    Madden 21 OT rules

Tied at the end of the game, CPU team wins the toss. They drive down and kick a FG. I get the ball and start driving down the field, when the quarter time expires the game is over?

    I'm guessing it's a bug?

Same as nfl overtime rules. You had a chance to score but you didn't

In the NFL you only get one OT period to win the game unless it is tied at the end during the playoffs.

Except I didn't have a chance to score as I was driving when the time ran out in OT. I had a first and 10 on their 15 yard line as time expired.

So for the regular season this was correct but for postseason it would have continued for the duration of the possession?

Yes if it’s the playoffs the possession should have continued.

No if the other team had already kicked the FG and were up when time expired then he would still lose in the regular season or playoffs regardless of if he was driving or not.

I thought the same until I went and double checked the actual rules after he mentioned post season.

OVERTIME RULES FOR NFL POSTSEASON GAMES

Unlike preseason and regular season games, postseason games cannot end in a tie, so the overtime rules change slightly for the playoffs.

If the score is still tied at the end of an overtime period — or if the second team’s initial possession has not ended — the teams will play another overtime period. Play will continue regardless of how many overtime periods are needed for a winner to be determined.

Wait, so say a team is in overtime, they are behind by 3 after the other team scores a FG on the first possession. The clock is running down, and the team trailing by 3 doesn't even need to worry about stopping the clock or using their timeouts?

If they are first and goal from the 8 yard line with time running out they can just go to an extra quarter and take their time, run 3 plays to see if they can win with no fear of the clock running? That seems beyond weird to me. Especially because during the regular season if time runs out you lose.

                    It’s only for the postseason.

The postseason rule makes more sense than the regular season rule. A coin toss is purely luck. Each offense should get a fair chance. I'd rather see there be no game clock until both offenses have either kicked a FG or had their 1 possession. Just have s play clock. Once each team had their possession, then have a a game clock counting down. But that's another discussion.

Yeah the non-postseason rule is magnified in Madden because we typically play with shorter quarters. This is the first time I've had the clock run out before my full possession, I was thinking I would be able to continue my drive after the clock ran out but now I know the rule.

That's true, but how often do two possessions consume a full quarter? It seems like a situation that would only come up extremely rarely.
Bills, Sabres, Illini, Cubs, basically any team that abuses its fanbase and I'm there.

Aren't overtime quarters 10 minutes? It's possible for a team to have an extended drive and eat up 7-8 minutes leaving the other team to execute a 2 minute drill.

                              Re: Madden 21 OT rules

Apparently for some ******** reason in this POS poor excuse of a fb game called madden 21....ot rules are as follows:

The first team to score a td wins OR a fg wins ONLY if the other team has gotten the ball once and gone 4 and out REGARDLESS if OT time expires....which IS NOT the official NFL RULES.

Becuase common fkn sense says that when OT expires whoever has the higher score (i.e. fg) will win...otherwise wtf is the point of the OT clock in the first place.

But becuz this is fkn madden [emoji2959] the sh*t is fkn retarted and I just learned the hard way that wat I thought was incorrect.

After hella bs on madden's part (the usual....random for no reason fumble...dum fkn sh*t on def that works to my opponent's favor that would never happen irl) I on my goat Tom Brady sh*t with 40 sec to go got into fg range kicked a 56 yarder and forced OT.

Then I won the coin toss.

Then thru expert play calling I not only got to within the 1 yard line at the goal; I did so by also exhausting the entire 5 min OT quarter. So its 3rd and 1 at the goal and I intentionally choose to kick the fg for wat I thought was the win.

                              Nope.

He gets the ball back time expires and a new OT begins. He scores the td. I fkn lose.

Beyond pissed. I can't even tell u. Obviously if I knew that; I woulda qb snuck it on 3rd 1. I was eaten dude all day on the run so it woulda ben no probs to punch it in at the 1 yrd line.

It is bs like this among other things (the qb throw mechanics that will cause u to thro ints u didn't thro and ******** sh*t on d like the ball bobbling around/floating in the air and his man catches it for the completion or def AI just acting fkn ********) that has caused me to never buy another fkn madden game again on God.

I will play madden 21 until EA fkn discontinues the servers. [emoji2959][emoji2959][emoji2959]
