    MLB.TV

Has anybody had a subscription to MLB.TV in the past? I'm considering maybe a one month subscription, say in April, to see how it streams live (as opposed to streaming a World Series game that was played over 4 months ago). Though I'm interested if anybody else has had any experiences.

    Re: MLB.TV

They had a free demo during Spring Training one year, and I got to watch a couple games. I'm not sure what it looks like for full screen, but when I was watching on my other old slower computer, I had no problems at all. I may end up getting it this year but havent made a final decision yet.

Does anybody know what you need to watch classic games on there?

      Re: MLB.TV

Last year's video seemed worse to me than any year before. This year they're offering higher speeds with the Premium package. I'll probably go with the Premium this year just cuz I love watching the games, although I'm not sure if it's worth it.

        Re: MLB.TV

I've had it the past two years and I love it. I wish they didn't create the premium thing and made the higher speeds available to all subscribers, but it's the MLB so I am not surprised. Regardless, video quality is usually pretty good, though I prefer not to watch on full screen, partly because it distorts the picture too much and partly because I'm usually working when I watch it so I can look at multiple applications. If you're really into watching it full screen, then I would say go ahead with the premium, (it also includes MLB.tv Mosaic, which is 6 live games on 1 screen!).

Before subscribing though, you should check out the blackout rules. I get blacked out of Reds and Indians which I expected (but is ok because I can watch them on cable) but I also get blacked out of Pirates, Cubs and White Sox games as well, which makes no sense to me whatsoever.

Regardless, for the baseball junkie, MLB.tv is the fix.

You don't even have to subscribe to MLB.TV to watch the classic games from Baseball's Best. You can do a 24 hr pass by paying I think 3 bucks US with your credit card.

As for a subscription to MLB.TV I had it one year and thought it was quite good. I just wish there weren't blackout rules but I understand why it's in effect. Since i'll probably have MLB:EI this summer it doesn't matter too much for me. I don't even really have a team I want to watch too too much, probably the Brewers.

Mmm, it sounds like I might subscribe to check it out. I wonder what the blackout rules are like in Toronto though.

It says that all of Canada is blacked out for Blue Jay games.

Which is what keeps me from buying it since I watch the Jays almost exclusively. I do like the fact that with the blackout games you can watch them 24 hrs later but with the way the baseball schedule is, it doesn't make sense to when 24 hrs later is another live game.

I don't see how blacking out the entire country from seeing Blue Jay games can be beneficial to MLB. I guess it has something to do with Toronto being the only Canadian team, but it seems dumb to black out everyone.

I agree it makes no sense. but look at it this way, the majority of games broadcasted on TV are nationally televised. So it's not like folks in Canmore Alberta can't catch the game easily.

Damn, blacking out Jays games has lost my interest in this. I guess I wont be able to watch them when I'm at school.

I'll be going the Premium route this season since Time Warner Cable in Milwaukee will no longer have the Extra Innings package. I can still watch the Brewers on t.v and I'll watch the Yankees on my computer.

I'll be doing the same so I can watch my Mets this year... I shouldn't have any blackout issues here in North Carolina.

For those with concerns about the different blackouts, there are ways around it. It's not a problem for me since the games I'm blacked out of I can usually watch on TV (Reds and Indians on local tv; Cubs and White Sox on WGN; who cares about the Pirates?) but there are ways around the blackout rules. Others know better than me, but I believe we had a thread on it last year.
