It's like this game gets more and more casual every year
I strictly play Rec and it's threes galore, teams are shooting lights out. PG dribbles a bit, pass to a teammate and automatic green. This is the same setup 7/10 games. I hadn't sat down and really payed attention yet, maybe my teammates are trash, but I swear they have a hand in the shooter's face. So I could be wrong and am getting trash teammates, but at this point the immersion for me is gone.

Playing rec and expecting a simulation experience is a fool’s errand. Park and rec are arcade experiences, treat them as such.

But why does it have to be that way? Basically every mode right now is an arcade fest, the whole game develops in the completely wrong direction in my opinion. Most people that play this game are not even interested in basketball itself anymore...Comment

Re: It's like this game gets more and more casual every year
The one thing I miss from older games was the option, for my career at least, to choose between simulation and arcade styles.
I even noticed that watching somebody like Chris Smoove on youtube, he used to have relatively realistic games on older 2Ks. Now that the focus is more arcade and less about running sets he always seems to average 50-60 as a rookie. I think that is something that needs to be resolved, and even extended into online modes to allow more sim-friendly guys to enjoy.Comment

Re: It's like this game gets more and more casual every year
Even by 2ks usual online standards (which have been very arcade since its inception) this year's game feels even more arcadey given how broken the build system is. When you have 6-7 PFs that can posterize, hit deep moving threes, and dribble extremely well (while also having 20+ defensive badges) it takes any semblance of realism out the game. I was honestly ok with previous 2ks where pure sharps and play shots hit 3s at a ridiculous rate... because that was what they were supposed to do, but they had weaknesses in other parts of their game... this year though that doesn't apply to the demigod PFs.
Finally with Rec specifically the fact that AIs give too much space to shooters which essentially makes it target practice for them, which adds to the arcady feeling.Comment

But here's the thing, the other game modes are also very arcade like. My Team? Straight casual fest, I don't even both with this mode. Play Now? I haven't touched yet, but I'm willing to bet your AI Teammates are trash.Last edited by ImInThis; 01-12-2021, 09:10 AM.Comment

Introducing badges and 100% greens has been the worst mistakes.

Agree 100%. A lot of us were also warning about how badges lead to a lot of exploitation and arcade gameplay Instead of toning them down what have they done, add more and more every year. My player builds can equip like 60 lmao. It is basically insane if you thought making a simulation was the goal. They said they wanted to differentiate stars from common players, but even if that was the og intent it quickly became a bs excuse to create a hook to exploit players addiction responses. Guaranteed makes on greens is the greatest illustration of their intent with badges. IMO the whole system has become sinister and pretty gross. In a way 2k represents pure capitalism with a perfect product to generate continued income. the players playing are just hooked now, they continue to perpetuate this own little universe of alternate basketball and the vast majority seem quite fine to stay entrenched in it without any worries to the game playing more true to the sport. At this point the only hope is for another company to come out and entice players with realistic basketball, but then I never think that will happen because any for profit organization is going to look at how much revenue 2k generates with their model and it would be risky to go a completely different direction.Comment

Re: It's like this game gets more and more casual every year
I do feel like there should be a raging @ 2k for being casual sticky. haha, cuz these threads don't deserve to be locked, they don't deserve to be merged into impressions, either... but I dunno what to do with them.
Honestly tho this game is less casual imo. Take over is casual though. I dunno why they put that trash in the game. Taking out the mod controls (CG), other than stupid inside D because of stupid badges and contest mechanics... I think it's less casual than it has been.
Boosts, take over, getting higher ratings for passing 95... tho... all that stuff takes the competition out of the game.
Edit: @ coach, I am a 95% IQ/positioning player. It still works. But don't expect to make a jumper unless you have certain ratings and/or badges. On CG at least.
I'm always saucing people with low rated players haha.

Re: It's like this game gets more and more casual every year
Yes everyone, the only simulation experience deemed by BaselineBakes is playing a static, offline-only franchise mode with programmed, repetitive bots where you the user controls 5 players instead of controlling 1 player. You must only play vs ARTIFICIAL Intelligence and you must have bots and you must run the triangle and run plays every single possession and you must play on ball defense all the time all day. Only that is what can be deemed simulation.
WRONG
When I go to my local basketball court/gym I'm controlling myself in 'first person view', not a team of bots. Basketball is about being an individual who is also apart of a team. What you're talking about is more like coach mode, not sim/realistic gameplay.
Furthermore Pro-Am is *supposed* to be simulation and is an esport. Park is park, let the 12 yr olds who want triple alleyoops and fireballs have that. But Rec and Pro Am are supposed to be 'sim', so we need to hold the devs/2K to that. Bad takes like yours doesn't help achieve that.Last edited by TheFgGoatLikesHawks; 01-17-2021, 12:16 PM.Comment

Yup this is what happens when the casuals, youtubers, twitchers, tweeters are catered to and the sport itself is forgotten. 2K = the MTV of videogames lolComment

Re: It's like this game gets more and more casual every year
MyTEAMs a joke, I rarely play that. It'd be a lot of fun if it actually represented the players accurately. But of course 2K ruins that by having tiers of players that make demigods out of any player. When there's a mode where Ben Simmons can hit 3's like Curry, you know it's gone full reee--- mentally challenged --- mode.Last edited by TheFgGoatLikesHawks; 01-17-2021, 12:29 PM.Comment
