PGA TOUR 2K21 Career Mode Trailer

Looks like Career Mode info is coming...

Also shows some MyPlayer stuff...looks like clubs from Callaway, TaylorMade, Bridgestone, Ben Hogan, maybe Mizuno and Wilson Staff, too. Apparel from adidas, Royal & Awesome, Tattoo Golf...

Clubs have attributes (see at 31 seconds into the video)...

Korn Ferry Tour is included in some way, too. As are real tournaments, like the John Deere Classic, Tour Championship, Genesis Invitational, Valspar Championship, Waste Management Phoenix Open, etc.

2K Twitter has also confirmed that the mode is not scripted, a la MyPlayer mode in NBA 2K games: https://twitter.com/PGATOUR2K/status...94916704776192

Was just going to post this - looks promising.

Real clubs and more clothing options should add to the experience.

Re: PGA Tour 2K21 Career Mode Trailer

The one big thing that seems to be missing, which is an important factor for me for any golf game's career mode, is major championships. We know that The Masters is a pipe dream at this point, but there is no mention of The Open, US Open, or PGA Championship.

Playing in real PGA Tour events is fine, but taking part in the "2K Major Championship" or "HB Studios Open Championship" or whatever they are going to be called is lame, especially after being able to play in real majors in PGA Tour games going all the way back to Tiger Woods 10 when we could first play in the US Open.

I will never forget the punch-to-the-gut feeling of playing in the "Spring Invitational" at Wolf Creek in Nevada instead of The Masters in Rory McIlroy PGA Tour, after playing at Augusta in the previous three Tiger Woods games.

I thought the trailer confirmed my suspicion that the Career mode was going to be a series of head-to-head matches against featured pros until you faced Justin Thomas in the FedEx Cup Championship final. I posted that in the official forum and Shaun West came back and doused it by saying it's not a series of head-to-head matches. Still unclear as to what we do have because the announcers keep saying he's going to defeat so and so in this round... shouldn't you be worried about defeating the field in a medal play tournament?

        Two things I noticed:

Club performance is now broken down into:

        Distance
        Shot Shaping
        Forgiveness
        Swing Plane
        Distance Control

I notice the Callaway driver is high in "Distance" but low in "Shot Shaping", for example. This might blur the lines a bit, if it's implemented properly, between equipment types and brands. I don't think there's enough information exposed in this video to answer that question, but seeing the five attribute types gives me some hope for this.

When Matt Kucher hit his approach shot to a hole, the crowd was baying "Kooooooooch"... so nice touch there, but it was low hanging fruit they needed to grab.

I need to watch more and see how much more data I can pick up about these club attributes and the total point distribution available between brands/types.

I still feel like we are doing a lot of talking that is not about any changes to the swing or physics or loft grid...

          Iโ€™m definitely wondering if I can โ€œbeat the Postmanโ€...

We are, but they're going after the big headline items first... the one's that are going to have the most appeal to the Social Media demographic. I'm just picking up what I can from what I'm seeing here, but the questions about the swing, physics, loft grid, etc., will likely come last as an afterthought, and then probably not in enough detail to satisfy most of us here.

              Unrelated..
I really think they should reconsider the marketing with the nicknames

I am eagerly awaiting gameplay info, too...but even this career mode trailer leaves so much to be desired in terms of info.

Like was mentioned earlier, it seems that there will be head-to-head battles with the pros at various tournaments, but then 2K says there won't be. So what's with all the "can you beat Mr. 58?" talk?

Lots of mixed messages and vague hints at stuff. Seems they are instead opting for the "swag" and "sizzle". I mean, what was up with the kangaroos in the video???

I wonder what the swing plane club attribute is?

The others seem self explanatory. Curious to see how the club attributes intertwine with difficulty.

These videos have become an exercise in reading between the lines.

What theyโ€™re talking about isnโ€™t the interesting part but rather all the things they donโ€™t seem to want to talk about (yet...hopefully)

Yeah not much substance yet for career mode.

My guess is it will act like a typical career mode where you play through tournaments, but challenges will pop up in different scenarios. For example you play your first round on the PGA Tour with one of the pros and the challenge is to have a lower scoring round than them. Later perhaps you are leading a tournament and the challenge is to hold off one of the pros and win. The last scenario would be when you are leading or near the top of the FedEx standings and in the last tournament you have to "beat" Justin Thomas to win the cup.

Probably to show the game is more dynamic and alive than playing like we were catching dead fish in the last 3 versions. Even the crowd is alive.

At the end of the day, that's marketing and why 2K is running the show as publisher. We will have to be patient, another 2 months to go. I've got a feeling we will get a video for newbies with all the aids in the game soon before something for the sim crowd.

It sure looks like the pros will have their own attributes, so maybe a swing plane closer to Kuch or Furyk with a slider if you chose a certain brand. Just a wild guess.

I think they're interchanging the term swing plane for what's been being called swing path in the previous games. It will probably dictate how wide your swing path deviation zone is on the swing feedback meter. IOW, if you have a high "swing plane" value, you'll get less of a slice for a swing path that's outside-in. That's my guess anyway.

Totally get that, but my point is that the trailer said nothing really new of substance in terms of career mode. It showed named tourneys (which we already knew was in the game, as it was already in TGC 2019), licensed courses (which were already mentioned when the game was announced), licensed clubs and apparel (again, they told us that was in). The only new things they showed were that clubs do in fact have attributes, and gave us a snippet of what the new commentary might sound like.

I guess kangaroos make the game seem more "dynamic"? But does that mean that an official course from Australia is in? Who knows, because 2K isn't telling - at least not yet.

I guess my point is that these trailers and announcements, which I am sure are meant to drum up interest, aren't really doing that for me. They have each led to more questions in more of a frustrating kind of way. Instead of getting excited to hear more, I am just begging for actual info that would help me decide if I want to buy this game. They keep pushing for the preorders, but I know next to nothing new about this game that wasn't already mentioned when it was first debuted.
