Need help before I give up

Havent played NBA 2k in quite a few years. Got it for $30 and am trying to play MyCareer on PS4.

I will freely admit that I am not a good player, sort of rely on a few moves and shooting. I am SUPPOSED to be a mid-range/DEF guy.
Regrettably bought some VC to get shooting about 80.
    I am finding thought..
    1. ZERO open space. CPU plays man to man and I always have a defender in front of me. ALWAYS. Try pick and rolls and it almost always gets picked up.
No plays are designed for any open looks so every jump shot is highly contested. Think I am shooting under 20%.
    2. Every player is faster than me.
    3. no fast break points, ever.

I dont see a sliders in MyCareer, just adjust difficulty.

Is this the game now or do I just have to figure out have to get good.

    Too frustrating to play.

Sorry for the rant but Im too old to put hours into this game. Just want to enjoy it, and its not fun. I do enjoy realism so better D if fine, but this is a bit over they top.

Just create a Center and go into the paint every game. Use him to farm VC for other builds.

Play on rookie and work your way up.

Most importantly: Lower both CPU and User JUMP SHOT DEFENSIVE STRENGTH sliders down to 15-25. It’ll make a world of difference. The defense actually becomes not good enough once you get the hang of it.

I don't think you mentioned what position you are. If you're a PG, running plays for yourself might help.

I don't think you can play on rookie difficulty on MyCareer? But you can play the lowest difficulty which is Pro.

Plus get your badges, they'll help as well.
