After watching the Giants defeat the Reds in Game 5, after the game it appeared as if the Giants had won the World Series by the way they celebrated in their locker room. I'm an Angels fan, and I remember a few years ago the Angels did this exact same thing when they won the division in early September, only to lose to the Red Sox in the DS.

I could somewhat understand had the Giants been celebrating the fact that they've come back from a 2-0 deficit, winning 3 in Cincinnati, but I'm 1000% sure, all the DS winners will celebrate.

My question is do baseball teams overdo DS and LCS series wins? You play to win the World Series, not the first round. In the NBA, you don't see teams celebrate with champagne and what not after the second round... In the NFL, teams don't celebrate after a Wild Card victory. I would think a team like the Yankees definitely wouldn't celebrate if they win tonight, being that the bigger picture is still out there...

Does baseball overdo it?

Not at all.

It's a long season. Anytime you can move onto another round, this one being to the round of four I have no problem with teams celebrating.

They all know the end goal but to advance to the Championship Series is something to celebrate.

But if the celebration didn't happen, we would've never gotten the gem from Tim Lincecum. After he got sprayed in the eye with some champagne, he said "now I know what chicks feel like".

But if the celebration didn't happen, we would've never gotten the gem from Tim Lincecum. After he got sprayed in the eye with some champagne, he said "now I know what chicks feel like".

When debating with myself the pros and cons about this subject, this is the argument I used for why teams celebrate. I feel as though, I'm from the old school lol, I hate when people celebrate when they've done something outside of winning a championship, like how football players celebrate first downs but 3 plays later drop a TD.

I think last night that also came up about Valverde and his post-save celebration antics, and I think there was a tweet floating around speaking about he just blew the save why doesn't he celebrate now.

To keep it on topic, after the game I was watching Buster Posey and how humble he was acting on the field, it gave me the impression he knew although they won the series, there's still a long road. Maybe it's jealousy, or my being arrogant, but if the Giants lose next round, although not the case, to me it seems this celebration was all-for-nothing.

I agree with NYJets though, no right or wrong lol. Guess its personal preference lol.

I don't see a problem with it. The Giants battled hard for this and they pulled out a great win to go for the pennant.

Much of this team just won the World Series 2 seasons ago. They know there's plenty left. Of those that weren't on the 2010 team I believe for many this was their first playoff series. Then adding in the fashion they won with the 0-2 comeback and game 5 itself being rather intense,well it's fine to celebrate like that.

Anyway, I do find it odd when guys celebrate a round win rather than a championship, but it doesn't affect me. They should be happy to advance.

LCS - Craft beer from the team's city
World Series - Champagne

This is true.

In the NHL, it has gotten to the point where the teams won't even touch the "Prince of Wales Trophy" (given to the winner of the Eastern Conference playoffs) or "Clarence Campbell Trophy" (given to the winner of the Western Conference playoffs). The only trophy the teams will touch is the "Stanley Cup". Touching the respective conference championship trophies is thought of as "Bad Luck" towards winning the big one.

I don't mind the immediate celebrating, but the champagne showers are a bit overboard I think. At that point it's not a spur of the moment "Hell yeah we're advancing!" situation but a prefabricated celebration.

Not saying it's wrong, just not for me.

If it were up to me, champagne would be reserved for an LCS win and a World Series win.
