Small 2K22 nugget from Eric Boenish

I'm not familiar with this youtuber but I found this interesting. It's from an event in Japan for Rui Hachimara. Eric starts at 1:30 mark. The 2:05 mark is interesting. Could 2K22 separate the shot and dunk button like Live way back? I'd personally love that. I want to put in work in the paint while not necessarily going up with a post shot or layup.

I'm getting too old for that method. At this age I need simple [emoji23]. But I'm sure other would enjoy a change like that.

2K is usually good with the options so hopefully it can be toggled off if they do separate it. At it's core though 2K has played the same for 20 years now. Some games, like NBA2K8/College Hoops2K8, had a smaller window in the paint and you would take a jumpshot unless you were directly under the basket. I feel like around 2K11 virtually everything past the free throw line triggered a layup/dunk. You cant really play CP3s game in the halfcourt in 2K. This could change that.

It might depend on which way you're moving the stick and whether or not you're holding turbo. I actually end up taking jumpers right at the dotted semicircle sometimes without meaning to, so I think it's possible.

Not trying to hiijack the thread. But Jr I agree with you to a point. But like VictorMG said. It could work. I think the current problem is either the way defense works or the way a pick and roll works. It's the snake Dribble and put them in jail or hand cuff. CP3, Luka, Trae, basically all the top pick and rollers use this stuff. But you can't do it in this game.

It's just alot of thinking in my opinion. I don't even like that they change the shooting stick to only down to shoot jumpers. Cycle is about to end. And I'm still messing that up here and there.

Now this is something I would embrace! And if it is true, hopefully it bodes well for more passing options

Any more control they can give over the outcomes is significant improvement in my book. The problem is I don't really believe it until I see it. The last time they gave us more control was in 2k18 which was my favorite but everyone else hated it. The more freedom of movement also resulted in more clipping and 2k has always been about it looking like basketball more than feeling like basketball.

What he said around 2:05 sounds like shot aiming.

We already have r2 as a modifier to trigger dunks/layups.

I hope we get more control over dunks this year like we had years ago.

                  RT + Up= Normal/Signature dunk

                  RT + Left= Flashy dunk

                  RT + Right= Power dunk

                  RT + Down= Reverse dunk

Then 2k11 came and changed it up a bit.

                  RT + up= Normal/signature/flashy/power dunk

RT + left= Hop step dunk

RT + right= Rim hang dunk

                  RT + down= Reverse/spin dunk

I'm not a fan of todays dunk controls....not enough variety with the current setup...

EDIT: If I recall we had to spin the stick for a 360 dunk lol see we had some more variety years ago.

The thing is, though, it's important to be able to go up with the correct hand on a drive, so left/right corresponding to your shooter's hand on dunks and layups is imperative IMO.

As far as the different gathers, you can just use the buttons to do the gather and continue holding turbo, which will allow you to dunk afterwards if there's little enough traffic.

It's just an issue of only having so many buttons on the controller, which does suck sometimes, this being one of them.

I hated last year's shot stick mix with dribble moves was corny and didn't make sense.

I been shooting with the shot stick for years but in 21 I had to stick with the square button because I kept doing dribble moves when I'm trying to shoot with shot stick smh

2k should also add a standing Dunk button but position and fatigue should play a big role

You still have control over dunks. Up is two hands, left is left hand, right is right hand, down is flashy

Really? Seems convoluted. The controls have been fine for years up until 2K21. I'd rather see them refine the gameplay itself, than worry about a new control scheme.

What with The kooky shot aiming, and now the possible separation of shot and dunk buttons, I think I may just say goodbye to the future games now, and stick with 2k20. Hell, may even head back to the mount Rushmore with 2k16.

I mean, it is possible to do both. And it's not a whole new control scheme as much as just a singular change, maybe with another change to replace an old input.

This more controls crap is a turnoff to me. I prefer less. And it makes it impossible to play with a friend who doesn’t have 2K. The learning curve is ridiculous for a basketball game.
