    Press release.

EA SPORTS PGA TOUR Will Feature “Golf’s Original Championship” in High Fidelity, Celebrating The Open’s Rich History

Players Will Compete on The Old Course at St Andrews Links for the Chance to Win the Claret Jug and Champion Golfer of the Year Title

REDWOOD CITY, CALIF. -- July 14, 2021 - Today, Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA) and The R&A announced their plans to celebrate the historic Championship’s 150th edition in EA SPORTS[emoji769] PGA TOUR[emoji769]. The Open Championship[emoji769] – Golf’s original Championship played on the ‘Home of Golf,’ the Old Course – will be featured in high fidelity through the return of the storied St Andrews Links in EA SPORTS PGA TOUR, celebrating huge milestones while honoring the course’s long history in the game when it releases in Spring 2022.

Inspired by The Open’s rich history and historic 150th championship, EA SPORTS looks to its own long history of making golf video games since 1990 to inspire their next generation golf experience. In addition to playing the Old Course at St Andrews Links, EA SPORTS PGA TOUR players can also look forward to the return of fan favorite gameplay elements such as the three-click swing method which will make its return alongside analog and brand-new swing mechanics which will be detailed further in the coming months.

“We could not be happier to partner with EA to bring golfers and players from all over the world to our celebration of The 150th Open via EA SPORTS PGA TOUR,” said Martin Slumbers, Chief Executive of The R&A. “EA SPORTS plays an important role in taking golf to a wider audience through its highly realistic and immersive game.”

Steeped in tradition and over 160 years of golf history, crowning its first champion in 1860, The Open is known as golf’s original championship. The Championship celebrates its past while knowing that it has led to this step; commencing the next 160 years by bringing renowned players together once again for their chance to win the Claret Jug and the title of Champion Golfer of the Year.

The Open will be just one of the majors players will experience in next-generation authenticity via EA’s Frostbite engine[emoji769], adding to the extensive EA SPORTS history of creating best-in-class golf games. Along with the ultra-realistic addition of the Old Course at St Andrews Links, EA SPORTS PGA TOUR will also render the Royal and Ancient Clubhouse and the Swilcan Bridge in stunning next-gen visuals through the proprietary Frostbite engine.

EA SPORTS PGA TOUR is the exclusive home of all four of golf’s major championships: the Masters Tournament, PGA Championship[emoji769], U.S. Open Championship, and The Open. In addition to playing the major championships, golf fans can also live out a legendary career as they authentically compete at THE PLAYERS Championship and FedExCup Playoffs, while experiencing the unique atmosphere and venues of each tournament.

Can’t find any player quotes either... thought for sure it would be a paid Rory quote.

The last Hot Shots game not Everybody's Golf had an interesting variation on the click style. Glad to see it make it in the game however it is implemented. It would be nice if you can choose 3 click for swing and some type of analog similar to HB for putting.

EA just killing it. Thank god. So sick of 2K (HB Studios rather) and their new vision, they were so much better when the game initially launched (not gameplay wise of course)

Agreed. 2k is awful pga tour wise. As just a golf game and course creator it is solid. As far a pga licenses go they failed big time.

This is really great to see.

It's very smart to still support three click, and it's VERY good to hear there will be some "brand new swing mechanics" for Analog - given how sort of "meh" the Rory swing was.

2K is probably going to need to add 3C I think.

Yes, very good to hear... Maybe some if the math is coming back. Like to hit a 80 percent shot it takes into account the analog stick like TW 14 did.

Also wonder how they could utilize duel sense on ps5 controller... Maybe an OPTION to have the controller vibrate or something during huge putts to win or something.

I have thought about that exact same thing after reading that I think a basketball game? maybe uses it for some aspects of "feeling your defender" and perhaps other elements?

A lot of really cool new interactions and sensations and feedback are possible there. The only problem is that it's only something on the PS side for now, so I do wonder how much effort they'd put into that.

I don’t know if you remember but Rory 15 had ‘Bose heartbeat moments’ and the controller rumble felt just like a heartbeat.
Even that during big putts would be a neat option. If executed properly and not for a 4 foot par putt on hole 3.

I don't actually mind that Royal St. George's isn't in the game. If I had to pick only 2 Open rota courses, they'd be St. Andrews and Carnoustie, hands-down. Of course, this announcement suggests there's only 1 Open rota course, but whatever. Long way to go until next year.

I see them adding another post launch... now free or not I don’t know but I see Royal Troon getting in.

LOL Who is writing this stuff, and who is it aimed at? That's like saying "in addition to the course at Pebble Beach itself, EA Sports PGA Tour will feature the Pebble Beach Clubhouse and hotel off of the 18th green and the big tree between 6 & 7, which are two iconic elements of the grounds". How is a stone bridge which is on the course itself a "feature" separate from the course? Or a building that doesn't even come into play that is off of 1-tee/18-green? If anything, it would make more sense to announce that the St Andrews Hotel is 'featured' in the game, since that building is actually in play on the course.

                              So stupid.
