I have already played through most of the first season and I don't have pictures for any of the first season's games, but I will be adding that during the second season. I will be posting a couple times per week, despite having most things already logged, because I'm afraid of burn out and would like to stay ahead of things and I have an issue of starting projects and not finishing them. I would like to thank Deuce2223, superjames1992, and Careless Whisper as their dynasties have really inspired me and I hope to bring as much entertainment as they have to me.

A-State Promote Kurtis Diaz to Offensive Coordinator

Layne Hatcher drops back to pass in a game last year. He will be the major focal point of Diaz's new offense.

JONESBORO, Ark. - Arkansas State head football coach Blake Anderson has announced today that they have promoted Quarterbacks coach Kurtis Diaz to Offensive Coordinator.

"Coach Diaz has been with us long before I got here and he has made it through so many staffs because of how good he is as a coach. I admire him and his determination and I'm glad I can give him the opportunity to run the offense for this school," coach Anderson said of Diaz.

Kurtis Diaz, 34, started with Arkansas State in 2004 as a Wide Receiver on the team. He rarely got any playing time and opted not to continue his career as a professional and instead elected to spend the next two seasons as a Graduate Assistant under coach Steve Roberts, whom he also played for.

After graduating with his Master's, Roberts promoted him to Offensive Line coach, where Diaz would really get his start coaching. After Roberts left and was replaced with Hugh Freeze, Freeze interviewed Diaz and decided that he would be best fit for coaching his original group, Wide Receivers.

Over the next three seasons, Diaz would serve under three head coaches, Freeze, Gus Malzahn, and Bryan Harsin. Diaz would coach the Wide Receiver group for all three and help J.D. McKissic along as a Wide Receiver where he would break school records in 2012.

Once Blake Anderson was hired coach Diaz was moved to Quarterbacks where he would help Justice Hansen break school records as well. There's no doubt that Diaz has shown success at every position he's been in.

Diaz has said to be bringing in an Air Raid type offense that he likes to call the "Bombing Run". The Air Raid is already fast and high passing, but he wants it to be faster and even more passing. Which could be dangerous for a team of Arkansas State's caliber. Diaz has a pair of quarterbacks that could do it with Layne Hatcher and Logan Bonner, each with their own unique skill set. It will be an interesting season from the Red Wolves and we will soon see what coach Diaz has to offer for this offense.

              Arkansas State Roster Preview
              Quarterbacks
RS SO Layne Hatcher (80) returns for his second year starting. Last year he amassed an impressive 2,946 yards for 27 TDs and only 10 INTs while completing 65% of his passes. He should fit well into Coach Diaz's high octane offense. RS JR Logan Bonner (78) returns as the backup. He saw some time last year throwing for 1,052 yards, 10 TDs, and 1 INT. If Hatcher struggles. Bonner could be a solid second option for the Wolves. FR Brett Nezat (68) will be redshirted.

              Halfback/Fullback
JR Marcel Murray (81) returns as the starting halfback but will have a more limited role in Diaz's offense. He had 820 yards and 6 TDs last year, but will need to improve catching out of the backfield where he only had 15 receptions for 125 yards. RS SR Jamal Jones (75) ran for 375 yards and 3 TDs last year and only caught 6 passes out of the backfield, but he has a lot more speed than Murray and that could increase his playing time. RS JR Ryan Graham (72) had 23 carries for 134 yards and 2 TDs last year, but probably won't see that much except in goalline situations and possibly fullback. FR Lincoln Pare (60) will provide deep depth, while SO Isaiah Azubuike (70) will be redshirted.

              Wide Receiver/Tight End
SR Jonathan Adams Jr. (86) returns as the top receiver after catching 62 passes for 851 yards and 5 TDs. RS SR Brandon Bowling (80) looks to get a bigger role after only 28 receptions for 263 yards and 2 TDs the year prior. RS SR Dahu Green (77) will work out of the slot and hope to get more looks in Diaz's offense which will see the slot play an important role. JR Reed Tyler (80) and RS SR Javonis Isaac (80) will split time at Tight End as they look to get more involved in the offense than they were last year. Tyler had 8 receptions and Isaac only had 4. RS JR Roshauud Paul (79), RS SR Bubba Ogbebor (75), and RS JR Javan Hawes (76) will provide deep depth and see some rotational time at wide receiver. RS JR Leroy Deshazor (73) will see very little time this year and FR Corey Rucker (67) will be redshirted. RS SR Giles Amos (72), RS SO T.W. Ayers (72), and RS SR Ross Painter (69) will all provide deep depth at tight end and possibly have time at fullback.

              Offensive Line
JR Jarrett Horst (85), RS JR Andre Harris Jr. (81), RS SR Jacob Still (84), SR Ivory Scott (81), and JR Ernesto Ramirez (75) will be the starting lineman from left to right. RS SR Nour-Eddine Seidnaly (74) will be the primary backup. RS JR Justin Dutton (69) and RS JR Wyatt Luebke (68) will also be backups. JR Avery Demmons (67) and RS FR Ethan Miner (61) will be deep depth. FR Austin Woods (68) and FR Kyle Kelly (64) will redshirt this season.

              Top Defensive Talent
The defense will be lead up front by RS SR Forrest Merrill (84) at tackle with RS SR Noel Iwuchukwu (76) providing some pass rush.

SR Caleb Bonner (81) and RS SR Justin Rice (80) will be the main linebackers manning the middle of the field.

SR Tahj Herring-Wilson (79) and SO Jarius Remonenq (78) will man the outside at cornerback with JR Antonio Fletcher (83) covering over the top at safety.

              Special Teams
RS JR Blake Grupe (85) looks to get even better after a solid season last year going 19/22 for FG and 53/54 on XP. RS FR Ryan Hanson (70) will take over the punting duties. RS SR Bubba Ogebebor (75) and RS SR Jamal Jones (75) will handle returning for the year.

Turnovers Plague A-State as They Fall to Memphis in Paint Bucket Bowl

MEMPHIS, Tn. - The Arkansas State Red Wolves fell to the #24 Memphis Tigers on Saturday, 55-36. In Diaz's debut as offensive coordinator his offense showed that it was a high risk, high reward system and Arkansas State may not have the personnel to pull it off. Arkansas State had 8 total turnovers from their quarterbacks and it spelled doom, despite some valiant attempts at a comeback.

The Red Wolves would win the coin toss and start the game off hot as Bubba Ogbebor would return the opening kickoff of the season 101 yards for a touchdown and give Arkansas State the 7-0 lead. The lead wouldn't last long as Memphis would drive down the field quickly and answer with a 2 yard run by Rodrigues Clark to make it 7-7. We finally get to see the Arkansas State offense, but Layne Hatcher misses his receivers on two blatant overthrows that would see Arkansas State go three and out. Both teams would then exchange field goals to close out the first all tied up at 10-10.

The second quarter would start off with Hatcher getting a delay of game penalty followed immediately with an interception that would put Memphis at the Arkansas State 20. Memphis quarterback Brady White would find his receiver Ivory in the endzone to make it 17-10. Despite a good drive from Arkansas State, Hatcher would throw his second interception. The Red Wolves defense would stand tall and backup quarterback Logan Bonner would come in to replace Hatcher. On Bonner's first pass attempt, he would throw an interception as well and the Tigers would take over at the Arkansas State 5 yard line. Clark would run it up the middle for a TD on the very next play to make it 24-10, Memphis. Bonner would respond though, hitting seven of his next nine passes. On a 4th and 2 in Memphis territory, however, he would miss a wide open receiver and turn the ball over on downs. Memphis would drive the field and White would find Ivory once again to make it 31-10. Bonner would respond with a 37 yard pass to Dahu Green, followed by a 47 yard touchdown pass to Roshauud Paul to make it 31-17 before halftime.

After the half, Memphis would be unable to make any significant moves on their opening drive, but would pin Arkansas State at their own 2 yard line. It would not matter though as the Red Wolves would be able to drive the length of the field behind Bonner who would go 6 for 6 and throw a touchdown to the seventh wide receiver on the depth chart Leroy Deshazor to make it 31-24. The Arkansas State defense would hold Memphis again and Bonner would orchestrate another great drive that would be capped off by a 4 yard Jamal Jones touchdown run, but Blake Grupe would miss the extra point and that would leave it at 31-30.

This would lead to a very wild beginning of a fourth quarter. Memphis would drive down the field score on a 5 yard touchdown run by White to make it 38-30. Then Bonner would throw an interception, White would throw an interception back to Arkansas State, and Bonner would throw ANOTHER interception in the span of about five plays. Memphis would finally capitalize, scoring a touchdown with a 2 yard run by Clark to make it 45-30. Bonner would throw his fourth interception of the day and this one would be a pick six to Tyrez Lindsey to make it 52-30, Memphis. Bonner would throw a nice dump off pass to Reed Tyler on 4th down and Tyler would make a nice move and take it 56 yards inside the Memphis 10 yard line. Bonner finds Paul for his second touchdown of the game, but Bonner would be intercepted on the 2-point conversion and it would remain 52-36. Memphis would kick a field goal on their next drive to make it 55-36. Bonner would find Paul on a 39 yard pass to put them within striking distance, but would throw his fifth interception of the day and that would seal the game for Memphis.

A-State Holds on to Beat Troy in Final Minutes

JONESBORO, Ark. - Arkansas State was able to put together a much better game than last week, but it still took them until the final drive to ensure their 42-35 victory over Troy on Saturday. The biggest bright spot was that the offense really turned things around, only turning the ball over once. They allowed more success in the run game which opened up the pass much more, especially early on. Layne Hatcher also returned to start the game despite a poor performance early on in last week's game. The coaches decided that Hatcher gave them the best chance to win this week.

Arkansas State and Troy would trade punts early, before Troy would finally drive down the field and cap it off with a 3 yard B.J. Smith touchdown run to make it 7-0 early. Arkansas State would shift their focus to the run game on early downs. However, they were forced into a 3rd and long and Hatcher would find Jonathan Adams Jr. across the middle for a big first down completion. Hatcher would then find Brandon Bowling over the middle who would fight forward for a touchdown to tie it up at 7.

Troy would start the second quarter with a solid drive that would stall out and force them to kick a 25 yard field goal to put them up 10-7. Arkansas State would answer back with a good mix of run and pass before Hatcher would find Roshauud Paul for a 34 yard touchdown pass to make it 14-10, Arkansas State. The Red Wolves defense would force another Troy field goal attempt, but this one would be missed! Arkansas State would answer with Hatcher finding Adams Jr. for a 42 yard pass down the sideline to put them in the redzone and then hitting Adams Jr. on a beautiful fade route in the endzone for a touchdown. It would be 21-10 and Arkansas State's defense would force a Trojan fumble to give their offense another opportunity. Hatcher would find Jamal Jones on a 34 yard screen pass, Reed Tyler on a 25 yard pass in the middle of the field, and then cap it off with a 7 yard touchdown pass to Dahu Green to make it 28-10. This is the offense that Diaz has wanted to look like and with defensive help, Arkansas State could be a force in the Sun Belt.

It wouldn't be over yet though as Troy would punt it away and pin Arkansas State inside their own 5 yard line. Arkansas State would fight out of the hole, but Hatcher would throw his lone interception of the game to O'Shan Fletcher who undercuts Bowling on a comeback. Troy would then take advantage and score on a 26 yard pass from Gunnar Watson to Kaylon Geiger to make it 28-17 before half.

After the half, Troy and Arkansas State would trade punts until near the end of the third quarter when the Wolves' offense would drive down the field and run an option play that would see Jamal Jones score on a 9 yard run to make it 35-17. The fourth quarter wouldn't be the same though. The Arkansas State defense has gotten tired and they allow Troy to drive the length of the field and score on a Watson run. They would then make a two-point conversion to bring the game within ten, 35-25. Arkansas State would drive down the field with just under 5 minutes left, slowly and methodically, to tick down the clock and Hatcher would throw his fifth touchdown pass, his second to Bowling, and put the game nearly out of reach at 42-25. On Troy's next drive they get a huge pass that puts them near the goalline but it is fumbled and recovered by Arkansas State! It would backfire however as Hatcher would be sacked on the very next play for a safety to make it 42-27. Troy would then return the ensuing punt for a touchdown and complete the two-point conversion to make it 42-35. Troy is unable to come up with the onside kick and after some tough running from Marcel Murray, Arkansas State is able to secure the win.
