If 2 teams would be added in the AL (to have a 32 club league), which towns do you think can host a new franchise????

Re: Expansion
Good article on markets for expansion
Expansion is not likely to happen soon, however. Also, I think this should be moved to the Pro Baseball forum.Comment

Re: Expansion
1. Indianapolis, IN joins the AL Central, making both Centrals 6-team leagues (and waters down the Twins schedule a bit for a couple years) Possible names: Hoosiers, Flatlanders, Ice Storms, Tornadoes
2. Portland, OR joins the AL West making it a 5-team league and a rivalry develops with Seattle over time. Possible names: Hippies, Commune Dwellers, Micro Brewers, Hempsters, Dread Rollers
But I don't think anything like this is going to happen any time soon.Last edited by ImTellinTim; 08-19-2009, 08:54 PM.Comment

Re: Expansion
I don't think there's much chance of Orlando at all. It's a small market for the Magic as it is, and it's way too close to Tampa Bay. Jacksonville's probably out too because Florida's long-standing baseball tradition really hasn't translated into Major League success.Comment

Re: Expansion
Portland!!!!! But here's the deal: we have the Triple-A Portland Beavers, minor league affiliate for the San Diego Padres. They've been here since 1906. We have a stadium (PGE Park) that seats 19,566. That facility is also used for soccer. The owner of the Beavers also owns the soccer team. He wants to bring a MLS soccer team here, but needs to renovate the stadium and make it a soccer-only venue. The Beavers now need to find a new home. Plans fell through to find another site in Portland and now they're looking at a suburban city in Oregon named Beaverton (I know, the Beaverton Beavers).
As some of you may know, Portland has one of the largest sports markets in the country but is without an MLB team. They tried to bring the Montreal Expos here in 2004 before they became the Washington Nationals but our stadium wasn't adequate. So right now, the fact that we can't secure a major league team, let alone keep the minor league team we do have, and no expansion is planned for awhile means that Portland will get pro baseball MAYBE by the time we're not dependent on foreign oil.
Oh, and move this to Pro Baseball forum.NOW PLAYING: Battlefield 3, MLB 12 The Show

Re: Expansion
Why would anyone mention a City in Florida? The 2 teams they have are struggling for fans!
They should go the way the NFL did and have 4 divisions, add 2 AL teams in Oklahoma & New Orleans and the Divisions would look like this:
American League
North:
Chicago
Minnesota
Detroit
Cleveland
South:
Texas
Tampa Bay
Oklahoma
New Orleans
East:
New York
Boston
Toronto
Baltimore
West:
Anaheim
Kansas City
Seattle
Oakland
National League
North:
Chicago
St.Louis
Cincinnati
Milwaukee
South:
Atlanta
Florida
Houston
Arizona
East:
New York
Philly
Washington
Pittsburgh
West:
Los Angeles
Colorado
San Fransisco
San DiegoLast edited by CubFan23; 08-21-2009, 05:06 PM.Playstation Network:That70s_Gamer
