No New Classic Teams?
Seems like we will not be getting any new classic teams this year. This really sucks because it is the 75th anniversary and I thought they would add a couple to celebrate. Who knows, maybe they will have a some be DLC during the NBA season.Tags: None -
Re: No New Classic Teams?
They don't make 2k any money, so it's doubtful we'll see anything that doesn't revolve around online gameplay and VC.
I'll be happy to be wrong, for sure.
So long as there's some legit retro teams added, instead of teams that were around in the last few 5 years, but that's just my preference.-----------------------------------------

Re: No New Classic Teams?
Plenty of folks do, but mainly offline players/roster makers in my experience.
Of course, we're in a minority compared to those of you who love today's league and play the game for all the current day stars, but for some of us - the classic teams is the only reason we buy the game.
I'd personally never purchase 2k again if they ditched the legends.
If anything, it's the minefield of legalities and player rights that prevent more teams/players from being added, but as I said - 2k is all about online stuff and virtual dress up myplayers than anything else, so stuff like classic teams is always gonna take a back seat whilst lil Jimmy is paying bucks for VC to buy a silly hat and rucksack he can put on his created player at the park.....-----------------------------------------

Re: No New Classic Teams?
To be fair though, 2K only pushed the classic teams the year of the NBA lockout back in 2011 (2K12). There was no certainty that there would even be a real NBA season so the game had to have some selling point. It was great and I loved it too. My thing is, we have all these teams and stuff, just give us some tools like era filters, TV presentations from the different era's and rule changes to mimic whatever period we like for MyNBA. That's all, and I think most of us that enjoy the old teams would be happy.

Lol 2K needs to improve the ones they already have. They added the 19 Raptors in 2K21 and didn’t even bother to give them their proper jerseys, and this was a team from 2 years ago.Comment

Re: No New Classic Teams?
The only value is by having the legends and classic players in My Team. For those of us looking for more classic teams we basically have to hope that 2k is able to sign more and more players for My Team and then add corresponding teams based on the rosters they can create. They don't make 2k any money, so it's doubtful we'll see anything that doesn't revolve around online gameplay and VC.

Re: No New Classic Teams?
Hell...if they add Lance Stephenson to the Classic Pacers Team, I would be happy. I would have the original Starting 5 and a decent bench to work with where I can have good substitutions.Last edited by ksuttonjr76; 09-07-2021, 02:37 PM.Comment

That 2014 Pacers team was so nice in 2K18. One of my favorites to play with.Comment

Re: No New Classic Teams?
Classic teams got face updates throughout year, as well as players added when they obtained their rights, which isn'talways in their control. They even included classic PA with their addition this year.
Man, I'm a PNO player, I'm really not trying to hear about this section being ignored, We'd love to be "ignored" this much [emoji1787]
I do agree with the QA stuff though (i.e David Wesley having Posterizer).....also the long requested era filters would definitely be nice. I just wouldn't expect another 2K12 type showcase anytime soon.

Re: No New Classic Teams?
Totally nit-picking here but classic teams first appeared in NBA 2K11 (aka October 2010), a year prior to the NBA lockout. That was the year of The Jordan Challenge. Moreover, if VGSales Wiki is to be trusted, 2K11 more than doubled sales over its predecessor (2K10), not too shabby for midway through a console generation. To be fair though, 2K only pushed the classic teams the year of the NBA lockout back in 2011 (2K12). There was no certainty that there would even be a real NBA season so the game had to have some selling point. It was great and I loved it too. I always figured 2K was probably planning on building on the success of the Jordan Challenge one way or another in 2K12 and it was probably at least semi-coincidental that they happened to also see a lockout looming. I figured the Legends DLC that year was probably a direct response to the lockout though.
I'm with you on everything else. I always understand the money argument behind production but at the same time, NBA 2K is still a piece of art, and as a result I think it's okay to push for them to explore creative forays that may not result in a flood of people buying VC but might still be really radical, authentic, and fulfilling.
To a degree, in this instance I subscribe to the notion of, "If you build it, they will come."
I honestly feel the same way about the implementation of the dunk contest. Nobody cares about All-Star Weekend in NBA 2K because All-Star Weekend in NBA 2K has always been awful. It's a feedback loop. But if 2K actually found a way to re-create the fun and enjoyment of NBA Live's All-Star Weekend, you could be talking about a wonderful addition.Comment
