If this guy can get his 1st inning control under wraps, I think we may get the pre Tommy John Volquez back soon!!!

Edison Volquez
Is it just me, or is he the worst 1st inning pitcher since Harang, and then in the 2nd he turns into Jose Rijo and becomes untouchable???

Re: Edison Volquez
No, in years past he has been very solid in all innings, he is just struggling this year spotting his breaking balls especially, which in turn is leading to walks and also forcing him to throw very hittable fastballs with runners on when he's down in the count.Comment

Re: Edison Volquez
I was thinking the same thing. I haven't been able to see him pitch yet this season, but I assume he's struggling with control..? I know he has always relied on swings and misses, and it seems like over the past year or so, teams have gone in with the approach of making him throw strikes.
but of course, pre-Tommy John Volquez would be great, but I wouldn't even mind seeing the Volquez from September of last season. When he was, what? 4-1 with a sub 2 ERA?

Re: Edison Volquez
He walked 5 the other day I believe, most in the first 2 innings. They also say it takes 2 years to come completely come back from Tommy John, and we are a few months from that! I have no doubt he will get right, and getting a healthy Cueto and Bailey back will definitely bolster the rotation. Though with the way Leake, LeCure, and Wood pitched, we are going to have some decisions to make as far as the rotation and 25 man roster!I was thinking the same thing. Yeah, I believe Volquez will get things worked out, hoefully soon. Personally I think Cueto to take Lecure's place in the rotation and put Bailey in the pen. Atleast to start off with. Wood and Leake I think both deserve to be in the Majors. IMO they are not bullpen guys with the way they throw. Bailey however I feel could be very successfull in relief. He walked 5 the other day I believe, most in the first 2 innings. His first innings do suck. Over .800 OPS allowed and an ERA of five and a half.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Maybe if he didn't wear his hat like a freakin' moron, he'd be able to pitch better.
Well, that wouldn't really help, but at least he wouldn't look like a jackass.Comment
