Looking for honest thoughts on this, please. ... I'm an older guy with a PS4 that I purchased years ago just to play MLB The Show and I've greatly enjoyed playing the show for years now. That said, is MLB The Show 22 for the PS5 enough of an upgrade over MLB The Show 22 for the PS4 to justify purchasing a PS5? I asked the manager at a local GameStop and he says the difference in the PS5 and PS4 versions of MLB The Show 22 isn't worth purchasing a PS5 this year just to play the PS5 version. He says he thinks MLB The Show 23 for the PS5 will be a big upgrade over MLB The Show 22 for the PS5, and he says I should just wait until next year to purchase a PS5 if MLB The Show is the only game I play. ... Thanks for any honest input.

If you get the pulse 3D headset and have a decent tv/monitor then the PS5 honestly is a good investment. There probably won’t be huge differences for a few more years, but you will definitely have a lot of fun with the show and any other PS5/PS4 games.NFL - Las Vegas Raiders
NBA - Los Angeles Lakers
MLB - Los Angeles Dodgers
NHL - Los Angeles Kings
MLS - Los Angeles Galaxy

Re: Should I Get A PS5 For MLB The Show 22
Buy the new system strictly for this years game?... I wouldn't. Eventually you won't have a choice because they'll quit making the game for the older systems, but who knows when that'll be? Next year there might be enough disparity between the versions of the different systems to justify the purchase, but we just don't know that yet.Comment

Re: Should I Get A PS5 For MLB The Show 22
I think it depends on your financial situation too.
Personally, the only reason I bought a PS5 was because my PS4 was acting like it was about to give up the ghost and I thought buying another PS4 when the PS5 is already out probably wasn't the best investment.
That and my income tax return arrived at the exact right time...
Personally, I'm loving The Show 22 on PS5 but I think a lot of it really depends..some people prefer the PS4 version for SOTSNCAA: Kentucky Wildcats
MLB: Atlanta Braves
NBA: San Antonio SpursComment

Re: Should I Get A PS5 For MLB The Show 22
Personally I have a PS5 but I find myself playing the PS4 version more for the Sounds of the Show. Having played both versions, albeit both on PS5 console, I don't think there is enough disparity between the two to justify dropping $500+ on the new console.
If you're wanting a next gen experience and don't mind digital, I'd recommend the Xbox Series S (I think that the digital one)
Best Buy around me has them in stock quite often at a $300 price tag.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

I mean, you'll definitely get various answers on this one. But I bought a PS5 specifically for this game and the amount of hours I spend playing it all year, totally worth it.Last edited by jcar0725; 04-22-2022, 02:27 PM.JUUUUUUUST A BIT OUTSIDEComment

I mean, I guess it depends on how and how much you play the game.
If you just menu surf through franchise mode or something like that, it's pretty pointless....menu screens are menu screens.
If you play 100s of games a year...it's worth it for the improved fidelity (specifically the framerates).
I know some have suggested an XBox Series S...I would do HEAVY research into that before buying - I've heard a very mixed bag of impressions in terms of performance issues (maybe see if Digital Foundry did a review of this year's game).Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

But I literally bought a Series S for my bedroom to play it in there as well a few days ago, and I it looks and plays great, except I do get some frame rate issues on foul balls. Not every foul ball, but maybe about a quarter of the time. Haven't seen any real issues frame rate wise other than that. It can be jarring when you see it, but for $300 and pretty much a next-gen experience, it's hard to beat if you can overlook some frame rate issues on some foul balls. It doesn't really happen when the ball is in play.
I should also point out that I'm using the system on a 60hz TV. So that could be part of it as well. So I have no way to see what it's like in 120hz unless I plug the system into my LG C1 in my living room.Last edited by PVarck31; 04-22-2022, 04:07 PM.Comment

This is what I have. Best console I've ever had! Can't beat the price and availability as well.Comment

Re: Should I Get A PS5 For MLB The Show 22
Only you can determine what a purchase is "worth".
But to answer your question in MY opinion..
No. Not a chance. And no 23 won't be any better. Even if it were, there would be absolutely no way for anyone, certainly not a Gamestop seller, to be able to know about with any certainty. Right now, there is no reason to think 23 will have anything more than incremental improvements. Certainly nothing worth buying a console for.Comment

Re: Should I Get A PS5 For MLB The Show 22
MNSportsEditor - This is a personal decision for you, my advice is to consider the following two factors.
1. How much of a hardcore fan of the game are you?
2. What is your financial situation?
With respect to number one I was playing 22/ps5 last night and hit a line drive that just barely cleared the shortstop and fell in for a base hit. In past versions of the game that ball normally gets caught by the left fielder. It took my breath away, if you upgrade there will be many moments like this.
As far as number two goes you indicate that you are older. If I may assume some degree of financial success on your part the expense is mitigated. For the cost of a weekend getaway you can have the best version of your favorite game as well as a bitchin’ console that will last for years.
Whatever you decide you can’t lose as 20 is a great game too…
Good gaming.Comment
