EA and the development of the next Madden 21

How long after the release of Madden 20 do you think the EA team started working on the next Madden 21 game?

They start working on the next game before the current one releases, so probably July of 2019. I’m basing that on my time visiting the studio a couple times for community day events.

Only thing I'm certain on for M21 is that SS KO will get expanded, which means SS and X Factors are here to stay. Personally, I think they should stay and the more they implement them the better player differentiation will get.

I have 0 expectations for Franchise. They have a lot of work ahead of them adding 2 new stadiums and getting all of the new uniforms in. I wouldn't be surprised if they found a way to spin those as the big "additions" to franchise.

if they don't add anything good to Franchise and improve little bit to Franchise Mode then i don't think it is worth buying

I agree with the sentiment, but they added absolutely nothing this year to franchise and it's been an incredible game. I've put 500 hours into solo franchises this year. If they continue to improve gameplay, I'll be hooked again next year.

Don't get me wrong, I would be first in line to pay a stupid amount of money for a Madden game with a DeuceDouglas-style complete overhaul of Franchise. I've also seen how little they care about Franchise though so I'm keeping expectations low and any additions will be a bonus. I can't keep getting my hopes up for them to re-prioritize their dev time year after year lol.

I can't prove this, but i think they are working off a previous version and just tweak it. So they're modifying Madden 20 and just slapping 21 on it. I think most sports games work off previous versions and just update it. I think it's a glorious/patch update with just a full price tag.

I hope this time EA put kick and punt returners also into the team of the X-Factors. If i'm not wrong EA promised that for M20.

I enjoy the gameplay but I just can’t keep buying without some major improvements in franchise when it comes to how the computer builds a team. They’re at a disadvantage because the NFL I season is only 16/17 games so you can play every game and blast through a season in no time. Get a few seasons in and your franchise is littered with high 70s rated teams and it’s just not fun. For me it’s easier to place a bigger emphasis on gameplay and less on the nuts and bolts of franchise in other sports games because the longer season doesn’t shine as bright of a light on franchise shortcomings

Nope. I honestly would not expect much from Madden 21 for the following reasons:

                      1) Corona virus will be blamed. They will either directly or indirectly claim that the corona virus disrupted their ability to work on the game the way they want.

                      2) You have the new game platforms being released later in the year. As history has shown us, the transition from one platform to the next has always been rough. The problem is that you're essentially making two games in one development cycle. So they basically have to split their time between two games. Either one game gets the shaft or the other, or both are mediocre (other than the amazing graphics that the new plat form gives.

Honestly... keep your expectations low on this.

They need to overhaul the player stats and partner with PFF on player grades. The game and players grades are not based on basic stats anymore. MLB the show has great player stats and grading. Not sure bout NBA 2k but it cant be as bad as Madden.

Re: EA and the development of the next Madden 21

I was kind of surprised that Madden didn't have any participation at all with the draft. I know NFL reporters were reporting that Madden would do a virtual draft. I doubted that from the start and then Madden refuted that claim. Madden usually posts pictures of draftees in uniforms using previous game. But I understand that with pandemic and working from home, would have prevented it. I just thought they would follow similar schedule to Madden 20.

I do agree that with new consoles coming out later in year effects how they approach things. Its one thing under normal circumstances having to deal with rough transition to next gen. But when you factor in pandemic and having to work from home, I definitely got my expectations low. Unless we see things get better by June, I'm not sure if we will have a NFL season let alone Madden. I agree with what kennylc321 said. Having to basically develop 2 games in this current circumstances is going to be even tougher.

Well they certainly don't rebuild the game from scratch every year...
