The game was going backwards after losing Spear and Josh to be honest.

The game was so far behind and in all reality, a 3D football game is just DOA without proper funding and team size, you can’t just have 1 guy doing it for 4 years. You gotta get others involved in the actual development in a scale of this size.

With EAs announcement of College Football, it was all but done.

I agree with everything BleedingRed said  above. I hate to hear it because I was rooting on the little guys here but I'm not surprised, especially after EA's announcement. But I do thank them for giving us something to try and support.

Once Spear left, I was done.

This is a shame, but was inevitable. Wonder what bandwagon RM will jump on now

And then there was One. I was hoping that 2K would buy them out and build on the foundation. It was certainly a noble attempt at trying to bring something new. Ultimately , a noble attempt did nothing to quench my thirst for a good football game. The game would have great on Dreamcast, but as far as today's standards, It didn't meet it! Oh well

I agree it was a noble attempt. It showed promise and good ideas. I can deal with the lower graphics but the gameplay was atrocious and even the simulated stats and schedules were wonky.

I appreciate someone really cracking hard on trying to make something grass-roots in something as tough as sim sports, and it always sucks when anyone in game development loses their job or their studio.

That said, these games were pretty terrible and fundamentally busted every which way, but it's actually a very good case study in showing how deeply difficult and complex making a game, period, even one as erronous as this. Looking at these games is a good way to appreciate how much work and manpower it takes to make a game of this scale, even one that couldn't match its ambition like Maximum Football. Best of luck to everyone involved going forward.

Welp, that was $60 well spent the past two years. I maybe played what, three games in total?

I wanted to support, but them folding with 2K and EA coming back into the mix in their own ways was the writing on the wall for them. Or at least, enough for Spear.

Spear was the reason a lot of us gave them the chance in the first place and then decided to support them again the next year. I can't say I played it much. I didn't. Gameplay couldn't hold me. I wanted it to but it didn't.

Would I have bought it again this year? I don't know. Most likely not. But once new info came out who knows? Spear being gone was always going to hurt my excitement level for the title.

But as I said in an earlier post I'm glad I did support a little studio that was giving it a shot. And they did come up with some cool generic logos for the fictional college football world. It is sad that the gameplay never could catch up with their ideas.

This is pretty sad news. I must admit I've been on the fence with their more recent game but have really wanted to buy it. For me I'm always interested in the dynasty mode more than the on field gameplay. Nothing has ever captured the same feel for me as NFL Head Coach 09 but I was hoping one of these small developers like Maximum or Axis might step up and give a similar off field experience, despite the limitations on field when compared to the juggernaut that is Madden.

Would anyone recommend still buying this game simply for the dynasty mode and to at least show a little bit of support to the development team?

The support was for future titles. There won't be anymore, so there isn't really anything left to support.

This game does not have enough to warrant a purchase for its gameplay or dynasty mode IMO. Take it from somebody who purchased the last two (mostly to support the company).

My sentiments are like those above. I bought the last two versions to support the project, but rarely played the game. I had high hopes, but the product remained pretty unimpressive. I was really hoping it would continue to develop, so this is sad news. I wish David well in his future!

I felt about another 2-3 cycles and they would nail this game. As been said here, I want to like this game but it's flaws hold it back. Still too stilted and robotic. But it was a good game to have, I just never found it interesting enough to totally pull me in.
