I am playing coach mode and let the cpu call my plays. Whv does my QB (mahomes) just keep drifting back until he gets sacked instead of throwing it away? Cpu QB does the same thing.

QB AI is broken in that regard on the current gen version of the game. Something happens that causes the issue and EA hasn't been able to fix it or just doesn't care to fix it on current gen. Thankfully it doesn't happen on the next gen version of the game, but that obviously doesn't help you here.
I've noticed it happening on plays like curls where the WR's finish their routes and are on a delay before they can freelance. The QB doesn't know what to do if someone on those type of routes is not wide open.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

Qbs aren't aggressive enough to throw into tight coverage. Amd instead of rolling out to find time they'll run backwards. There's some traits and ratings to modify to stop this from happening as much though but it pretty much means turning your QB into an improvised or scrambling archetype.

It's a lot better on next-gen. QB movement, throwing away before being sacked, and taking chances downfield, are all much better.Comment
