    Turn off X-factor stuff

I'm not so sure the differences in players are worth the ridiculous, over-the-top video gamey-ness of having them on. No more lasers falling from the sky, no more x's on the field, all that jazz. Just good old fashioned football. You still get the better route running animations, but without all the "can't be intercepted" nonsense.

With correct slider adjustments, the game is still fun without all those sci-fi elements. At least for me.

Anyone agree? Or is it just that I haven't yet acquired the taste for the arcady Superstar stuff?

You mean Patrick Mahomes doesn’t occasionally get unlimited passing range IRL? Interesting. I just assumed he did considering this is considered a simulation game.

I just hate all the on the screen stuff, impact players should stand out, without the screen clutter.

In one and a half Madden "seasons" I have yet to experience either a human or CPU opponent activating Bazooka.

Well, then that completely excuses the ability's unrealistic basis!

I still don't get why the abilities like this couldn't have remained MUT stuff while they took a different route to differentiate the players in at least Simulation mode.

Having guys get in the zone like the old Impact Players feature in NCAA is more realistic than the way X-Factors and all of that is implemented. It may have not been tuned perfectly in the past, but it was definitely more grounded in reality than what we have now.

Fortunately Madden 20 and 21 have made the ratings matter more than they did the past 10+ years, so turning off the X-Factor nonsense still gives you gameplay where ratings matter and players feel different.

I turned it off in 20 but in 21 I haven't had any issues with it.

                Re: Turn off X-factor stuff

I think the abilities are done better in M21 than they were in M20; there are more of them (diluting the possibility of a handful of overpowered ones - like enforcer - taking over), and the abilites themselves are a bit more reserved. I actually think some of them (like the ones impacting the OL's resistance to pass rush moves) add another layer to the game. Playing with the default 75-man roster, the majority of the abilities are really solidly done (though I do edit the apprentice abilities from CPU players as they don't use hot routes - to my knowledge).

The recently added ability for the user to easily edit them has been quite helpful, as is the ability to limit the overall numbers of SS/XF players and to turn off breakout scenarios (which are harder to trigger even if turned-on). One can quite easily minimize the global impact of these abilities on CFM's long-term stability (which was the major bugaboo in M20).

I'll be honest, I really thought last year that Madden was going down the path of the online-centric games (i.e. NBA 2k and its inane badge system); but they actually reversed-course and began toning-down the impact for CFM players using default settings while providing users the ability to have fun and pump up the numbers.

The one area where Madden still needs to clean it up is with the on-screen displays. It's time to give us the ability to turn off the displays (and I'd argue, including pass icons) so we can engage in a true 'clean screen' environment...which is actually funny being that we're in a time where NFL broadcasts are adding more and more of them.

I can't ever going back to playing without them. Without X-Factor abilities, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, etc. just go back to being accurate pocket passers.

Ironically if they had just called them traits and never had any on screen indicators of them while having the exact same functionality, no one would be castigating them with hyperbolic pejoratives, IMO.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

Yeah, I enjoy the differentiation it helps enable/illustrate, but think it could be tuned a bit as far as how it's conveyed.

I'd just like to have the ability to play with SSA enabled, but not see those immersion killing graphics.

NBA2k has badges, but you can still play "clean screen".

This right here, ten-fold. They are so, so bad.

I enjoy them. I don't think X-Factors activate enough to be a glaring issue. However, I think SuperStar abilities are starting to get a little out of control. It seems like almost every player is starting to get them.
