    Milestone: Hoffman

By converting his 391st save of his career (39th this season), Trevor Hoffman of the San Diego Padres moved into a tie for third place on the all-time saves list with HOF Dennis Eckersley.

Is this a quiz question? Of course that would be third place.

Congrats to Hoffman. He's always been one of my favorite closers. Always had one of the best changeups in the game. The first thing that comes to mind when thinking of Hoffman - "Hells Bells".

I don't know if you've ever seen Hoffman come into Hell's Bells live when there is 40,000 people in the stands, but it is one of the best scenes I have ever experienced in sports.

The only way I can explain it would be to compare it to Rick Vaughn coming out to "Wild Thing" in the movie Major League. There is that much electricity in the air.

Unfortunately I've never seen it live, just on TV. I can only imagine how electric the crowd would get. Heck, the scene in Major League with Rick Vaughn gave me goosebumps.

                    Re: Milestone: Hoffman

I remember the first time I heard that, the place went nuts. I believe there was 40,000 something people at Qualcomm at that game (sadly it was one of the rare times I actually heard the crowd get into it all season). I haven't been to one at Petco yet.

Oh yeah, one more thing. Hoffman for Comeback Player of the Year.

                        Here comes another great debate.

I'm a Padre fan through and through, but the Comeback Player of the Year is going to be extremely tough:

                        Trevor Hoffman '03 - 9 Games, 2.00 ERA, 0 Saves
                        Trevor Hoffman '04 - 52 Games, 2.50 ERA, 39 Saves,

                        Jaret Wright '03 - 2-5 W/L, 56.3 IP, 2 Saves, 7.35 ERA
                        Jaret Wright '04 - 15-7 W/L, 176 IP, 3.34 ERA
