized and had no delays.

I blame Angel Hernandez.
