is NFL Head Coach a SIM game?

this just hit me, imagine if one of 2ks games is an NFL Head Coach game. they just blow the franchise/coaching decisions mechanics out of the water, then they make whatever game they are making that features actual game play on the sticks and carry that same coach mode over into that.

In NFL Head Coach, you literally make a play call and watch the result of your decision get simulated before your eyes in real-time with little to no opportunity for user interaction while that happens. You do this repeatedly over the course of multiple NFL games and seasons. The decisions you are allowed to make are authentic to decisions real-world NFL head coaches make on a play-by-play and day-to-day basis. In addition to these mechanics, the game shares Madden's high-level art style, that being photo-realistic graphics and audio.

Of all the examples or hypotheticals posed so far, I think this one is pretty cut-and-dry. NFL Head Coach is obviously a "sim" game, IMO. It's arguably the most "sim" console football game that exists.

Aside from them reviving APF with a generic league this would be the next best option in my opinion. APF animated so well for its time, it was fun just to watch fan made vids of it.

Updated with next gen graphics and a deep franchise I could play an NFL Head Coach like game all day. I don’t think it’s very likely to be the game 2k is making but if it was...oh man I’d be crying tears of joy after not having a football game I enjoy for so many years now.

NFL Head Coach is basically the definition of a sim game. Compare to OOTP. A baseball simulator. It's basically that but with football.

09 is the most accurate representation of NFL 'franchise' simulation that EA has come up with.

                There isn't a close 2nd.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

Its impossible to get a accurate baseline, IMO. They bundled it *with* Madden. They didn't market it, and its virtually the only EA product I can name that they bailed on in such short order.

How well would it sell as a standalone? Rebrand it as Madden Franchise. Put in standard gameplay, and have a robust coach mode.

You'll never convince me this wouldn't sell if they put any effort in whatsoever.

NFL Head Coach 09 was available as a standalone as well as being bundled in the Madden 20th anniverary edition. I do agree with the rest of your points though.

                          That's what I mean though.

If I knew I could get it bundled with Madden, why wouldn't I buy a 2-for-1 product?

I don't think sales reflect what this game was. Certainly not what it could have been.
