What are YOU going to do about this problem?

As we know, we have no solid details on when the NHL will kick off the next season. As it stands at the moment, it looks like January is most likely.

Thats potentially three months after the release of NHL 21...which means, no roster updates that include rookies until that time.

So what are we supposed to do? Wait all that time to start our franchises?

What are you going to do? Manual roster edits?

I think we will get a roster update on Friday with rookies assigned to their proper teams, and free agents assigned to their new teams. As far as RFA’s still without contract, I think EA should just give them all one year deals in the meantime, and any UFA’s without a deal should just be moved to the free agent list. The problem with starting a franchise now even if you move the rookies manually to their current teams, they are listed as undrafted free agents, and when you lose up franchise it messes with their potentials. I would be absolutely shocked if we didn’t get a roster update by at least Friday.

Now as far as top international guys like Kaprizov, or college players who finally signed an entry level deal prior to the re-start; then yes we most likely will not see them until January or February at the absolute earliest

I'm going to take the first update they put out and create my player. Add my player to the Pens as their 3rd line center at 18 years old and go for some NHL records. Player lock as the centers and just have some fun. May even sim games until the 3rd period and play the entire 3rd and thats it.

I may have spoken to soon. A community manager on the EA forums said “they didn’t have enough time” to complete a roster update. And “doesn’t know when they will have one ready”. Typical EA. The can have an Alex Laferennier Rangers UT card ready for launch, but can’t even have him assigned to his proper team in the base roster. Go figure. Well so much for starting our franchises and BAP with this shotty and thrown together roster

I have actually found that, in the past, the release roster is one of the best of the year. Usually takes me a day or two to get everything sorted, but you don't lose those CHLers that disappear as soon as they play a game or two.

You'll never get the KHLers (Kaprizov, etc.), and USNP/NCAA prospect (Spencer Knight, etc.) that would be great to have in the game, but there are a few guys that do rating spreadsheets for prospects around here that can usually get your roster looking decent within that timeline.

Obviously, it's not ideal, but the roster update issue is, in my opinion, a legacy issue that won't be solved until they add roster sharing, which I've pretty much given up on.

We’re not talking about players that are not already in the game though. I understand players like Kaprizov and USNDT cannot be included in the game. But players that are already in the game like Lafreniere, Byfield, and Stutzle are not assigned to there current teams. This makes them eligible for the 2021 draft and they more than likely will not be drafted by their real teams. Sure, I can go in edit myself (I already did and only took about two hours), but the problem is when you do this they are considered undrafted rookies and their potentials drop when you load up franchise. I loaded up franchise 3 times and each time byfields potential dropped from Elite to top 6.

Again, I get this. The draft was last week and they didn’t have enough time to update for the trial. The issue I am taking with this team is an official EA “community manager” claimed they didn’t have the time to update the roster after the draft, and as of right now have none planned. Not enough time??? The draft was on Tuesday and Wednesday of last week and over the weekend I was able to assign ALL draft picks in the game and free agents to their current teams, and it only took me around 2 hours (once again, this work around is flawed and broken this not a real solution). Without any developer tools mind you. Yet they had time to make sure these rookies already in the game had their proper team assigned for their UT Cards at launch. An updated roster used to be standard with your $60 purchase but I guess not anymore

Ah, I didn't really consider the draft problem. I think I'll be quite content to wait for the price to plummet in a couple of months.

If only there was an easy fix to leaving EA to do what is clearly a super hard job updating rosters...Someone should get something along the lines of #addrostershareEANHL or #whydoesEAhatetheirfanbase trending.

Yeah for sure. We got a pretty long discussion going on over at EA’s official forum regarding this. Mostly getting generic answers from a community manager though. They really should just call this game NHL ultimate Team ‘21 because it really is the only playable mode right now. I was going to purchase tonight but I am going to wait for at least a first roster update

Depends how into the game you are. I found the Neutral zone pressure and forecheck from the AI to drastically make certain aspects of the game harder which was enough to warrant a purchase from me. I also play 1000+ offline games a year where a change like this is very noticeable. If you're more of a casual offline guy who doesn't adjust sliders and/or are a GM fan who sims a lot, I can't speak to that.

That’s a very simple question. My solution is not to buy now. Buy it in January from private as used. From my meaning this patch of NHL 20 ( it is not more for Franchise only Player ) isn’t worth the full price also not to give them money. When you buy from private as used they will not earn your money.

Start with an expansion team at the beginning and do a build up. Then I'll just draft the previous draft eligible players to new teams and do like a reload of the offseason with an expansion team to build up. It will hold me over till a roster update comes out.

With it a lot of guys that would be protected are eligible to be selected because their contracts are expiring so I tried to keep it realistic and select who may actually be available. It's pretty fun. I ended up with the 2nd overall pick too so I got Stutzle. Highly recommend if you want something to hold you over till the updated rosters come out.

I did not have this problem at all. I edited all the first round draft picks so they are on their correct teams.

I just checked Lefrenierre, Byfield, and Stulze, and all three were ELITE
