What are the beat routes to consistently best press coverage?

Additionally- and this is the gold - what is the best route to beat press coverage with safety help over the top?

I guess you're struggling to beat press coverage - usually a go route works quite well if the press defender is not far superior in terms of ratings and speed.


If you can't beat him on the route, it's best to avoid the press - just like the real NFL teams do if a WR struggles to beat press. For example use stacked formations, put your WR in motion. In the game there are some routes that can't be pressed like the go route with a little evade move at the beginning (some plays have it built in, can't audible it).

Route combos where two wideouts cross each other (slant/flat, fade from slot/drag from flanker, etc) will often create a natural rub that helps you beat press.

Also, if you use formation subs you can move a guy around to try to avoid a dominant press corner. Unless the defender uses coach adjustments, which I haven't noticed that often.

I'll take a 9 route to Ruggs all day vs. press.

I like Divide as a concept vs. press as well, since if it's 2 deep rather than single-high, you'll have an interior post route splitting the safeties. If you get single-high, the interior post will occupy the safety while your WR exploits the 1-1 matchup on the outside.

I also like comebacks vs. press, provided I have a guy who can win at the top of the route/and/or the catch point w/ strong separation ability or good CIT ability.

That's just me, personally, but FWIW.
