    Best Golf Game for PS$

Please excuse me for being a noob, but I'm curious to know what everyone's thoughts are on what the best golf game is for PS4?

I'm looking to start playing one. Looking for realism but continued playability.

    Thank you ahead of time!

Golf club 2019 is your best bet, I think golf club 2 is actually on sale for under $5 if you want to try it out.

The Golf Club 2019 is the best golf game going for the PS4. If you subscribe to PS Now, TGC 2019 is now included with that, so that would make it an easy choice. If you're more into arcade style golf of the 3-click swing interface variety, Everybody's Golf is the way to go, even though I find it inferior to both Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational and Hot Shot Golf: Out of Bounds on the PS3.

I just got Golf Club 2 a few days ago after I saw it was $2.99. This is my first golf game since TW14 and I think its gameplay is pretty good so far. I am disappointed that there isn't really a career mode. I think you can set up a season or something like that and you just choose the courses you play and how many tournaments there will be. I haven't really dove into that yet, I only play offline modes myself but it seems this is more aimed towards online play. I wish I could combine this gameplay with TW14's career mode which I think GC 2019 is more similar but I couldn't pass up GC 2 with a deal that cheap first.

Even TGC 2019 can't touch the features and depth of what TW14 offered unfortunately.

If TW14 could be played on XB1/PS4 with backwards compatibility, TGC would honestly be relegated to irrelevance for most all mainstream customers.

I think Rory is the best overall game but with TGC 2019 you get a load of courses beyond imagination.

Change the "14" to a "13" and I'm on board with this! I'll save my tired 'follow cam only presentation' reasoning as I'm sure it's already worn thin here...

Not to me! Follow-cam is the worst idea in golf games since the "different length putters" of the original Tiger Woods analog swing games...

Ahhh... so I'm not alone in my dislike of Follow-cam! I know there's a few more out there like us, as I recall this being an ongoing discussion in the EA Sports official Tiger Woods forum. The True-Aim camera fan base had grown steadily from its introduction in TW 11, and then 12 and 13. True-Aim went from being great in 13, to a totally inoperable in 14 The devs admitted they forgot to take it off the menu prior to release, but didn't go to the trouble to remove it in either of the two patches.

There needs to be a broadcast cam option just like on real TV. As the ball is flying it should cut to a close up of your golfer and then cut to the ball landing from the broadcast POV.

I know that I am, but Dr. Phil told me that I needed to own my condition so that I could eventually come to terms with it. Anthony Kyne told me I was behind the times when I told him I didn't like follow-cam in a discussion about the original TGC game. He said that a golf broadcast producer had told him that they would love to get a presentation like that in real broadcast.

I'll admit, Follow-cam is technically brilliant, but it presents a perspective that I can't relate to the real golf experience. For some reason, I much prefer watching the shape of the shot from the swing camera perspective until just before the ball touches down on the other end. I then like to switch to a reverse angle camera view (and Perfect Golf's reverse angle snap camera is my all time favorite) to watch the ball finish its travel. Now I know that's not real life either, but it's a perspective that can be presented by cameras IRL, and it makes up for the lack of down range visibility that are inherent in 2D.

Yet here I go again trying to explain a subjective preference in objective terms... better stated as "if I have to explain it, you probably wouldn't understand it."

Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 10 through 13 had a pretty decent Broadcast cam option that were all pretty good. I like Tiger 10's the best because it tended to stay with the golfer's perspective view longer before switching, but they were all usable. Tiger 14 has a Broadcast presentation option, but it's horribly flawed. It has all sorts of bizarre cuts to cameras that are behind mounds, below the ground, 10 foot putt camera cuts that jump to a perspective 50 feet overhead and 20 yards away. It only cuts to a camera that makes any sense at all maybe 20% of the time. I think Tiburon ran out of time and hit a deadline and had to release the game as is as far as two of the three presentation options are concerned.

This is it exactly. The ideal for me is to stay from the golfer's perspective for 75% of the shot, then snap to reverse landing angle for the last 25% + roll. The old golf games on PC did this perfectly (including the lost-to-the-sands-of-time classic PGA Tour Gold, which somehow is still purchase-able despite being >20 years old? https://www.amazon.com/PGA-Tour-Gold-PC/dp/B00001NFSW ). Why they changed I have no idea. I sort of suspect that at some point, the golf games started getting made by people that aren't actually golfers (hence a lot of inexcusable things like different-length putters for different length putts, manipulating the ball after impact, follow-cam, etc). That's the only real explanation that makes sense to me, anyway.

Anyway, even if you don't agree it's the best camera presentation, I fail to see why it shouldn't even be an option. After all, it is the most common way golf is broadcast on TV and how most of us are used to seeing golf presented on our screens.

As I was preparing to mail my copy of TW 14 (which I'd forgotten, btw, was the Collectors Edition with extra courses, historical Augusta, and extra players) off to MrArlingtonBeach this morning, I thought... annnhhh, I better fire this thing up one more time to see what I might have missed about it. I hadn't touched it in over six years, as it had come out in 2013. Here's my final musings on it:

1.) I'd forgotten just how good the graphics were as it has the best textures, course objects, player models and animations of the series.

2.) I played the front nine at TPC Louisiana using my custom difficulty settings, which doesn't include the diagonal stick motion to hit the ball straight, as the stock "Simulation" setting requires. I shot a 39 with these settings and found it to be a reasonable challenge. I never could wrap my head around having to perform a diagonal motion with the stick to be able to hit the ball straight... it just always felt so fundamentally counter-intuitive to me, which is why I use the custom setting.

3.) The ambient environmental sounds are first rate!

4.) I tried the default follow-cam for 3 holes and it's still not my thing. One aspect of the follow-cam presentation I'd forgotten about TW 14 was the way the camera instantly jumps from the straight on, golfer's swing camera point of view to another perspective maybe 3 feet higher and 4 or 5 feet to the right. It's just a bit unsettling for that to happen, without any subtle transition, right at impact.

3.) I tried the Broadcast camera presentation for the next three holes. It wasn't quite as bad as I'd remembered, but it's still unplayable, IMO. The broadcast presentation producer often calls for a follow-cam angle for about 90% of the shot. Its biggest weakness is in the way it doesn't zoom in for cut views on putts, it often zooms out, two or three times the original view distance, frequently to a 90 degree angle, which tells you nothing about how the putt broke, especially from the distances it's often placed!?

4.) I did see that they had removed "True-Aim" from the camera options since I'd last played it, so I'll have to give them props for that.

5.) I saw the "Connected Tournaments" note and I'd forgotten how cool that was to be playing a tournament, seeing the ball trails of others who were playing in the same tournament, in real time. That added a lot of life to the tournaments.

Finally, there's a lot to like about TW 14, if you're cool with follow-cam and the insta-camera jump at putt impact. I'm just not wired to enjoy the follow-cam presentation mode to the extent that I can't get around it to fully enjoy this game. I'm still very happy with Tiger Woods 13 and its True-Aim presentation, when I want to go back for some retro gaming golf though!
