Re: Madden NFL 22 Podcast - How Star-Driven AI Has Enhanced Offline Experience

If you've been keeping up with all of the Blogs, Podcasts, and Interviews there really won't be a lot of new info here, but IMO it is still worth a listen.

Swami says that that have done a lot of tuning of super sim and you will see appropriate simulated rushing Yards for Lamar Jackson in Franchise.

He didn't really get to talk about it as much as I think he wanted to, but Clint seemed pretty excited about Star Driven AI, thinks that it is a nice step forward. He still says that All-Pro is best representation of Authentic AI,(I know that many here might agree with him, but I'm saying that for OS vets it's going to be All-Madden)

He says that tacking improvements are a highlight of the dev cycle is really excited about it(I agree that it is great), risk for using wrong tackles is really high now i.e. trying to hit stick Derrick Henry up high with a smaller player.

Recaptured a lot the animations in the blocking game, get engaged moves, blocking loops, shed moves, and non engaged moves, all will help create a much more dynamic forming pocket. Did a lot of work to Respect momentum(just like with tackling) so variation of engagements will be much greater and suction will be decreased, i.e. defenders won't turn into the blocker if engaged from an angle.

Really proud of the improvements in the screen game blocking. Linemen will chip the pass rusher first now before letting him get to the QB, linemen will have better speed and angles when getting out into space so that the don't get over/under leveraged as much, also if the D is in man coverage linemen can now block whoever is assigned to the RB so that he doesn't just blow the play up easily all the time.

Says that pass coverage is the basically the hardest to tune/balance every year, especially with the complex nature of coverage rules these days, building in error is very difficult. Say that User controlled defenders not playing their assignment will mess up the other AI defenders in pass coverage a lot.

Turning up the sideline is super improved on catching, more independent interaction between WR DB, Pass Trajectory has been tuned to allow for higher trajectories.

Clint will return in a couple of weeks to talk about Beta feedback tuning.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

These podcasts have been fantastic. Enjoyed every one so far. Have to think next week’s big announce will be something scouting related. We shall see.

I say it every week, but these podcasts are awesome. Clint's notes about the screen game, oline play, pass depth, etc were sick. Just a great pod all around. Everyone should be listening to these.

Looking forward to what I'm assuming is the scouting podcast next week and glad to hear we're getting a pod in the future about beta feedback & fixes.

It would be nice to see the AI utilize their star players. Too many times over the years big time wide receivers that should be able to impact the game and be tough to stop barely get targeted and the CPU just force feeds their tight end. I can't remember the last time I was actually concerned about a star CPU player...

Re: Madden NFL 22 Podcast - How Star-Driven AI Has Enhanced Offline Experience

The fact that the OL now have the ability to block the guy in man coverage on the RB on screen plays is nice. It was always infuriating to watch my OL or the CPU's OL let a screen play get stopped or even lead to a turnover simply because the OL ignored the one guy there who was covering the RB. If it works well this will be a great change. No more MLB running right by 3 OL to get to the back or ball on screens.

I will say that I am probably too excited over the fact that they simply have touch down animations now. I always hated how a guy lying on the ground would lead to defenders running full speed into them and then the play being whistled dead. It was awkward, it looks horrible. APF 2k8 had animations back in 2007 for this and I always thought they were an excellent touch. They are such a small thing overall, but they really do add to the look and feel of the game when they occur appropriately. And hearing they have a variety of them like a guy trying to get up quickly gets pushed back down is nice.

It's paying attention to details like that and making momentum play a bigger role in animations that always made 2k the better animated games. I still have my issues with how boom or bust the OL blocking can be in this game, but I think over the last 2-3 years that all new animations that have been added are at a quality significantly higher than anything Madden has ever had before and they rival 2k football. There are a lot of blocking animations in the game now that blow old Maddens out of the water and are honestly better than what 2k8 even had.

The key is for EA to keep replacing their old low quality animations with animations that are as high quality as the newest animations the last few years and to pair those with more authentic game mechanics and locomotion like they've been doing. They continue to do that and Madden will be on the right track on the field.
“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

Seeing it right now (and have been seeing it all cycle) on Madden 21 NG

                    Bengals (me) vs Browns

Mayfield has hit OBJ for 2 receptions 67 yards 2TD

                    In the first half

                    Landry 3 receptions for 24

Kareem Hunt (Chubb hurt in hisnfirst carry) 5 receptions 30 yards 11 carries 71 yards

Star players are being targeted plenty.

                    All-Pro with my custom sliders.

Vast improvement from the PS4 Maddens in every way.

So excited for Madden 22 because it is going to be that much better on and off the gridiron.
