Does anyone have tips for beating closeouts on 22 Next Gen

Once I beat the initial defender, and the defensive starts to rotate I am having trouble beating sprint closeouts. Meaning the defender is sprinting from the paint to the 3 point line full speed, and then when I try to triple threat or angle around them while they are sprinting at me I can not.

I have learned ways to get around the initial defender from time to time, but the closeouts I have not.

Any pointers or tips would be welcome

I have the same issue for pick and pop plays, I might experiment and increase pass speed so that the ball gets to the receiver faster.

      What’s good alabamarob — it’s been a minute bro!

I’d recommend a strong pump fake once the defense starts to scramble and is rushing towards you. 2K did a really good job of getting the defense to bite once they are out of position and desperate. From there, you can either get to the paint, draw a foul, or let the defense rotate and find the open shooter.

The windows of opportunity are tighter than last year, but the pump fake is a game changer this year.

Shot fake and drive. They have shot contests way up and 99 for a lot of people. I had to lower in sliders down to 35 to get balance as they were biting on the pump fake all the time and a bit too much for my liking. But I love that they do!

Edit: just saw post above me after I posted.

I have been able to get the shot fake to work. But, I am talking about when the defender is running at me full speed, and I have the ball. Have you all had success with simply using their momentum against them and dribbling around the cpu defender?

If I have Drummond sprinting at Trae Young from the paint, I am unable to simply dribble around him without making a pumpfake.

          What up Never. Longtime homie.

I used to be nice with Gallo on the pick and pop. I stink with it this year. I anticipate it will take me a month to even be decent this year. Ha

Hmmmm…. I’d have to get a few games in today and report back to you. I can’t recall enough instances where I was attempting use the defenders momentum of a close-out to get to the rim.

I’ll try to get some games in today and see what my results are.

                2 things…

1 - Are you playing on broadcast view? If so, I do and had trouble at 1st and had to take a slight angle to turn around the closeout.

2 - But I changed sliders to allow freedom of movement so you might not be able too with that out of box with sticky defense.

Usually I go into scrimmage mode, get into 4 out 1 in and I adjust sliders until I can drive and kick with freedom on closeouts but where I get stopped by people I should. Then I tweak up cpu help d strength to 100 and defensive awareness to 100. More like real basketball and the funny thing is the cpu has pretty good scramble logic and is intelligent when you up that so they could get away from the sticky d. The help and scramble is good on high levels… off subject but on if it makes sense… lol

That is intended and called "improved perimeter defense". What I really liked about 2k21 was that beating a defender and defending the 1on1 relied heavily on angles of attack and giving up space to contain the ballhandler. This sadly is gone in 2k22 in favor of animation heavy glue-defense.
