NCAA Football 2k
There is this new game store in my area that specializes in retro gaming. I went in on Sunday and they had this game for $2.99 so I scooped it up. Anybody remember it? I don't remember playing it."Dunks are tough, but when a 35 footer come rainin out the sky...it'll wire you up"Tags: None -

I recently purchased it a few weeks ago. I just haven't had time to dig into it yet. How do you like it?NBA 2k18 Roster:

Re: NCAA Football 2k
I had the 2K2 version on the Dreamcast...and enjoyed it.
I didn't play 2K3, but I do recall it getting hammered in reviews compared to EA's game that year (2003 was Possibly the best year over year improvement EA ever had with the series).
I seem to recall that 2K3 focused on the option play....and people said that part of the game was decent, but not much else (from what I remember???).
I will be curious as to your review in 2020.Comment

Just cracked it open and am watching a CPU vs. CPU game Utah-San Diego State. The things that stand out so far:
1) The game actually looked better than I thought it would...although with it being made in 2002 the graphics are obviously outdated.
2) You can tell they mo-captured Eric Crouch for the option game. The proper steps that the QB takes depending on whether it's a speed or counter option look good. Problem is out of the box, the option game is non-existant. The defense be all over it.
3) I've seen some pretty cool animations...you can def tell it's a 2k football game. I've already seen 3 PI's.
4) You can edit players, create a school, edit recruits(I think)
5) The game has the ESPN presentation almost identical to 2k5 but minus the halftime show etc. It also has fictional play by play announcers like 2k5 did.
The game definitely needed polish and would have been interesting to see what it would have been if 2k would have continued with the series."Dunks are tough, but when a 35 footer come rainin out the sky...it'll wire you up"Comment

That’s the frustrating thing I believe we all express. WHAT WOULD this game be had it stayed with the franchise and into today?Just cracked it open and am watching a CPU vs. CPU game Utah-San Diego State. The things that stand out so far:

Re: NCAA Football 2k
it's a decent title.
But from what I remember there are some bugs. I remember a few games that I played, the field goal kicker for the opposing team kept missing extra points.
if they continued developing the game it would have been a good title. However, folks dont mention 2k college football because EA did an exceptional job with their collegiate football title.Comment

Yeah, I was all in on EA's NCAA games that I didn't even think to give this game a shot. I don't think VC put nearly as much effort into this game as they did the NFL 2k franchise. One example is the fact that the fans are all wearing different colors during a game. It's kind of a small thing, yet big at the same time. Watching that game the other day, the home team has red colors and yet the fans were wearing Orange, Yellow, Green, Red...looked like a box of Lucky Charms cereal. It stands out like a sore thumb and takes away from the atmosphere.
Also, with regards to recruits...although I haven't taken a dive into Legacy Mode yet...I don't think recruits are rated according to stars but letter grades. I'll have more free time tonight and I'll run through a Legacy and see."Dunks are tough, but when a 35 footer come rainin out the sky...it'll wire you up"Comment

Re: NCAA Football 2k
Yeah, I do give EA Sports that. They did a good job with NCAA Football. Even when Madden went through the dark ages of the 7th gen, NCAA was still a relatively good titles especially 10 and to 14. I remember in my later teen years 10 or so years ago, me buying older PS2 football games. I bought 2k3, but was more into the later PS2 NCAA games.
I always wondered why 2k dropped out of the College Game market earlier than what was forced on EA. I do agree that they didn't put as much effort into NCAAF as NFL, but looking what they did with CHOOPs2k8, I can only imagine the type of depth in a NCAA Football 2k8 would have looked like. But that was around the time, 2k started focusing primilarly on NBA2k and any game that wasn't selling "well" was dropped.Comment

Re: NCAA Football 2k
After spending more time with this game, and forming my own opinion...I can say with certainty that this game is gar-bajjjjjeee!! There is indeed a bug where every FG kicker misses extra points. The QB's pump fake on 97% of drop backs and on every play-action pass they throw off of their back foot. The main feature they advertised, the option, doesn't work. Legacy mode is as bare bones as it gets. There is no method to recruiting, no star rankings no nothing. It appears that NCAA 2k2 for the Dreamcast was 100x's better than this game. It's as bad as advertised lol."Dunks are tough, but when a 35 footer come rainin out the sky...it'll wire you up"Comment

I still have this game after 15+ years. It was bad in my opinion. You could only edit so many teams.Fav teams:

It was significantly worse than the NFL 2K's from that year which I never understood.Comment
