2021 NHL structure/schedule update

New season starts tomorrow and EA still hasn’t updated the game to use the new divisions and new schedule?

What gives?

I really don't see them getting either of them in since it it is special for this season due to the pandemic. It would probably take a rather large update to the actual code in franchise mode to get in a shortened schedule and these new divisions. MLB the Show didn't get in the shortened season and I don't believe that NBA 2K got in the shortened 72 game season either but I can't confirm because I don't have the game yet.

You're right. No game has updated their schedule to account for covid specific seasons.

I'm guessing that it would take a rather large update to the coding of the modes that's why companies aren't doing it.

I still maintain that no sports game should make any adjustments for the pandemic. They should use old schedules like they have here and make the game its own universe. So much better than the adjusted ones.

Not to mention the coding that would likely be required. Have this many games for this season then adjust back to normal would require more work than it is worth.

Also I don't see a large number of people wanting their game to match their real world situation right now.

Games should be an escape from reality not further cementing it.

Not a chance they update anything..

But, cant we adjust the divisions ourselves prior to starting a franchise? Move teams around etc.

You can, in Franchise divisions can be re-aligned and I'm sure you can swap teams around in season mode...

While you can realign the divisions, it doesn't allow you to set it up for division play only as this season will be.

I was thinking to start Franchise with this year divisions to get different experience than usually. For Franchise Mode i dont even really need to play against only one Division.

It could be cool to have a season mode with this year rules, but i dont think that is necessary. And certainly EA wont do that much work.

If you realign the divisions, will it also change the schedule or would for example the Habs still play the Bruins like 6 times and the western Canadian teams only twice?

So ridiculous. You can set divisions in custom mode, why can’t they change it in the base game.

NHL series has set the bar so low for current gen, Even Madden has vastly more features and they’re not even close to where NBA 2K is, where we can create custom teams down to full jerseys and courts and for NHL we can’t even share rosters.

EA should farm out NHL next gen to another development team. This one shipped an incomplete game first time for PS4 and is too lazy/slow to make industry standard changes, but I guess as long as the micro transactions roll in they don’t care.

Did you miss the part where NO major sports game has adapted their league structures or schedules to account for real life tempoorary changes created because of COVID?

this is a great example of why we need a "FIFA Tournament Mode" (like we used to on old-gen) in the NHL game. Could've made 4 separate tournaments for each division, then made a 5th tournament to actually run the playoffs. This game is so unbelievably rigid which is rather lame when you consider how fun their CaT suite is. Limiting that tool to only be used in traditional league formats is lame.
