    Next Gen 21

Does anyone know , with Microsoft saying all games on XBox Series X will be playable on PC, does this mean next gen NHL will be playable on PC?

I don't know if future next gen intallments will be playable on PC. However, there will be no next gen version of NHL 21 at all.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe this only applies to Microsoft's 1st Party games and games that are on Game Pass

I'm not sure how EA Play's upcoming relationship with game pass would affect this? Could you play 10 hours of 21 on PC lol

This is correct. When Microsoft said this they were referring to the first party games they make. All third party games pc compatability are decided by each individual company.

I keep thinking EA will port NHL to PC because it would help their EA Origin subscription platform but they havent even hinted at it happening. Mods for NHL would be amazing.

I would LOVE mods for a more current game than 09/04

But I think that exact thing is one reason they won't (although I'm not sure why). Then again, Madden on PC has been getting modded and they don't seem to be stopping that...

So maybe it's just a market share issue and not worth the effort from their view?

I honestly dont think any companies are concerned about modding. Legally speaking they carry no liability for what modders do and on the other side of it, modding only contributes more revenue. I know of some people that would go out and buy a gaming pc just to use mods in NHL.

I guess you could make the argument that mods may lengthen a games playability thus hampering the ability to sell new games every year but I really dont think that is a concern.

My guess is it's all related to market share. Sales for NHL on console arent the greatest so shrinking that market on PC even more doesnt provide much incentive. Especially to a super small development team that hasn't even been able to do 4k HDR yet lol

Mods basically tell the average gamer that the game is crap unless they are willing to beef up their PC and learn about modding. My guess is that this is something EA is more worried about than whatever impact a mod actually has on the game.
